I got a V8 US Open and Chameleon and strung them up with Hyper G/Ghostwire (18g) and ALU Power (18g) respectively with a Wilson Pro OG. Here's some strung up weights + SW (using the Briffidi SW1)

US Open -325.5g / 327 SW
Chameleon - 322.8 / 315 SW

I need to measure the balance but will need to get my hands on a balance board or make one over the weekend.

Both hit very nicely (I also measured my V7with Nat Gut/Poly and that was 334SW, no wonder that one was a club to swing around). The SW differences with my V8s are noticeable though, but anything under 330 is fairly quick to swing around.

Got a hit in this evening with the 18m. I don’t have an RDC, but balance and weight were right on spec.

I strung it with RPM rough and Wilson SynGut at 52/54 and also added a Fairway leather grip.

It was an excellent experience for me. I found that compared to the v7 18m that it had a much crisper and responsive feel. The slight (expected) drop in swingweight was a welcome change for me as it made it more maneuverable and I didn’t find and loss in power. My ground strokes still easily penetrated the court on rally balls and I was easily able to access the put away power when I wanted it. At net it was much easier to get around then the v7. Only stroke I didn’t hit was serves.

If I was to make this my daily hitter, I’d likely add a few grams in the handle to get it a bit more headlight as that is my preference, otherwise, at least for my game, Wilson did quite well.

So I'll be looking for it to hit the Buy Sell Trade next week then :) PM me first!

I've just received my V8 demos 16X19 and 18X20. Hitted 1 hour with a ball machine and some serves, so it is to early for a complete review/verdict, but there are a few things I can already say : 1/ they both provide excellent maneuverability (a lot more maneveurable than what I experienced with the V7), 2/ I love the feel at impact, there is something special in a good way, 3/ the spin generation with the 18X20 is better than expected (my kick serves kicked like crazy), 5/ as usual with the 16X19 version the launch angle can go wild and control can sometimes feel erratic, and it is probably exagerated by the high maneuverability.

I have the impression that it is a clear improvement from the V7, and might be a candidate for one of the best iteration in the Blade family, but it has to be comfirmed in actual match play.

plastic ~2g placard ~15g

And there I thought I’m the only one with OCD bad enough to weight placards! The placards generally weigh between 15 to 17 grams depending on the brand, regardless of placard shape. The logical conclusion is that this was by design, to give a better feel of the overall weight and balance of a brand new, unstrung frame for customers holding up the racquet in a store.

Got my v8 blade pro. With plastic on grip and placard it’s 321g. Is this too far off and should I send back? Thanks!

It’s within spec. Get it strung up pronto, give it a bash and report back ASAP, please!

Hey man,
What did you think of v8 18m? I saw your brief review on tennisnerd. What would you say main differences vs v7. It seems lower SW is definitely significant difference but can't imagine performance is same in all aspects but just lower in SW.

My first few outings has been postive so far...
Serves are very consistent.. forehands come really big with the V8.. my backhand still needs work with it..I do like the whippiness of it compared to other gens..
-have you had a chance to compare the v7 to the v8 models??

It feels a tad stiffer, a bit easier to use, at least for me.
The sw on the v7 18m I was using had around 333 strung sw and this one has 324.6 strung sw. I also like the 18m far better then 16m. It’s more predictable and way more control but it still has very good spin for a 18m frame

does the v8 still swing like previous version blades even with the lower sw? i always found the blades to swing a little sluggish regardless of sw and assumed it was how the weight was distributed within the frame. i've tried 2015 blades that were 291 sw unstrung and still found them to swing a bit sluggish. it wasn't necessarily a balance issue either because i've tried that same blade with leather grip and lead in the handle, and it didn't seem to make much of a difference.

I must say it feels like the V8 swings faster in some way. I am looking at some videos I recorded for the tennisnerd review (will be uploaded tomorrow I think) and I don’t strike the ball so late as I tend to do with some previous blade-versions. It feels the same way in the swing as the k-blade did. That’s the frame I’ve played my best tennis with but it killed my elbow so I could not use it.

Interesting.. my 2015 blade was also very sluggish even for being 8 grams under spec. Might be the combination of high SW and high TW and not so HL balance. It definitely learned me I should demo a blade first..

The intrinsic weight distribution in a racquet does not change, even if weight is added to the handle to bring the balance point closer to the handle. Imagine a 1/4 oz blob of BluTack stuck to the tip of a racquet. Counterbalancing with buttcap weight doesn’t change the fact that one still has to swing that extra 1/4oz at 23 inches away from the hand.

