Nadal won his last 3 encounters with Berdych on grass, clay and hard. Last time Berdych beat Nadal was in 2006. I don't think he's such a bad matchup for Rafa.

Some would argue that it's hardcourt since clay and grass are both natural surfaces and grass has slowed down over the years. Grass is the surface in which Nadal has had to make the least adjusment from clay in his career. It took longer for Nadal to truly excel on hardcourt as opposed to grass so I say hardcourt is the most different. Maybe in the 80's and 90's the grass would have been the case, not anymore. Anyway, I still find it preposterous that you think it's surprising that Nadal would be the favorite at Wimby in which he will be defending his title and he's been at least a 3 time finalist. If say Murray were odds on favorite I would be surprised, mainly because he's done nothing at slams outside of one up to this point. Another one would be making Nadal the favorite at the US Open. He never won that or made a final, so then your statement would hold up better. But Wimby? C'mon man, you're just putting Nadal down a notch. If Joker or Murray were favorites I'd be surprised, but not Nadal. He's proven himself.

I don't think crowd noise affects Nadal much or at all. He won the French Open the last 4 years in a row and always having had to deal with the crowd pretty much wanting him to lose all the time. Actually, he had the Brit crowd against him when he destroyed Murray at Wimbledon last summer. And to be honest, at every slam final that have faced each other Fed has always had the crowd in his pocket and it hasn't done anything to switch the h2h in his favor. So that crowd theory holds no water, especially with Nadal.

You actually believe that hype that grass is slowed down so much? Come on. Nadal had a really hard time breaking Federer on grass. He has gotten better but still it is not easy. Nadal makes up for it with his comfort on the surface. The dirt on the ground is similar to clay and I think hurts a lot of the hard court players. The bounces are unpredictable which hurt players who try to take the ball early. Fed is a grass court specialist despite how well he does everywhere else. Similar to Nadal on clay. They both should make the finals as I think they have the least competition on grass but it will be a battle once again.

Way to go Querrey. Sometimes Querrey can be excellent. I'll always remember the great match he gave Rafa at the Davis Cup. His height helps him a lot with the top spin.

Safin/Massau is fun so far.

It's kind of ridiculous how there are no big grass tournaments outside of Wimby. Yeah, there's a few 250's, but they're just warm-ups right before Wimbledon... How about a 500 event, or even a Masters on Grass? The ATP can do it....
and While i'm rambling, how about a Masters on Carpet?

There is no hype. There are facts and analysis by several experts on it. They know what they are talking about. You don't.

Nadal says Wimbledon is the fastest slam. I'm sure you'll get experts saying both things. Fed serving a ton of aces and putting Nadal on the defense happens still. Fed's serve was so much easier to handle at the Australian Open. Hard to believe that despite that the Australian Open is faster.

A. ITF says AO is faster
B. Former Wimbledon CEO said there was a concentrated effort in order to slow the grass down
C. Many pro and former pros agree that the grass is fairly slow
D. There was a serve analysis that proves that the grass is significantly slower
E. No expert (as far as I know) says the grass is fast



Federer's serve is much easier to handle when he's serving 45% btw. Please, do not bring in your biased "logic" into this thread.

No experts? Fed said he hasn't noticed a difference. Nadal said in his blog at the Australian Open that Wimbledon is the fastest. I even asked him. You get whiny Henman to use the excuse that Wimbledon is slower because he is declining. Maybe it is slightly slower but it could be said about all the tournaments slowed down. No idea how accurate that serve analysis was. Just so many different factors for you to state it a fact. I still can't believe you won't even say that Wimbledon is faster than the Australian Open.

I have multiple sources of information; I've posted multiple interviews, analysis, articles, and so much more. What have you shown me? A biased "statistical analysis" and the word of the guy just won the tournament last year? Riiiiiiiight.

His average is like 100. I think he actually hit a fault at 123...he's weak by pro standards, but is still a lot better of a server than your average player.

Safin tanks it when serving for the match. Wants to make it more exciting for the spectators, give them something to remember him by, this being his last year and all. He might even let it go three.
