BNP - Indian Wells 2020 - What do you want TW to cover?

Hi TT users!

TW is heading down to the desert for a week and half during the BNP in March. We will be shooting a lot of great content but we want to make sure we aren't missing anything! Is there anything you would like us to cover both on and off site?

Also, don't be a stranger! Please say hi if you see us, we love to chat!

Thanks,
TW Staff

A few years ago, CNN did a brief story on the actual venue, mainly focusing on the Main Stadium.

Many of us are based outside the USA. We would love to see more stuff about the venue itself - particularly areas of the venue that the public does not have easy access to.

Last year, you guys did a story with Bethanie play-testing tennis shoes. Would love to see interviews with some players discussing their footwear, their tennis shoes and their tennis socks. What do they look for in shoes and socks when on the court?

Best ways to get some of the hospitality packages and how to make it a week holiday there. Also any chance Ellison may push for IW to be a stand alone event with 1500 points which Djokovic intimated it should really be

How about meeting with the locals and see what impact does the tournament have on the community ?

Impact positive and non-intrusive is my observation. Boosts the economy but does not pressure local services. I am sensitive to such consequences but IW seems all good.

Do you have a source for Djokovic quote? Thanks

If possible, I think it would be fascinating to compare Miami and IW. Butcholz really pushed the idea of Key Biscayne as the fifth slam, and some of the press and others bought in to a degree. But that tournament never fulfilled that ambition, and slipped a bit and is now just a M1000 like all the rest. IW also touted itself as special, but never was foolish enough to declare itself the fifth Slam. IW only got better and more prestigious over the years, to where it has been the first among equals for many years now. Exploring how the two tournaments developed in parallel, why IW became the consensus top tournament, and this idea of it becoming a 1500 and sort of equal to WTF (which is practically is, in fact, anyway), would be very good use of TW time. It is an issue that ATP needs to look at and some coverage by your prestigious company might get officialdom to take this seriously.

Imho, there probably should be two or three 1500 Point events around the world. IW could be one of those.

But last thing we need is another Hard Court Major. So IW is out of the question as the 5th Major.

If anything, any 5th Major should be in Asia, it should be indoors, and it should be on a unique surface (eg. Carpet!)

Right you are. I just looked on Tennistv in the Classics section. He not only intimated, he said it flat out. Twice. 2016 IW awards ceremony.
I think other players have suggested the same as draw size is not far off a Slam and the whole atmosphere is slam like.

I wonder what percentage of players use matched rackets and at what point in their careers they started using matched rackets. Do they ever change the specs on their rackets for playing conditions, weather, or court surfaces? Do the players ever just add weight to increase SW or change balance until it just feels right?

How about if you sell cheap TW branded clear bags that meet the clear bag policy for IW ? I'm actually serious....

I like these ideas! I hope TW is able to make room for a lot of them.
All of these ideas are great agreed but I hoap @TW Staff asks the players if they are on TTW. I don't know how accessible the top players will be but as many as we can hear from it would be awesome.
And also if a player doesn't know about the forum ask them to check it out.

It puts a smile on my face imagining Roger, Rafa and Novak reading Octobrina's poasts and how they would react reading those.

Given how much hate each player gets on TTW, I’m not sure how good of an idea that would be.

BNP - Indian Wells 2020 - What do you want TW to cover?

Travel, lodging and ticket costs? :)
Great suggestion. Hard to see how this helps TW sell more gear, but like @thisiscrazy, I would love to see practical content on the best places to stay, and insight on visiting the event from TW staffers who have been going to IW for years.

Indian Wells is the one tournament I still haven't had a chance to get to, and I would love an insiders perspective on the best ways to stay at the event in a range of pricing tiers.

I should've prefaced my original post with "My". :):)

Insight on gear. Also cover some qualies and spotlight a few interesting stories if you can. Great idea by the way. Thanks!

The menu at NOBU SHUSHI--I've heard if you order $100 in shushi you can watch the matches from there--how long will they let you hang-out for $100?--Do they have salmon skin handrolls? Do they have cold unfiltered saki?

Stringing room, racket tech - trends, best/new practices or techniques, new tech. Things that are exclusive to insiders vs available to average joes.

Beyond player hitting sessions, would be interesting to see how players get ready - physio, diet, other prep work

Why not?--Enquiring minds want to know.--BTW, how many lbs. of air do you keep your basketball at?
For the enquiring minds, there is plenty of information regarding many Pro Players racquets specs out there on the net already. And in many cases, Pro players are not going to discuss their specs because it might give them a competitive advantage. The TW staff have probably got a lot better things to do with their time than spending it chasing phantoms.

Imho, most non-Pro players are better off focusing on their own games and equipment and coming up with their own specs. Using Rafa or Roger's equipment and specs isn't going to turn you into Rafa or Roger.

To answer your Basketball question ... regardless of the size of your balls ... when dropped from a specific height if they rebound off a timber floor to a pre-determined height there is enough air in them.

Stenciling technique, favorite brands of stencil ink, correct method of closure for plastic racket bags--rubber band or bag tie?
