Blade 16x19 V7 with more free power and spin?

25-TENNIS

Semi-Pro
I'm demoing a Blade 16x19 V7, but I want a bit more easy power, since I'm putting too much strain on my forearm trying to get enough power. Also, I have a spinny game and with the Blade I've to hit flat to get the full potential out of it.
So, which rackets offer more free power and spin, but have the same feel and stability?

It looks like you have already tried a number of racquets. I just gave you the run down between the Blade v7 98 16 x 19 and the Prince Phantom 100X 305.

If you are putting strain on your forearm, IMO I would be looking at your technique. To use the Blade v7 98 16 x 19, you need to be a fairly experienced player. I would look at the Clash series if you are looking for easier power.

have a look at frames:
- thicker frame
- higher RA number

but beware that at least on this forum, many users connect higher RA number with pain in the wrist, elbow and shoulder.
And I am not a doctor to tell you whether it stands true or not.

If you're looking for more free spin and power but a semi comfortable frame, maybe extreme mp (or maybe wait for the new one coming out in July) or maybe an e-zone
I'm demoing the Ezone too. Tried the 100, but it has too much power. I do really like the Ezone 98; good power level, good spin, decent control, good comfort. But the I miss some stability and plow (can be fixed with lead) and it doesn't have the nice solid feel of the Blade.

You might consider a demo of the Clash 98. Good spin and a little better power than the Blade 16x19. In comparison to more powerful racquets the Clash 98 can get the same spin if not more than the Pure Aero, but has a little less power than the PA.

Those sticks seem to have the power and spin I'm looking for, but they don't have the comfort I need (too much vibrations).
I got more spin with the prestige mid than with the clash 98, spin and precision
You could try the tf40 too, it does everything quite well

u could try using a more powerful string setup and/or strung lower for more comfort
VCT 16g mains/ revolve 17g crosses at low 40s sounds about right

I demoed the Blade, Pure Strike, Gravity, and a couple of the Technifibre racquets.

I really liked the Blade and Pure Strike - found the PS to be more powered and went with that. It does feel a bit more stiff between the two, but I haven't sensed any discomfort thus far (and haven't really ever had issues). Gravity was a bit too underpowered. The Tecnifibre racquests were pretty good, but preferred the Blade and PS over them both.

I think Blade is not a good racquet to use if you use your forearm a lot. Try a more head-light TT310 or if you prefer a 98inch head size, try the Beast 98 or the O3 version of it. I can see that an Ezone 98 could fit the bill as well, but if you liked the plush feel of the Blade, I would steer you more towards prince racquets.

Demoing the Clash 98 and can't stand the 24mm thickness. On forehands its OK but on the one hander no plow. Next week the Bladesv7 arrive, hopefully they are a bit more powerful and stable than the vcore 95s and offer similar control.

The Blade v7 line is really good but if you are looking for a user friendly racquet, I would look at the Prince Phantom 100X 305. Definitely easier spin, about the same power as the Blade and easy racquet head speed with forgiveness. IMO the 100x 305 is one of the best racquets of the year.

100sq inch head i rather avoid... 98 tops. Lets see the blades, as long as they are soft and comfortable similar to the vcore 95 and offer a bit more power and similar control with added stability I'll be more than happy.

I hear you. The Blade v7 98 is soft but has a fairly small sweet spot. It is all a matter of preference. I really like the Blade v7 98 16 x 19 but need something a bit less demanding and forgiving for competitive play.

Trust me, pro staff 97 non-CV is probably the best for you!! It definitely plays very comfortable for 66ra. It has nice power and control, plus some very good feel.

Or you can wait for the new pro staff to be released?
Talking about the new pro staffs, when is Wilson releasing them?

Depends on how you define power. Some people here say the blade is low powered, but I disagree. I hit my biggest shots with it. I think swingweight equals plow power though. The blade can plow the ball.

So there is plow power and there is free power that you get with a clash or similar style frame. I prefer the former. With the blade i can hit at 70% effort from the baseline and still deliver heavy shots. Saves a lot of energy out there IMO.

Everyone is different though.

For a thin beam racquet, the Blade v7 98 line packs some power, however compared to some the Babolat frames out there it's definitely on the lower power side IMO. I can generate good racquet head speed but you need to hit a few balls with the Blade to open up the court. At least for me, I am not cracking a winner until I hit at least 2-3 solid shots from the baseline. The feel of the Blade is one of best IMO. When I get a little tired, lose precision on my foot work and strokes. The Blade is a good serving racquet but it doesn't give you anything for free. At 53 for competitive play in warm temperatures I need a little more forgiveness and something that is a bit more user friendly. Prince has really done some magic with the Phantom line, especially the 100x 305 IMO. The Blades will stay in the bag.

Right but free power is babolat and plow power is the blade. I can open up the court with one shot from the blade. It suits my attacking style better. The power combined with control is fantastic. Not for everybody but for me i prefer plow over free power in frames. It gives me more confidence.

What sucks are frames with neither where it feels like i have to swing super hard to get the ball to do anything. Example - 6.1 pro staff 95 , old prince exo 100 and dunlop 300 aerogel.

Plow power is what I like, or at least what I'm used to. You lead the blade?

I agree with you about about having the mass of the racquet to supply the power so you get better feel and confidence. The 100x 305 is still a player's frame and you need swing moderately hard to get depth on your strokes. It is a 100 sq inch frame so the sweet spot will be larger and you don't need to be as precise as with the Blade. Like you said it all comes to personal preference. I am not playing as much as did years ago so a more forgiving racquet goes a long way.

No I play it stock. The swingweight is 335, so that really works for me. I like the racquet head speed I can generate with the low static weight (330 full poly strung with an overgrip).

