The former Nole's coach thinks the Serbian player has all the qualities to come back to his best level. 'There isn't really a reason. The competition is at a much higher level than what you can think, if you are not 100% you notice it straightaway. It was like this for him, but for Andy Murray too. In Melbourne everyone was surprised, but I am not worried. Novak knows how to be back at the top', Becker recently said.

The 1986 Wimbledon Champion also added he sees closer Djokovic, but prefers not to comment on his performances. ''I saw most of his matches this season especially in Doha, but I am not with him daily anymore. I don't know how much he makes effort in the training sessions and how much he is focused. It doesn't make me appropriate to give him suggestions.''

Is that why Becker said Rafa is the favorite for FO ?

What are the implications till FO should Rafa beat Novak in straight sets at Acapulco ?

Becker said that because he knows Nadal doesn't like to be the favourite. Indirectly helping Djokovic. Smart Becker. ;)

Becker is a real friend for Djokovic. A friend and mentor. That's a winning combo. I hope they get back together, if even just because Becker is so loyal.

They're not "friends." They never see each other unless it's at a major tournament and they bump into each other. Becker is "loyal" to whatever player will fork over his salary as coach. If someone like Nick hired him tomorrow, Becker would forget Nole in a split second. A player-coach relationship is about loyalty when the partnership is ongoing. Once it's over, it's over.

I called Becker's departure from Djokovic's camp some time before it happened. Djokovic has struggled to get himself into the necessary mental shape since winning the French Open, and the change in Djokovic's mentality meant that he and Becker became less compatible, hence their split soon after. Djokovic fans hoping that he and Becker get back together, and that the past success will just return, seem to miss the reason as to why they split in the first place. 3 years ago, Djokovic needed Becker to help him improve mentally in the biggest matches. After winning the 2016 French Open, Djokovic's mentality has been in a very different place to what it was in 2014. Djokovic has to find a way to come to terms with his current situation and to find new challenges. He has struggled with that so far.

I don't know about that. I remember Brad Gilbert waxing lyrical about Andre Agassi when Gilbert was coaching Andy Roddick, just before Roddick and Agassi were about to meet at 2003 Queen's Club. By that point, Agassi had been coached by Darren Cahill for about 16 months.