Hence, a sluggish racquet will just about always feel sluggish, no matter how much weight one adds to the handle.

I much prefer the V8...I was never a fan of V7..
V8 provides more power for sure.
-as far as the feel, is the v7 about the same as the v8??
-its been a few years since ive used the v7, but i think that the v8 frame have a clean/quiet feel to them
-im trying to recall if the v7s also had this!?, ill need to search TW-posts ,(a couple years back) for my posts on the v7s

-i think the extra pop and stiffness is coming from the "45" tech they put at the 12oclock possition

ok so we have a bunch of these in now where I help out with stringing on weekends. I strung up a bunch of both 16m and 18m. I personally play with the 18m so I chose one out of the bunch to try out. I checked the specs and miraculously this one came out pretty close to spec.

18x20 unstrung
static weight= 306
swingweight = 295
balance= 7pts HL

18x20 strung (mains=wilson nxt comfort 16g. cross= rpm blast 17g
with dampner)
static weight= 328
swing weight= 328
balance= 4pts HL
(I think the dampner only added around 2 on Swingweight)
I will try it out on the court tomorrow and probably try out lead tape in handle and at 3 and 9 after i try stock set up also. My current personal v7 setup has a Swingweight of 343, static weight 344 with 6pts HL

How does the v7 and v8 butt caps compare size wise?

So the new v8 is stiffer/more powerful despite a lower RA?

Depends on what your specs come out to. My v8 demo felt lighter than my v7, and had less pop and stability. I’m suspecting it was the swingweight. Nice frame, but not an upgrade from the v7 imo, except the badass cosmetic.

For those interested i made the right questions (cause i am a loyal blader) to the Italian reviewer and here is what he answered. Very interested info…. i believe lower SW will change everything

Grande Fabio amazing reviews as always. The only time i totally disagreed with you was on VCore98 latest review. It’s one of the most solid racquets out there but Yonex has to produce a connected racquet since DR…. I was totally disconnected with VC98….. no feel at all. I couldn’t even stay on rallies……

Let’s get to the BLADE now. I am a blader for life. Still rocking my Blade V5 2015 98S with 4G. So my main question to you is:

1) After the low powered and difficult to swing V7 has the instant free power of Blades like V3/V4/V5/V6 returned ????

2) Can you compare V8s feel to V5 ? V5 was plush but not so plush like V7 and it has direct power….. even free power to defend and return balls under pressure. Is the feel sth new in blades line ? Can we finally crush balls again without being heavy lifters ??? And does it have still a little bit of plushness…. I want the ball to still lag a little bit on the strings not 100% direct and harsh like pro staffs if you know what i mean.

3) Some users have also reported great slice and kick free juice on serves too.

4)I hope the launch angle of 16×19 to be greater than V7s which played like 18×20.

5)Did you felt and pain on the wrist/elbow ?

6)I know from your reviews that you like 4G soft but still 4G has better connected feel

7)Is the 16×19 more solid than V7 so not to bother to try the new 18×20 ? I had more stability on the head of V7 18×20 compared to 16×19.

Hi man, you’re right, because the feel is only thing that maybe not fits the same way for everyone. So, even if i’m good at describing it, someone could find it different.
Let’s give you answers point by point:
1) Yes, it’s definitely a come back, even if the stick is a littler faster through the air.
2) Yes, Blade 98 is something more related to v3 and v5, just a little plush, not at all, but that crisp feel is something that blade has ever had.
3) Me too, but the slower you move it, the most you feel the ball going quickly away, so swing it a little more to maintain the right control on the ball.
4) The launch angle is absolutely higher, even in 18×20 v8 version.
5) No, definitely no! I watched some video on youtube talking about that, but i have different idea and we talk about a 65 ra, not a 69. If many people like softer sticks it doesn’t mean that a crisper one should be a bad choice for the arm. Don’t string it over 23 kg with a stiff mono, because it makes no sense.. it’s the only way to feel the new blade bad. Has been 3 years that Wilson is enjoying lower tension on his sticks, maybe good to listen to the advice and string it properly.
6) For Blade V8 16×19, i prefer 4G at 21/21 kg. 4G soft maybe more useful if you don’t like the feel at lower tension, and you can string it at 23/22 or 22/22 without going on a too stiff way.
7) v8 18×20 review is dropping on septembr the 8th, but later on, today, i will post a flash review (in Italian) on my Youtube channel. I do not really like video-reviews because they can change the sense depending on the feel of the day, but there i a lot of lazy people that don’t want to read at all .. and i try to reach them too. Even fot the 18×20 version, the sw is lower than usual.. and, even if the ra is the same, they play a lot different. Be patient, I’ll explain it better in the review.

