Bonjour from Babolat: Part Trois

Hi Nostradamus,

The target unstrung weight of the PA+ is 10.6 ounces, +/- .246 ounces. I presume the 11.2 ounce weight you are referencing is a strung weight? I have no doubt, given the tolerances, that you could find a strung one at 11.1 ounces if that is the weight you are looking for. I might suggest looking for one even a bit lighter so you can add a little weight to get it just right. I don't know any advisable way to remove weight from the head if you already have a racquet. I've seen folks trim off portions of the bumper guard, but 0.1 ounce is roughly 2.8 grams, which means you would have to remove about 35% of the bumper guard on the PA+ to drop the weight by 0.1 ounce. That wouldn't leave much left in the way of protection, imho.

I had no idea the 2019 Pure Aero Plus had such low moderate swing weight of 330. I think the Pure Aero Plus 2019 plus would have been even better with SW of 332.6356 instead of 330. Is there way to add weight to racquet head to make 332.6356...perfect...would grommets from original aero pro drive fit? Maybe RPM Blast string, my ultimate string of choice could be made heavier? Need more stability to play against people who hit ball hard.

I think if the RPM Blast in black was made with the new Dolby True Black technology it would increase the atomic weight
"increasing atomic weight", whats that for semi scientific nonsense!
The weight of atoms can not be altered besides with nucleair processes like nucleair fusion.
To my chagrin some forum threads are full of scientific nonsense.
The only relevant question anybody could ask Babolat why they are stopping the production appearantly of their Duel en Rpm Team strings, which are as good as the Blast strings and possesing better tension maintainance too?
They should have stopped Hurricane tour however long time ago because its simply lifeless.

That Is easy to do.. just Add 1 strip of Babolat lead tape at 3 and 9 oclock position. ALL the pros do this even with rackets that is custom made for them from Babolat.

Hi Pleb,

Not as far as I've heard at the moment. I think that we want to see how this goes with the VS racquets before we expand the offering any further. I will relay this to our product folks in France though. Thanks!

Dear Josh. Congrats to you and Mr. Babolat. Jo Willie Tsonga seem to be playing great now with renewed vigor. and that new Pure aero 2019 plus he is using seem to be helping him as well.

There will be no pleasing everyone with swing weight. You're darned if you increase it and darned if you decrease it.

Personally, I applaud the 2019 aero for moving to become more flexible. I actually ordered my first ever aero racquet (plus 2019 version) after being impressed by the demo. I'd love to see a low 60s RA version of this same mold. I think that would be a killer combo.

I also appreciate the more open string pattern having come from a 16x18 prince graphite.

Still haven't decided what to string mine with or the tension. I have:

1) Tour Bite 16L
2) Yonex Poly Tour Pro
3) ALU Big Banger
4) Cyclone 16

Any recommendations?

I agree. but my question is this... Even the pros add lead tape even after babolat gives them custom rackets. So Why is it that some of these Amateurs want heavier SW just for them when most people want lower SW ?? Why is it so hard for them to add few lead tape to get the SW up to their desired range ? Pros do it all the time and it is so so easy to do.
But on the other hand, if you start with High SW, you can't take off weight anywhere to decrease it,, you are just stuck.

That's valid. Better to be more of a platform racquet. The point remains though that 90% of players will never experiment with lead tape, so they won't ever try the possible combos. They might just write off the racquet... which is a lot of what I see people do with the ultra tour.

@Nostradamus BTW- you could always get the Lite and extend it with an XTP buttcap. That will surely have a super low SW you can customize.
Only issue with Lite is that it is really unstable in the head due to lower weight. so even if I extend it, still you have a unstable head in the racket. so I have to add lead to the head and extend it then what results is another modified racket with very very heavy SW. LOL

No, Babolat Man must make the exact racquet for me, perfect swing weight of 332.6356. Extra plow and weight most stable on volley and serve. Cortex in head and throat of racquet to delete all vibration. To make custom 325 swingweight babolat do what the pros do and remove head guard and use thin gauge string....babolat rpm blast 18g perfect bestest string ever most comfortable deliver big spin.

Actually they might be able to. If you have $100,000 to spare or Mr. Basos as your best buddie then bobalat cater to all your needs.

332.233 would be a more ideal sw and a nicer number.... Dude lol. I see what you did there.

Just know that SW of 332 or higher isn't appealing to 90 % of Amateur players. That is also part of the reason why most amateur buy the standard length rackets, these tend to have lower SW because it is shorter length.

Yes

Yes and no.
Amateurs MAY opt for LONGER racquets as their short strokes are lacking of power.

Custom racquets for pro players....but of course some lead tweaking (sometimes a lot) are done. From what I've seen the custom pro-stock racquet is of a specific mold and lay-up of materials. It is made at a weight close to their desired specs but still light enough to modify not just for one player but for several that get the pro-stock.

As @bleno567 stated about starting off with the Lite model... have you @Nostradamus tried it? and you saying it will be very very heavy...just start off with a few strips of lead as you say the pros do.

NO. Clearly the store sales around the country shows that most amateurs prefer to use standard length racket that has SW below 330.
Store sales are never a good sign of what is "good". Since 80% of consumers are morons, they will buy based on a whole lot of other factors than "is this the best racket for improving my tennis game". There's a reason that racket companies spend more money on marketing than R&D.

EXACTLY, right. Racket companies #1 priority is to make Money. so they are gearing their rackets to please those 80 % of the morons as you said. They only care which racket will sell the most. They will make 14 oz racket if that is what will sell the most but that just isn't the case.

I have purchased an additional Pure Aero Drive and now am looking at competitors offering of racquet bags and backpacks. Babolat product manager is missing big marketing opportunities to promote their brand by not offering Pure Aero Drive racquet and backpack sizes for people who want to carry either one or two racquets and storage of clothing, balls, shoes as small accessories!

What is it about the PA Backpack you don't like?