I may look into technique. The blade is a really hard hitting racquet. The high swing weight and light weight make it easy to swing and it crushes the ball.

What racket were you using before and what is the string setup on the v7? I switched from a leaded Yonex DR98 (11.8oz) to a v7 because I was looking for a little more power. The v7 also gave me a slightly better feel than the DR98.

I agree with you though that the v7 is not the spinniest racket. Personally, I think it pockets the ball a little too much and the ball ends up being launched sometimes. I had to increase the string tension on the v7. Normally, I string my rackets in the mid to high 40's, but currently have the v7's on low 50's using full poly (17g). I still get more power than my leaded DR98 vs stock v7's (other than switching to Babolat Skinfeels).

Well, first I thought I got the arm pain because I had to swing to hard with the Blade to get the shot speed I want. Since I didn't have arm pain with the Ezone, I thought the Blade didn't have enough power. But, since a few days, my arm did hurt also when playing with the Ezone. So, I think the string (Signum Pro Tornado 1.29) is the cause of this. My technique is quite good (not perfect) and I don't think this causes the pain. But, the Blade just doesn't really suit my game, I can't hit with enough spin to generate heavy balls.

I was using a Yonex DR Lite (leaded up to ±300g). The Blade V7 is strung with Signum Pro Tornado 1.29, don't know the tension because it's a demo and I didn't string it.
I've never played the DR98. I did play with a ex-demo Ai98, but don't really like it.

What I noticed on the v7 is that the sweet spot tends to be more towards the center of the racket. The sweet spot can feel smaller if you tend to hit the ball slightly above center (more towards 12 o'clock). If I "mishit" a ball more in the center of the v7, the ball comes off hot.

Sounds like you could probably benefit from a racket with higher static weight and more HL racket than the v7. When I first went from my leaded DR98 (11.8oz/7HL) to a stock v7, my arm felt tired. I'm guessing it took a little more effort to whip the racket head around. Got used to it after a week or two.

Good luck in your search! I guess it's part of the fun playing tennis. :)

IMO the sweet is higher in the hoop but is rather small. I have heard from other Blade users that the control can be erratic. Occasionally, I see a ball fly really long for no apparent reason. The control is still quite good but a demanding racquet to use. I have played with the 100X 305 which is a more user friendly racquet. I may make the switch back.

+1 for the Phantom 100x for a more user friendly racquet than the Blade V7. For me, Clash 98 was even better because, yep, I've a 2HBH. Clash was all the blade gave me but with better spin, some more power but less (sooooo goood) sensations (of the blade). So, I consider, buy and adopted the Clash 98 and don't regret it @ all.
In your case, with the 1HBH : may the phantom be with you ! It could be the answer.

The Phantom 100X 305 is a very versatile frame and definitely helping hitting a more solid OHB with much easier topspin. I have heard good things about the Clash 98 but I didn't like the feel when I tried along with the thick beam. Technology has come a long with tennis racquets. Looking forward to receiving the 100x 305.

I totally get that. It's not known for being a spin monster frame or anything.

More power and spin than a blade v7 16x19? Should try the Yonex Vcore Pro 97 310g (the latest green one). Tried both side by side and on cold, wet conditions as well as hot ones. The Yonex definitely had more of both. Much better to volley with too as it’s more headlight and has a more even string bed. There’s also a 100” version which has more spin but similar otherwise to the 97.

Blade 104 V7
Great feel. Massive sweet spot. Thin beam.
great power on tap. Just needs to be brought up to mid eleven oz with lead. And voila. There’s your nlade 16x19 bit with t he properties you asked for

Lol agree with @Power Player

Lol at ppl saying blade has no power. Almost all the juniors here use it and they would hit winners against you left and right .

I've also tested it and it has alot of power you can hit heavy you can hit through the court.

Learn how to properly hit the ball.

Those easy power racquets u talk about are like trampolines you have no control with those but I suppose ur right that you can get more power if ur only using ur arm to swing lol.

I had exactly the same problem as you.

I purchased the Blade 100L, which is way under spec, but treated it like a pro stock frame.
I got the idea off Tennisnerd.

Can’t remember exactly, but I added a shrink sleeve to bring it up a grip size, added somewhere around 10g of bluetac in the handle and added an over grip.

On the hoop, I added lead at 9,3 and12. I removed the grommets and placed the lead underneath them to conceal it (I know my specs so I was able to figure out how much weight to add using the TW customisation tools).

Anyway, I have got it to 335g, 330sw and 32 balance. Plus, I’ve got a ton of room to play around with other customisations.

Spin and power are better than the blade 98 and it plays much better for me. It doesn’t have that same buttery feel but it plays a lot more comfortable than the 69RA suggests. I have a sensitive arm and have absolutely no trouble at all using full poly with this.
I was so happy with it that I’ve bought another and these are my main rackets.

Agree with all of what you wrote.
This morning I took the Clash 98, the Blade V7 18x20 and of course my usual Blade V7 16x19. All are strung exactly the same, I hit fine with the first two, but my original 16x19 racquets were more powerful out of the three for me (meaning, serves hitting the back fence 3’ up with the usual thump sound).
I will stick with the Blade V7 16x19.

Extreme Tour

I returned the demo of the Blade and got the Prince TT310 (someone recommended it above) and the Pro Staff 97. Unfortunately, the TT310 doesn't play as I expected. After reading the reviews I thought it is an all-round frame with a good balance of power and control, but I found it to have a lot more power than control, so a lot balls are landing long.

The Pro Staff plays better, but I have to play a bit more with it to know if it is better than the Ezone 98. So far, I think it doesn't have enough power to get great depth.

I'm surely getting a demo of the Vcore Pro 100 next week, which might be the racket I'm looking for. I would also love to try the Ezone 98 Tour, but I'll have to wait at least three weeks.