Seems Fabio's 16s are 325sw and 65 Ra which is at odds with all the other info. I mean that's a lot of Ra variation for the same stick. At that RA and SW, i understand that racket is more powerful and balls leave the stringbed more immediately. I think one thing for sure there will be less pocketing and more zip. To me it does point to the bruiser characteristics of BP with more manageable SW. I think another interesting review point was control is accessible when you commit to your swings more. Tentative swings may launch a bit. I did notice the same with BP.

Had a quick hit with the v8 16x19. It still has plenty of flex and feel like the v7, but they crisped it up just enough in my opinion. The v7 was too noodle-like in the 16 main version for me, and this one is just right. The sweetspot has a direct feeling where the ball enters and exits in a perfect way: I feel like I know what's happening at contact, but it's not staying so long that it feels vague and pillowy. The only issue I had was feeling like I needed more weight behind the ball on some shots, but that's from the 320 swingweight on mine. I'm used to 335+ ranges.

Mine was right on spec with TW/advertised measurements, though: 305g, 32cm balance, 290 swingweight, and 64 RA unstrung (61 strung). Not enough to get me away from my current sticks but quite nice for many. Mine is heading to the classifieds for any interested!

v8 has that rubbery flex feel you mention..

I like low RA frames. But the V7 was like artificial rubbery flexy feel. Not sure what they did to it based on construction and materials. It's like the clash, something was gimmicky about it albeit a great racquet for the masses. Guess they carried on with it in the V8?

I hit with the v8 18m and my beefed up v7 today. the v8 doesn't have as much of that noodle flex like the v7. the v7 does feel slighty softer where as v8 is more direct as people say. The interesting thing to me was that i had to lead up my v7 because it would get pushed around sometimes on volleys and such. The v8 is more stable and in stock form felt as solid as my leaded up v7. the v8 doesn't flex as much but still gives that great feel just not as soft as the v7. I also noticed less vibration in handle. Most of theses things are slight but if you already are avid v7 user you will notice the differences. tomorrow i will lead up the v8 a little and see what it does. So far I like the newer version and will be curious about the bp v8 when it comes out. i also noticed that the v8 doesn't have as much of that club like feel either.

also the green color does come out a lot more on court especially later in day at sunset :).

Bought tabs hit with the USOpen edition v8 today. I saw and held the chameleon v8 green at USO and can say that the paint is glossy… the USO versuoystul has the velvet finish which imynot a fan of. I never hit with the v7 version… only tried and played the v6 countervail and did not like… no power, feel, or spin.

Hit with and owned Blade Pro 16x19 which to me felt like a modern day ProStaff 6.0 95.

I have to say the v8might be the best feeling frame I’ve ever hit with. Weird and beautiful combo of dampened feel yet transmits just want you want in feedback without it being too buzzy or in a way that feels harsh. Very communicative and translates very well (at least to me). I just hit against a wall and on a ball machine, but nice power, very good access to spin. Mine weighed 308g unstrung, 328g strung with 6pt HL balance with OG. Strung with HyperG 17ga at 50lbs.

Seems to match power of my Speed Pro 360+, definitely has more spin and spin comes a lot easier. Racquet felt pretty stable for weight and SW. Haven’t measured SW but I’d guess about 324. I can really generate wicked spin and some nice pace. To me it seems to generate a very predictable shot whether flat or heavy spin… that’s high praise IMO.
I’m playing a match tomorrow so rubber will hit the road. There is room to add lead. In stock form it might require some RHS in defensive situations but we will see.

Doesn’t have the plow of my Speed Pro but I the easier swing weight seemed to allow for enough rhs to get same depth. We will see what my opponents say about heaviness of shot but by my eye they look similar… blade being more spin while Speed is slightly flatter.

I felt I played best with the 100L customized to about 310 grams unstrung and a strung SW of 326, but all my opponents said I hit a heavier, faster ball with the 98 18/20. I could hit "through" the ball better without it sailing long. So for now I will focus on the 18/20 version.
