Border Force policy changed while Djokovic was on flight according to an Australian Immgration expert.

"The grounds stated for Djokovic's original cancellation were that the Australian government did not accept a valid medical exemption from the Victorian government.

As explained by former deputy secretary of the Department of Immigration Abul Risvi on the 7.30 program, "Until and including the fifth of January, the policy was that Border Force would accept exemption medical certificates from state governments, such as the Victorian state government, at face value … [on] the sixth of January the policy changed."

Prime Minister Scott Morrison was asked about the exemption prior to Djokovic's arrival.

"That is a matter for the Victorian government," he said. "They have provided him an exemption to come to Australia, so we then act in accordance with that decision, and that's been happening for the past two years."

It is also on the public record that prior to January 5 at least one other player and an official had flown into Victoria with the same exemptions.

After January 6 they were arrested and deported with Czech player Renata Voracova, who is deciding if she will now sue Tennis Australia for costs."

The thread will probably get “quashed” upon review. The mods appear to be all coked up today smashing threads left and right with no rhyme or reason. Without Natural Justice. Like an Australian Immigration Minister Gone Wild. Scary times.

The smoking gun showing a concerted effort to prevent Djokovic from coming into the country through any means necessary

He’s not a health risk. Kicking him out as “a risk to safety or good order”?

You need to kick him out by explaining that you were going to give TA latitude to grant exceptions so long as it was all “below board” :sneaky:but that after the smug tweet and the blowback you got the message loud and clear that the public wasn’t into it.

Or you have to let him stay and play unvaxed.

The admin law judge is laughing. That guy saw where it was going way before the Oz clowns. 8-B

Unfortunately for Djokovic the immigration minister can deport on any grounds that finds a person a “risk to Australia”, so this won’t help him.

Unfortunately for Australians you have a buffoon as a PM, and I hate to say it, but this article is a true summary of the farcical nature of his initial visa cancellation and the bizarre inconsistencies in the country’s COVID policy

Fortunately for all of us, this will be over soon.

I appreciate you tagging me but at this point, I think I'll wait for more information and clarification from today's events in Australia. Abul Rizvi is giving his view in that excerpt which is fine. Like I said, a moratorium from me for now as we are in the home stretch.

It is a quote from an Australian Broadcasting Corporation news article I posted underneath. Unlike other Australian networks, they have been objectively reporting news - not speculations throughout this ordeal.

Can something that has already been obvious to everyone have a “smoking gun?”

Very Old News Flash: The public got wind of his “exemption permission” because he blasted it out and the public wanted the border vax policy applied to everyone probably especially to everyone rich and famous. And the Govt heard the message loud and clear.

Duh we knew this already from the Prime Minister's interview about deference to Victoria, before he changed his mind.

That's why Aussie govt malfeasance should be a way bigger scandal than some ill-conceived machinations of a vaccine-phobic guy. Djoker's just a tennis player. They are a GOVERNMENT.

Agreed.

Australians seem to care more about djokovic’s agent ticking the wrong box, as opposed to their governments gaslighting and lying to them repeatedly over the past 2 years.

My intention is not to dissuade Djokovic haters. You have made your opinion on him long before this saga judging by your posts. Each story has two sides. One side is being attacked and silenced here by a lynch mob who despise Djokovic (for whatever reason) and will not be happy until he disappears from the face of the planet. As I said before in another post, I am not going to justify his behaviour after he found out he was positive on the 17-th and I think it is deserving of criticism and hopefully persecution in Serbia. It was morally wrong what he did as well. However, his situation here in Australia is a totally different matter. He was wronged - badly. By the press, by our Government. I do not stand with Djokovic in his vaccination position or his post-infection behaviour in Belgrade, but I definitely stand with Djokovic in his situation with the Government of Australia.

Didn’t ABF call Victoria to ask if they were vouching for Eggvax implying ABF thought the policy was still in effect? And Victoria was all like “Eggvax who?” because they didn’t want to take the heat.

Pretty much. Daniel Andrews (Victorian premier) is a flog and has tried to pin every single one of his failings on the federal government.

It’s just been one huge game of political football that has nothing whatsoever to do with health or risk.

Nope. The federal government told Tennis Australia weeks ago on two occasions that previous Covid infection alone was insufficient for entry into the country. Nothing changed while Novak was on an airplane.

The federal government also told the Australian people that the Victorian authorities had carriage in this matter and that they would abide by the outcome of the Victorian process. In Australia we have a failed former marketing executive as our PM, and he tries to walk both sides of the street on everything until he works out where public opinion lies, and then he follows that. That's why he twists and contorts and contradicts himself constantly, so that his position on one issue often consists of two or more mutually exclusive positions. It's how he got himself in his current mess.

You kidding. Loads of threads nuked. Threads with good jokes, finely curated gifs, some more serious comments, good Covidiot material. Quality stuff that people took time to help craft. Poof! I even posted the leaked schedule of the Hawke Minister guy. Gone!:(

It’s speculation but I told you why. :X3:

incorrect again mate.

III sides to every story. Yours. Mine. and the Truth.

This case has proved that Australia has completely tottered into authoritarianism rather than holding by the rule of law. You don't have one legal principle and then change it in order to intimidate or attack an undesired individual, purely for political points and to placate the mob. We're not talking about some weird terrorist that Australia's executive needed to exercise its powers to deal with in an exceptional manner. We're talking about someone who got a valid medical exemption that was respected for other players prior to him but when it was discovered who the person was, and that he is vaccine skeptical, they decided to target this individual for destruction and discriminate by changing the interpretation of the policies. That's why the judge said "What more could this man have done?" Implicit in the question is the recognition that he had a valid medical exemption that until that point had been recognized. Notwithstanding the ex post facto scrubbing of Voracova and the other person out of the country to cover up their tracks.

That's how Islamic Iran, the USSR, Communist China, **** Germany, etc. behaves or behaved. Arbitrary and discriminatory and disproportionately.

Hope the Australians enjoy their xenophobic dictatorship.
