Boris Becker movie 2017

did anyone watch the documentary movie about Boris Becker 2017? I saw it on NetFlix a couple days ago. A very interesting movie.

What I learned from watching the movie is that Becker was NOT one of the top junior tennis players in Germany, didn't have the best skills and certainly not the fastest. But I guess as Tom Brady of the New England Patriots, who was draft in the 6th round (199th overall), said "who the hell are these experts, they don't know sh_t". What they can not measure is the heart of a champion. I guess the same goes for Boris Becker.

The best advise I saw in the movie is in order to be the best tennis player or any sports for that matter, physical training is a lot more important than hitting the tennis balls.

Sounds good! About time there was a good tennis documentary/film.

Thanks :)

I was shocked to see how bad of a shape Becker's body is in the documentary, in particular his right foot, and also his elbows (???). Also shocked to see his abysmal financial situation. He needs to stop playing poker, and stop living the high life with vacations in Ibiza.

That's the difference between Boris Becker (he is an idiot) and Roger Federer. Boris Becker hangs out with Ion Tiriac (the Romanian snake) while Roger Federer hangs out with Warren Buffet (he owns NetJet), Larry Ellison and Bill Gates. I am sure the Oracle of Omaha (eg. Warren Buffet) gives Federer enough financial advice that he will not end up like Boris Becker.

This is stupendous hyperbole, though I realize your comment was sort of tongue in cheek. Roger has met Bill Gates twice and the same with Warren Buffet. He's around Larry Ellison only during IW and that' because he owns the tournament. It's well known that Rafa is Larry Ellison' guy and in fact, he stay in Ellison's house during the tournament.

And Boris hasn't been around Ion ("I eat glass") Tiriac in years, ever since Tiriac talked trash about not seeing his daughter resulting from the Nobu tryst.

Thanks for the suggestion, I enjoyed it. The guy is quite articulate, I think his commentary for a German speaking audience would be rather good, possibly. Not a fan of his BBC work though.

Good movie from the Becker perspective on his issues which is saying I believe its a biased story. I like Boris and really respect his career and achievements. I found the movie boring in the coverage of his financial failures and would have like to have more on tennis and his tennis related coaching. I think he was holding back on his relatiionships with Tiriac and Djokovich. Boris is smart to not burn any of these bridges both past and for the future.

Would love to see a Netflix or Amazon Borg and/or McEnroe offering.

I only saw beginning but from what I got, boris insinuated that he quit coaching djokovic at end of year because he was losing his intensity to win with pepe... did others get that as well?

it's kinda cryptic, they didn't mention his name but the narrator says there's a problem because djokovic "trusts his guru more than his coach these days", and then Becker talks about how djokovic needs anger and intensity to win, etc.. at about 7min. mark

Yes, I noticed the same thing. Pretty obvious he was talking about Pepe.

Agree, I believe Pepe was a major issue in his down fall.

Really want to see this. Is there an English version available anywhere outside of Netflix?

I enjoyed Der Spieler.
Loyal wife. Likable exwife. Boris ends up looking better than he does in real life. The debt thing is pretty sad. But not as sad as his foot. And his elbows.
Not a bad guy. It reminded me why i loved his tennis in the eighties and early nineties.

i dont like how at any step he wants to show the world how manny rich and famous "friends" he has got. i dont understand him. like a normal human beeing is not equal to a star... and what the **** is a poker player doing in a church!? you can be black or white, there is no middle. why the **** you would be in church if you break almost all the rules of the scriptures?

i like him,but he is weird sometimes. its stunning a 50 year man is still so attracted by fame and i thought fame is the thirst of youth. he likes to be in centre of attention thats for sure.

People cant play poker and also goto church ?
Does this also including other forms of betting like sports ?
I look at small amounts of betting disposable income as entertainment but dont do it often.
If this also includes the lottery then churches would not have many attendees.

Yo, Joe, you ain't legally permitted within a forty acre radius of a church or temple if you:
play poker, get tipsy on that Ripple, frontally hug a friend of opposite gender (must go with the side-hug), eat bacon-wrapped shrimp, mix fabrics, blend meat and cheese in a meal, cheat on your taxes, or desire a married person. Or if you are like me and you desire your neighbor's brown Subaru wagon which is basically a really well-engineered, high performance donkey.

Sin in any way, and the religious folks can and will stone you. They cannot even let you in to confess, and ask for forgiveness ... at all. Cannot go in to gain spiritual wisdom. Or serve others. Or listen to the pastor's sermons and get smarter. Or learn the word of God. Or have healthy discussion.

