Nick Kyrgios responds to Boris Becker’s offer of coaching

Nick Kyrgios appears to have rejected Boris Becker as a potential coach in no uncertain terms. Becker, a six-time Grand Slam winner in his own right, worked with Novak Djokovic for three years and guided the Serb to six Grand Slam triumphs and two years as world No 1. The pair parted ways in 2016 and Becker now works as a regular TV tennis pundit but clearly still has one eye on getting back into coaching, with an opportunity to work with such a talented player as Kyrgios one he could not turn down if offered.

‘I would like to coach him!’ Becker told Eurosport.

‘I think that would be cool, such a player who is not coachable. ‘As a good coach, you have to face the challenge to find a way to communicate with your player. Whether I have to do this to me is another question. ‘But if I just want to live out my passion for tennis, he would be the hottest player. However, when the news of his ‘offer’ came out on Twitter, Kyrgios responded with a simple ‘nope’.

Becker believes that if a coach could find a way to channel the Australian’s undeniable talent, then the sky could be the limit. ‘If he has a good day he will beat Federer, he can beat Nadal and beat Djokovic already. He lacks consistency, continuity and discipline,’ Becker added. ‘But it is up to the trainer to teach him that it is worth it. ‘As a player you can live out by winning, even more than before.’

Becker is good. Kyrgios should take him as a coach!

He should at least reconsider Johnny Mac. They seem to be on good terms since the Laver cup.

Nice to see that Nick sat down and gave it some serious thought. His refusal was so polite, tactful and eloquent.

Maybe the fact that Boris is still so close to Djokovic was a factor in his response?

If Boris coached him he'd want Nick to do things like "practice" and "train." And who has time for that?
Boris is pumped at the prospect of taking Nick to #1!

I saw Kyrgios practice with Kokkinakis for 3 hours in 90 degree heat and high humidity a week ago at USO. The guy practices. You don't get to be that good without practice.
I've seen Nick practice for 3 hour sessions at Indian Wells many years, and sometimes in high heat. He doesn't even sit down or drink much during these sessions (and he doesn't joke around). It's a myth that he doesn't practice.

They misquoted Boris, he said he wanted to coach Nick on how to seduce women.

Had to be an ass even with someone that kindly offered his help.

I don't know that Kyrgios earns enough to pay a $600k per year coach at this point.

You're kidding right? I've never heard anyone getting anything near that amount for their services even when generous with bonuses for great results! Becker is definitely in need of $$$ after a devastating divorce to his finances and that "money pit" island estate sucking him dry; no pun intended due to his other issues! Every little bit helps so Becker's definitely putting feelers out there for someone to take him on! He must be desperate to try and influence a whacko like Kyrgios; a true talent, but will definitely underachieve after all's said and done! :sneaky:

Exposure to guys like Boris can make a huge difference. He achieved much at an early age, had a great game and career, but he is a walking pile of mistakes and regrets. He probably helped Novak develop a better perspective on the details and realise that this is it and that there is nothing else out there for him. He would be perfect to help Nick get over all the irrelevant nonsense.

Nick is a very independent guy and like to do stuff when he is good and ready to do it! Nick for being without a coach is doing okay! Nick even has developed a pretty good single handed backhand too. He does not like to be controlled as you might have guess! LOL! The last of the "independents" in pro tour tennis players.

At some point in recent past the idea was that intellectual ability humans have can be increased by teaching/training. So corporations invested time and money in that effort. The idea/effort failed.

If Nick had a succesful coach people might see through his talent facade. He's really keeping up an appearance at this point.
It's possible that's the reason why he turned down the offer.

Anyway I do think Nick is talented but that he's been overrated here simply because he posseses a serve. I was hyped about him in 2014 when he was actually good from the baseline IMO, since 2015 AO he's just a servebot.

Nick will NEVER be #1. Take that to the bank. He is the worst head case in tennis history. He has utter contempt for the sport and everyone in it - including the fans.

Did you catch him after the Johnson match flossing his crotchety with a towel and blowing his nose in it before tossing it to a fan!?

Boris Becker won Wimbledon at 17. Kgyrios didn’t and he will be 25 soon. This mean Kgyrios just want to play and get paid like any office worker do. Plus he’s so cheap to hire any coach. I wonder he pay his older brother cheaply for management, no?

Lol facade? Some of the shots he hits while he's barely even trying, some of the best players could only dream of.
Yes, but that’s not the talent needed for being a serious tennis player. Artistry with a tennis ball isn’t playing tennis.

There are people in the world who can much better juggle a football with any parts of their bodies than Messi or Ronaldo. But no one would say they are more talented footballers than those guys.

Also with Kyrgios sometimes it’s quite forgotten how many times he tries and fails with his trickshots. He just does it much more often than others who actually care about their results.

I live in Canberra, and hit where Nick hits. I've seen him grow up here. When he's home, he is pretty regular at the gym and on court. He often has a small entourage of hitting partners and others on-court with him. He goes hard for a bit, and then leaves in a car you can hear for miles.... it's got grunt.

Yeah it's a matter of statistics.

And many other pro's will hit trick shots on occasion but it will never get so much fuss.

Every ****ing pro over 180cm will be able to hit a half decent tweener.
