Boris Becker Tennis gone?

http://borisbecker.com/ << the site has been down for days now. If it was just a simple server issue I'm sure it would have been fixed right away - but due to the fact the site has been down since at least Wednesday (and perhaps longer) it leads me to believe the brand may just not be moving forward anymore. They also hadn't updated their site (or racquet range) for quite a while now.

If indeed they are 'done' I think it may be due to the fact that their line of racquets just didn't differentiate itself (with some exceptions) that much from Volkl. It would have been nice to see some box beam / Estusa type of frames maybe or just something different that gave you a reason to buy a Becker frame vs a Volkl.

Don't jump to conclusions too quickly - they may have simply got into a dispute with whatever company hosts their website.

Having said that, does anyone have any news as to what's going on with them?

(Incidentally, BB has just released a few new racquets - see other thread).

OK ... put me down for the 'jumped to conclusions' too quickly category on this one :) Maybe it's just a website upgrade for the new line that went horribly, horribly wrong.

I do love the look of the "London" frame though. Interesting specs too - quite light (about 11oz strung) but looks very much like a old school player's frame otherwise.

wow .. this was a thread because a site was down??? The Dunlop site has been down more than it has been up in the last 5 years..

Too much..:???:

I think a site being down for days is not 'business as usual' and that's what made me suspicious along with the lack of much other info from them or past site updates (when the site was up). A site being down for an hour or two - ya no biggie - but days and days for a fairly significant company / brand - that's highly unusual these days. A quick call to their hosting support if that was the issue would have solved this in no time at all so that's why I still think there is more to this then just a hosting issue.

Having said that, and now having seen the photos of the new London frame - I think 'boris becker tennis gone?' title did jump to far :)

Oh the irony! My own site is down (at the exact same time I was posting about the BB site). It is a hosting issue in my case. The hosting gods have it in for me.

I herby promise never to post again about any tennis related website being down in any shape or form :)

....now how about that new Becker London frame? hahahaha (...diverts attention...)

Really....so the BB London which I strung and demoed three weeks ago, plus the two my son received 8 days ago, and all of the new London Series bags, do not truly exist except in some kind or parallel dimension because Boris' website had a coronary.

Racquets take months to develop and companies can go out of business over night. So even though a suspended account is not much to go on, the economy everywhere is in the deepest of holes so 'rationalization' is inevitable.

When was the last time anyone saw an active, up-to-date version of the BB website? I believe they haven't been maintaining a website for quite some time. I'm not saying that's the way to sell racquets, I'm just sayin'.

The internet, like radio and television, is a passing fad. Boris realizes the way to sell product is by giving a few loudmouth club players free samples and letting people be impressed by their boasting about their racquets.

Ford just pulled the plug on Mercury because people realize a Mercury is a Ford with different (and slightly more expensive) decals. The Mercury was believed to have a bit more cache. Since Volkl already has its own sort of boutique cache, I wouldn't be surprised if BB ultimately proved redundant and not very successful.

For any business owner, they should really register domain(s) by themselves and not through a hosting company. At least so that the business owner will have DNS control to point the URL to a static page, instead of having customers looking at "Account Suspended".

Yes jrod, yours may have been the worst sarcasm miss I've read on this and all other boards combined.

Afa Becker is concerned, I think they should tie in more closely with Volkl, mainly to take advantage of marketing synergies and Volkl heritage. They should make a clear distinction between the brands but have BB be sort of a boutique line within the Volkl company. That, or cut ties completely - though I'm not sure how possible that would be.

I am not sure why they have two brands. I think they should combine the brands. I do not know the numbers but in talking to my local tennis shop owner, he hesitates to stock any Beckers because he has a hard time selling them.

As has been noted earlier, Volkl is already a boutique brand, known for great quality and performance. Not sure what the benefit would be for sub brand that probably started as a vanity project.

So is BB brand dead?
Not that I know of. If the speculation is based on their website being down and out, then they were out of business a long time ago. Again I ask, when is the last time somebody saw the updated BB website up and running?

"I do not know the numbers but in talking to my local tennis shop owner, he hesitates to stock any Beckers because he has a hard time selling them."

WHY?

The line is smaller, and each stick, for what it is, stands alone as superior for what it does and what it is designed for.

I just got an email today from BB toting their new BB London racquets & bag line among other things, so they're not dead on internet.

I love it...usually posters have a hard time detecting mine. Apparently hanging around here too much desensitizes one's sarcasm detector?
Nobody is on the ball all the time on or off the court, least of all me, thanks for having a sense of humor about it!

The website had not been updated in a long time. Epic Sport International, the new corporate name for Klip, BB, and Volkl, is creating a new site.

I looked for the rackets on the sites You told me,but the sellers on DH Gate told me their products are not original, they are replicas and they said they use OEM machinery to make rackets.
The other I could not find any rackets.
But of course I'd be looking to buy Boris Becker and Volkl rackets.
That's what i wanted to buy and if yo know anywhere I can buy at whole sale let me know, you can send me an email too.

If you don't want back door OEM--which is the same product--then your only wholesale option is to contact a rep and become an Ambassador or VIP for the company.