You are just toast, man. Don't even think about it, Boris!

We are all going to 6311 for even thinking about all these life choices.
Maybe everyone should just get lobotomized ;)

The topic of Boris brings back so many memories.

- Boris was my hero growing up. He made so much news after winning Wimbledon in '85 and '86 then he was all across newspapers. I just started to follow and became instant fan. With his boyish looks and boom boom serve he was the fan favorite all across.
- Watched all wimbledon finals from '88 to '95. Sadly the only time he won was '89. The semifinal win over Lendl was a classic. The '90 final was so heartbreaking. missing the overhead while being a break up in 5th set. '95 semi win over Agassi was another one.
- Anyway he was my favorite. I was so overjoyed whenever he won the slams and sad whenever he lost to Sampras and Agassi.

But since the last 12 years, my new all time favorite is Roger Federer. And Beceker started to fall off the pedestal by making trash comments, first in support of Nadal and after he became coach of Djokovic his antics grew so bad that I dislike him now.

(Note: In between Boris has screwed himself financially and personally)

And the same thing is with Federer. Boris Becker(mainly) and Edberg were his heroes growing up (that was said a number of times in earlier days ). But since Becker became coach of Djokovic and trash talked Federer he is in Roger's bad books.

In all recent interviews he says Edberg was my hero. I can understand it fully.

Great post. Well spoken, well put. I feel the same. In the 80s and 90s, i Rooted for Boris over Mats, Edberg, Pete, Andre, Ivan, Mac, and even Stich.
But ever since then, because of his immaturity, und his huge ego and uber-big mouth, his stock has fallen. I admire Mats, Edberg, and Lendl now more than ever before.

After seeing Der Spieler, I have again softened on Boris. I remember why i admired his tennis. His spirit on the court.

Clearly, Federer, rafter, and guga kuerten are my favorites now. But i am happy i watched the film. Twice.

Becker should hop back on the tour. Winnings now are a lot more than 30 years ago. It would help pay off his debts for sure.

Its highly interesting indeed. Very intimate and a little bit cringy at times. Even though I don't like Becker too much, me and my girlfriend did watch it in one go when we zapped into it.

Netflix: https://www.netflix.com/title/80222971

edit: I just realised they removed it from the ARD mediathek & haven't got the rights anymore. too bad.

They can, but why? What is the point to build a church? I thought the Churches are tempels of God, and priests should follow the Scriptures (Bible), but often they do not. It common knowledge that most of the attendees ar the greatest sinners. If you ask me, its nonsense to pray if you are not a true Jesus follower. And why visit the Church if you break all the commandments? I just dont see the point.
Just sayin. Becker obviusly believes in a christian God, but he breaks almost all his rules and still bows down to him in a church. One rule of the bible is also that we should not be using faith, or our prayers or our righteus work to be recognized or noticed.
Example: Brad Pitt giving 1 million to poor children and with that becoming more famous because he is in every news paper.
I say: If you help, help in silence. And if you pray, pray in silence. Boris Becker obviously is not wise enough to understand this.

look:

Whenever you fast, do not put on a gloomy face as the hypocrites do, for they neglect their appearance so that they will be noticed by men when they are fasting. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full. 17“But you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face 18so that your fasting will not be noticed by men, but by your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.

this is only one example in bible, which tells that is very important to be humble, and not to behave in a way that is intended to attract attract attention or admiration.

im just sayin half of the people that are visiting churches havent a clue what the message of the bible is.

now. Here is the proof, I too think Djokovic needs anger in his life, he is a angry player. He needs a steak and animalish training and not PEPE and this harekrishna seanses of love.

Tennis is not about LOVE, tennis is about hitting a ball into opponents brain or feet until he collapses.

As Pope Francis says church is a field hospital for sinners not a museum for saints.

While on the topic perhaps we should all remember another from quote Jesus -
Matthew 7:5

You are right but:

Pope Francis and almost all popes in the history are the biggest sinners of them all. Just read the background of Francis - he is not what it seems he is!
and in the bible is written:

And do not call anyone on earth 'father,' for you have one Father, and he is in heaven.

There is only Holy Father (God) and Vatican is a blasphemy against God! They call themselfes God on Earth and representative of God and blablabla. Oh my God - and they sit on golden chairs. No wonder that the Bible says that Rome will turn into ASHES.

the world is full of lies, should we ignore everything (and not judge?)
