I’m disappointed none of my children said Sampras vs Agassi 2001 USO QF. 4 straight TB, wish it went the distance

What such matches do you have in mind? Some of my nominations are:

Federer-Djokovic FO 2011 SF
Federer-Davydenko AO 2006 QF
Sampras-Agassi 2001 USO QF
Djokovic-Roddick 2008 USO QF (Roddick choked when serving for the 4th set)

Any other matches in mind?

Fed Nadal FO and Wimbledon 2006

I agree 2020 AO, Thiem won 76 46 76 76 over Nadal.
Physically Nadal deserved a 5th Set because Thiem didn't look better than him, but mentally he was very messy and not his usual self on big points, so maybe he didn't deserve a 5th Set.
And those darn net calls!

Edberg-Stich in Wim 91 SF comes to mind first. Poor Edberg, never broken in the match, broke Stich once, but lost 3 TBs.

i think murray won the first set when the roof was open, they closed the roof and allowed fraud to cheat away the next three sets.......i am not 100% sure but they did open and close the roof, that djokovic semis was played totally under the roof.........

Federer won the 2nd set with the roof open.

Rain stopped play early in the third set, and play was suspended for half an hour as the roof was closed for the first time for a Wimbledon final.

but keep going, you pathetic frauding Nadal fanboy.

Greatest four set match ever:

Sampras-Agassi USO 2001: 6-7, 7-6 ,7-6, 7-6.
The 4 TBs were great, but maybe there should have been a few breaks here and there. However, as it went it was more special in a way.

Do you think the 5th set would have been a TB as well? Or would the disappointment of not closing it out be too much for Sampras, like in Australia 2000?

Murray was even better than first set of just as good and still lost it :D

yep

1st set : 79 points overall
Murray won 42 points
Federer 37 points

Murray : 10 winners, 5 UEs, forced 16 errors from federer , i.e 26 winners+errors forced to 5 UEs (which is pretty good) (+21)
Federer : 11 winners, 16 UEs, forced 21 errors from Murray, i.e 32 winners+errors forced to 16 UEs (not that good) (+16)

2nd set : 78 points overall
Murray won 38 points
Federer 40 points

Murray : 14 winners, 4 UEs, forced 16 errors from Federer, i.e 30 winners+errors forced to 4 UEs (which is pretty good) (+26)
Federer : 19 winners, 8 UEs, forced 17 errors from Murray, i.e 36 winners+errors forced to 8 UEs (which is pretty good)(+28)

Murray was finishing his service games easier as well which you don’t often see.

I think the first set was better from Fed than the stats show as well. He had Murray on the ropes in the middle and nearly went 5-3 up. He started off quite badly which brings the stats down more.

3 in games Fed broke already. 9 saved by Djokovic and 4 converted by Fed. It’s 7/23 really that Fed is at fault for. And many of them came in game were Djokovic DFed and made a fair few errors himself.
Sets? Clearly a single break on three occasions wasn't enough, so I have a hard time dismissing those. There's interpretation for the rest, but that strike rate is shoddy any way you slice it (especially if it's into the net ;) ).

It was a part joke to the comment. Fed had his chances but not as many as people claim to me.

I agree that typically a poor ratio isn't as poor as it seems - I mean, just intuitively the ratio should on average be more misses than hits, so something like 3/10 seems like it would be reasonable, even though it might seem rubbish at first glance.

1987 AO SF, Cash d Lendl 7-6(1) 5-7 7-6(5) 6-4.

1999 USO QF, Pioline d Kuerten 4-6 7-6(6) 7-6(14) 7-6(8) - raucuous stuff.

2011 WB 4R, Nadal d delPotro 7-6(6) 3-6 7-6(4) 6-4.
61 winners to 16 errors from Nadal one of his best on grass. Nadal even got injury effected in this match as well making it more impressive.

Karlovic Murray Wim 15 was good. Not for entertainment but for quality. Murray lobbing and returning was unreal in that one. Tight match could have gone 5 even.

Gonna throw in a random but interesting recent one and say Medvedev vs Rublev at the US open 2020. I don't know how many of you remember it even tho it was the other week but both men hit some incredible shots and had some epic rallies, we even had some Rublev meltdown drama but the actual tennis was high quality almost the entire match and i would have loved to see it go on longer.

Has anyone said Djokovic-Dimitrov Wimbledon 2014? I think Dimitrov was up 6-3 in the fourth set tiebreak but couldn't push it to five. Would have been fun if he had. He was playing very well that tournament.

If he had pushed it to 5, Federer would have won Wimb, IMO. Djoko hasn't been great after playing long matches post 2012 AO.
