Blog - Former DI college player trying to go pro.

It's called "Pronation" and Pronation is a term you'll here a lot when higher-level tennis players discuss proper serve technique. Pronation is a special type of arm movement that allows you to accelerate your tennis racket through the ball, increasing the amount of power and spin you can generate. All advanced players pronate when they serve, but very few club-level players pronate properly.

Pronation, alone, does not fully describe the role of the wrist in a serve. The forearm pronates. The wrist releases and snaps downward after contact with the ball. For most, a continental or Eastern bh grip are essential for a full, relaxed wrist release on the serve.

That is what I always thought. I thought pronation is the only way to hit a flat serve with a continental grip.

Cool a wild card and free $360 minimum for the team. That would be sweet if they could pull the upset and pick up (at least) 15 dubs points.

Yeah, great job getting on the ranking list!! And taking out a guy inside top 700 with a very tough scoreline. That must have been a battle and am eagerly anticipating the blog covering it.

Next match appears to be winnable, based on rankings, and there is a huge jump between 1 point and 2.

Larrysummers, as you can see by the draw, the lowest direct entry into the Laos main draw was atp rank # 1421, which represents 1 point. So yes, it is possible for Andy to get main draw acceptance, at lower tier futures such as this with one point. However, if he wins his next match, that will open the door considerably to more main draws.

He's playing that Kittipong guy, the one who took Isner to a third set tie break in bangkok last year. Should be a good test for him

don't know how much or how quickly ITF updates rankings. probably have to wait til year end unless AG starts winning quite a bit. Kitti has a 543 ranking per published ITF stats.

ATP rankings get updated weekly at the end of each week except during grand slams. This is a $10K futures event. 2 points are awarded for quarterfinalists, 6 points for semifinalists: CLICK. At $15K futures events 3 points are awarded for quarterfinalists.

thanks. i read that earlier. imagine that AG will continue to play ITF tourneys and might pick up more points.

any info on where the 1300 ranking posted earlier by aphex is derived?

awesome for AG to be in Thailand. heard many good things about the country.

strange that AG posts his points aren't counted yet and missed the draw. yet the wins and losses are in the ITF database. are the points recorded elsewhere?

His points probably weren't in the itf system by the time of the tournament entry cut off

The itf site usually updates matches round by round, but the points dont count until the monday after the tournament finishes. The entry cut off for futures is usually on the friday before the tournament begins, qualifying sign in on the saturday

Looks like Andy debuted in the rankings this week at 1281. Unfortunately, he came in the rankings too late and was shut out of another qualifying draw in Thailand.

That stinks they only let him in 1 qualifying draw out of the three tournaments even though he ended up making it all the way to the quarterfinals of the tournament they did let him into. I thought futures were supposed to be a little bit of a "series". So if you make it far in one of the tournaments, you think the other tournaments in the series would know that and do what they can to get you into the other tournaments.
