LOL, Isner could potentially make a run to the SF. He has to beat JDP next, who's looked like absolute crap so far, and then he plays Nadal. With his serve and mental strength, he might just get lucky.

I can't believe those stupid ads during breaks. I really find them offensive and I am not at the stadium.

Have you been to a pro event in person before? ATP or WTA, etc - or any pro sport event? Every tennis event I've been to has ads during changeovers. That's what sponsors are for...

What's wrong with advertising during changeovers? Why wouldn't you?

Personally, it's not the ads themselves that I find offensive. It's that they seem so loud and harsh and brash and endless. Kind of like people describe us Americans when they're trying to be pejorative.

I mean, I live in NYC, and there's signage everywhere and things like Grapple in the Apple during the USO, and I don't feel as hammered by ads at that as I do listening to the announcers shouting during every single changeover here.

I don't know.. whenever I've been at tournys, they haven't bothered me. I think they come out louder on the streams than maybe they're at the stadiums. It's just part of all sporting events I go to, so it doesn't bother me.

And Chardy is keeping the French hope alive. Take the first set.

Chardy is playing really well. Another Frenchman to climb up the ranks?

They haven't shown one doubles match yet. I thought maybe Fox Sports might in between sets. We'll see.

Nope, no doubles action so far. But Napez are keeping up with the Bryans so far.

Of course as soon as I say that, the Bryans break and take the first set. Bad luck me.

I have been to tournaments in 5 or 6 countries around the world and this is the first time I have run across this kind of intrusion. No, I don't go to tennis tournaments in the states, so maybe its an accepted act in the USofA, but don't remember being bombarded with ads during superbowls or world series events which I attended. Could be wrong about that.

Its offensive, thats why. You buy a ticket to enjoy an event not to be subjected to ads. But it seems to be acceptable in America. So, why not have ads while you are standing in line at the P.O. or DMV? Or at Amtrack? Or airplanes? The flight from SFO to Frankfurt is 11 hours. Can you sit through all those ads? And should you? I don't think you should.

It's not accepted practice at tennis tournaments, but it does certainly happen at basketball games and so on. I'm guessing the tournament is desperate for cash and only turned to this at the last moment.

There's a lot of good match ups today by the looks of things, I'm quite intrigued by the Djoker/Wawrinka game though.

Wawrinka struggled against a very in form Querrey, and will probably be fairly tired. However, that's not to say he couldn't give Djokovic a run for his money. Djokovic hasn't exactly been in great form all year, so Wawrinka has an outside shot of an upset if he plays well. He's gotta play aggressive and not let Djokovic take control of the rallies.

You're correct.

Everywhere, in the US, we're bombarded with advertisements... even when we pay a premium for something.

Hey, LG!
I didn't have any internet access the whole week plus I was busy watching tennis.

I did get to see Richie play, and it was a good performance. Got my picture taken with him too, it was awesome.

wow! how cool is that?

how was it going w/out internet for a week? :D

I can't believe it. They are peppering the audience with ads during breaks. How American!

and what nationality are you, Leublu?
(i really want to know)

You made this point before, including the America bashing, and I called you on it. Either you didn't see my response or you ignored it. So let me start there and see if I have any better luck.

youre kidding, right?
i've heard those "commercials" at tournaments all around the world. i was surprised the first time i heard them online. you usually dont hear them if youre watching commercial tv, because tv cuts to its own commercials, but every stadium (except for Melbourne, USO, Wimby, Roland Garros) around the world is supported by the community it's in, and those communities are lured in to the stadiums by contests etc.

edit: It was most noticeable at Bercy, France as well as at Rotterdam, but i've noticed it elsewhere as well.

Don't go on a slippery slope here with airlines and trains. There are paper ads in those places. I don't find it offensive. It's during changeovers. There is no tennis being played. There have been some that were quite entertaining. Little jingles and such. They are not as loud as they seem on the streams. I have not attended many sporting events outside of America, but all that I have attended do have advertising. It's part of sports. No sports can survive without it. You are entitled to your opinion, but I, as ticket buyer, don't care if they advertise. There is nothing on my ticket that says I won't be subjected to ads. (There's usually an ad on my ticket, though.)

Would I prefer there were no ads? Sure, but I also would prefer a hot oil rubbed man to hold an umbrella while I sit in my massaging chair in the best seat in the stadium. Advertising money is how everything is run. Ticket sales only fund part of tournaments and the players earnings.

Anyways, I understand that you find it offensive, but I think it's easy to just turn down the volume during changeovers and not take offense. That's all.

Did you post any pics or do a thread about your IW experience?

http://s181.photobucket.com/albums/x249/rampituptothemax/2009 BNP Paribas Open/

Here are some of my favorite shots I took. I went there on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The practice courts are awesome, you can get really close to the players, especially enjoyed the Gasquet/Wawrinka practice. Out of all the matches I saw the best one had to be Hutchins/Murray vs Berdych/Kiefer and of course getting to see Richie win in singles was great too. Had Stadium tickets for all the way up in the stands so spent most of my time in the smaller courts. Only went to the main stadium for a few matches like Federer and Murray singles and Nadal's doubles match. Overall and awesome experience.
