James is 5-0 against Nikolay but is only a slight favorite in this match. I haven't seen Davydenko all week because none of his matches have been televised. Can Nikolay finally beat James? Blake didn't look very good against Querrey while Davydenko has yet to drop a set in this tourney.

actually I saw Davy against Berdych, who is now 0-6 against Davy. Davydenko really played well and Berdych couldn't handle Davydenko's shots at all. I think Berdych got jammed pretty good in their match.

I haven't seen Blake play this week though, but if Davydenko played like he did against Berdych then I think he may win against Blake.

My guess is in three sets though.

His performance against Berdych is nothing compared to the brilliant way he played against Ferrer. He didnt give Ferrer any chances and started both sets by leading 4 - 0.
While shaking hands, Ferrer was so pissed off he didnt even smile back to Nikolay.

I like both players, but i prefer Nikolay and i think he's capable of defeating Blake who's tennis was less than stellar in his previous matches in this tournament, if it wasnt for the supporting crowds, he wouldnt have come this far.

Im going with my boy James here. When James is on, his groundies and shot making are there with Federer and nadal, problem is he's streaky. If he gets in the zone tonight, I say james in 2 routine sets 4 and 3. Im also convinced that Davydenko while solid, is no threat whatsoever to federer on any surface no matter what form he is in. James on the other hand, has proven he can push federer when he's playing well. So for that reason alone, I hope James makes it through to the final. Id love to see a Federer vs Blake final. however Blake vs Hewitt would be okay too!

oh wow, I didn't get to see that match against Ferrer. Hope today's match will be a good one.

It was intersting to here that Blake has a 5-0 head to head vs Davydenko. I'm picking Blake to win this win in straights or at the least 3.

Bwah!? Less than stellar? Blake's dismantling of Ferrero was some of the best tennis I've seen him play in a long while. Even during the latter stages of the Querrey match, he was on fire. You can't really credit the crowd on that one, since many were actually cheering for Sam.

If you think Blake's been off, then you simply haven't been watching him play.

I agree. You'd think Davydenko would win this. But Blake coming in with 5-0 against Davy and playing absloutely great it will be difficult for Davydenko. On top of it Blake will have one of the bigest factors. Zero percent support for the Russian. Most of everyone will be behind Blake in this match.

Blake in straights or Davy in 3. Since Blake gets so hard on himself when he loses a set.

Yeah, like he did against Querrey...

These are two underachieving chokers, who surprisingly have been playing at a very high level for most of the tournament. I'll take Blake in three.

Really want Blake to win this, i think Federer will always beat Davydenko, maybe Blake as well but it will be a better final with Blake as the crowd will be more involved and would hopefully make him play better.

That's pretty much my intentions, too. I can't really pick between Davy or Blake in terms of favoritism (well, maybe Blake since he's a fellow American), but I think James would make for a better match against Federer.

Davy is an excellent player, but Blake is just more entertaining on the court, plays with more excitement and emotion, and the crowd will surely be rowdy. He's even got that puncher's chance against Fed.

Davydenko has more chance against Federer. Blake's game is the perfect game to help groove Federer and can get timing together. Plus Blake is petrified of Federer, Davydenko is not.

i couldn't disagree more. Davy has zero chance and even less belief; Blake knows he can win.

I think Blake is an easier oppoent that Davydenko for Federer. Blake makes more errors then Davydenko (he is more steadier than Blake). But as of right now Blake is playing great and has lot's of confidence. If Blake gets through this (which it it looks like he will) who knows what can happen in the final. Blake could make it a very good final.

What on earth do makes you think Blake knows he can win against Federer. He gets beaten up almost every time they play, and the rare times he has any chances he caves. The only match he was sort of "in" with Federer was the U.S Open last year when Federer was having trouble closing out sets. Blake is petrified of Federer, you can tell by the way he gushes over him.

Davydenko came out against Federer at the French Open this year, and the Australian Open last year, much more assertively then Blake ever will against Federer. Davydenko has far more belief and hunger vs Federer then Blake.

The way I see it, I'd go with Blake's risk/reward game over Davydenko's steady game.

No matter how consistent Davydenko plays, I still can't see that being enough to surmount Federer. Blake, on the other hand, might actually stand a chance if he has one of those "can't miss" nights...especially with the crowd on his side. Like I said earlier, Blake has a puncher's chance. If he's on fire, like he has been at times during this tournament, he can handle a struggling Fed...however, it's just as likely Blake has one of his "off-nights" and misses everything in sight, and starts aiming for the fences with his returns.

Look at the head to head for blake. 0-6 for him. All the matches but one is straight sets. He has even beaten him here in Cincy back in 2005. But the more crowd support the better for Blake (US open went to 4 sets).

All very true. Like you said Blakes heavy hitting, high risk game can unsettle Federer. And Federer hasn't been playing the best of tennis. Good point

But in the end I think federer will be to tough and steady and be able to take Blake in 3 sets

5-2 Blake!!!!!

Federer eats power players for breakfast with a side of swiss cheese - there is no way Blake would have even a theoretical chance against Fed in a final.

Fed has trouble with super consistent aggressive baseliners like Canas who an frustrate him by getting eveything back.

Some really good hitting in this match.

What a match point. Blake was feeling it there. It's nice to see Blake playing well and send Davy packing. Blake has really been playing well. Even though he is 0-6 vs Federer (not looking good on paper) he has been playing great and Federer hasn't so much. But iwht a full tank of confidence and a crowd behind him Blake could make it an intersting final. Who knows? Blake just needs to foreget about his horrible recod against Federer.

Davydenko is 0-9 against Federer.

yes

Davy hit a decent serve to get in control of the point, Blake blocked it back short, Davy hit a topspin forehand approach shot into the deep corner on the forehand side of Blake's court

Blake sprint to his right, stretched out fully, and SLAPPED - yes SLAPPED - a lighting fast crosscourt passing shot out of range of Davy but well inside the sideline

let's just say that SportsCenter might show the shot

you know that when SportsCenter - which hates tennis - shows a shot, it's gotta be amazing

But Davydenko has played more tighter matches than Blake against Federer

I dont think that particularly matters though. Neither of them have won against him. Blake's game however I think could throw federer off, if James gets in the zone. Davydenko's game is pretty much the same all the time, and even at his best, is not on par with Fed. When James is at his best, I think he is on a Federer like level and will be able to give Roger a heck of a challenge tomorrow.

The time is NOW JAMES! DO IT NOW!

Yes if Blake is in the zone. When he is not in the zone he is screwed. Once he is off his hinges he is done. Davydenko you know you have to beat, like Blake did today.

But I do agree with the fact that Blake can throw Federer espically with the way he is playing now.
