Borg vs McEnroe movie

Usually, the actors are more handsome than the people they portray but in this case, I think Borg and McEnroe were more handsome in their youth than these actors are :)

Not sure where handsome and McEnroe are coming together on the same sentence... but from the trailer I saw a while back, I was not impressed by the looks of these 2 guys! Especially Mac's character is more of a comedy version...

I don't think McEnroe was handsome but that actor Shia Labeoug looks worse because he is a full 2 inches shorter than McEnroe :-O
In tennis, you would look like a dwarf on TV if you are not 5 f 10 or taller (for a male tennis player).

The lack of ideas is just mindblowing, so they have to make a movie about a match. Yes I know that is a special/legendary match an I know that they would show some inner battles of both. BUT all of this you can watch in You Tube with you know ... the actual Borg and the actual Mcenroe !!! Who is expected to see this movie - you cant go with your girlfriend, you cant go with your friends or little brother or family. The target group are big tennis fans and probably people from Sweden. And thats not all, I just recently saw that they are making a movie about the Battle of sexes and you can be sure that it would probably have some deeper meaning ala "women are as strong as men" or " that match and victory changed the whole Women world" and bla bla ..

Three-four years after the Boston marathon we have 2+ movies about it, we have also a movie about the oil rig in Mexico(thank you Mark Walberg), we have tons of ****y remakes + superhero movies with the same plot and zero suspens. Movies like Inception are just rare gems...

 Why are you talking about the movie that hasn't come out when this is an HBO special?

It is a movie about Borg and McEnroe at Wimbledon.
We don't need to watch the movie to know the plot, being tennis fans:

Borg feeling burn out, McEnroe eclipsing Borg and beating him to win the Wimbledon championship
Borg then retiring a few years later.

It is like Christians watching a movie about Jesus Christ. Everybody should know the plot without having to see it o_O

Trying to figure out what this thread is about; the posted video or the movie? The posted video is quite good, but nobody appears to have bothered to watch it.o_O

I recall watching the documentary awhile back and I'd forgotten how well done it was. What a great relationship between Mac and Borg. They truly needed each other to play their best and it showed in their matches. And now tennis has been treated to seeing another iteration of the sport through the Rafa-Fed rivalry.

I hope you didn't hurt yourself rolling your eyes. Just before the video starts, there is a pic of the actors of the movie... so we were discussing the actors. I had seen a trailer for the movie, so I can comment on the actors looks.
If you still can't fallow, I'll make a drawing for you ;-p

Thoroughly enjoyed this exceptional video. I wouldn't put the Rafa vs Fed rivalry quite on the same level. Sadly Nadal was MIA in 2009 and Berdych spoiled the party in 2010 at Wimby. Plus Rafa and Fed have never played at US Open. We need another Wimbledon final and maybe even a US Open final this year to rival Borg vs. McEnroe. Didn't realize the popularity of early Borg.

Without Borg half of us in here would maybe never be interested in tennis ;) He made tennis huge. Everybody liked him, young and old.
There is some good documentaries on Youtube about their rivlary. Mcenroe saying it was Borg that inspired him to become great, he was a ball boy in one of his matches. Borg must be the most popular player of all times. It has taken me so many years to understand how big he really was. Watching Borg recently has made my interest for wooden racquet days increase.

This is about Borg, 2 hours all together. Only about Borg in Wimbledon, so this is for the ones very interested I guess. I really like this docu. But it is in Swedish which I understand, its texted and I see that the text doesnt show who is talking so maybe a bit hard to get excited about, and its old. But I have learned a lot from watching it. Borg really hated the grass in the beginning, he wasnt a born grass player at all. He was a good clay courter. The way he kept his focus and how he just played his game. Bjørn is saying he got critique from playing 2HBH. He was the player that made that big. If you manage to get to the second video youll get to Borgs view on Mcenroe.
Ill see if I can find my fav Borg Mcenroe docu and post it later.

This one! And its easier to understand.
Borg was like a rock star, not comparable to Federer or Rafa really. You can find docus about when tennis rocked the world and so on from those days. Tennis was bigger before, both in Europe and USA.

Always interesting to see a tennis movie, so I will definitely watch. I wonder if the actual "tennis scene" will look decent or just awful like most other movies who have tried to portray a tennis match, with terrible CGI and actors that clearly don't know how to hold a frame.

When I saw the trailer I thought Christian Bale was playing the Iceman until I looked it up on IMDB and saw that it was some Swedish actor.

That dude looks so much like Borg. Hope this is a good movie.
Gives me a "Rush" vibe, that was a great F1 rivalry film. If this is as good, we're in for a treat.

bump bumpity bump. Thought it was a wonderful film, more a look at Borg's inner torment and fear of failure than a dull recreation of the rivalry itself (dull because it would have never matched up to the real thing). The early shots from Borg's perspective as his car is hounded by the paparazzi and fans were brilliant. You get a glimpse of how intimidating it can be to be that famous. The conversation with the French waiter (did it really happen? Not that it matters) was another fantastic scene. Also when Borg pleads with the coach to get a match pushed to the next day because he is paralysed by fear (he is losing when rain stops play).

Rush was a great film but more of a rivalry film, splitting time evenly between the characters. Borg-McEnroe is really more of a Borg character study. The filmmaker seems to have taken the view that since McEnroe left it all out on court anyway, he is not so interesting as a character. Fair enough, Borg is more of an enigma.

I, for one, loved it. But I'm a European and therefore biased due to the media coverage in my country (Denmark). Still, it had all the great signs of a great sports movie: conflict, dispear, overcoming stuff etc.

Borg vs. McEnroe is on Hulu in the US; I watched it last night.

Be prepared for lots of silent staring (read inner angst).

The premise seems to be that Borg and Mac were a lot more alike than we had previously thought--both were obsessively, ferociously driven. The movie said Borg was more like "a pressure cooker": he kept it building up inside, channeling it into his strokes. Whereas McEnroe let it all out "on the court." Lots of scenes of their childhoods.

The film ends with these two running into each other in a London airport after the 1980 Wimbledon final. They shake hands, chat, and even hug. Subtitles then tell you that Mac became no. 1, Borg retired, and that they became really close friends.

One thing that was fairly clear was that neither actor knew anything about playing tennis: both looked quite awkward and angular when hitting.

P.S. The actor playing Connors looked nothing like him, whereas the actor playing Vitas did resemble him.

I hear Borg and McEnroe will feature heavily in the upcoming season of Games of Throne. You heard it here first.

Oh, and yes, that movie was complete tosh. The only thing of note is Borg Jr's performance, which I thought was very good.

Lol I haven’t seen a tennis movie ever that doesn’t have a couple of hackers trying to look like ATP players. It’s like a comedy. The closest I saw was the recent movie “Battle of the sexes” mainly because Riggs was an old man when he played BJK and looked like an out of shape club player. Emma something at least looked athletic.
That said I’ve been trying to find the movie “Fire and Ice” Is it on Netflix, anybody? I have fire stick.
