Born in the 90s

As of now the only player born in the 90's to win a GS remains Petra Kvitova and (obviously) no one on the men's side. I just looked at the ATP top 10 and there is just 1 players in that list born in the 90's- Raonic, and extending to top 25, another 4- Dimitrov, Goffin, Thiem and Tomic. I guess in 3 or 4 years time one of them has to be the first?

The WTA list (predictably) looks younger, apart from Kvitova herself there is Halep, Woz, Mugu and Pliskova. Any of these? Or maybe somebody like a Bencic?

I agree this is a fairly contrived list, there are plenty of threads about who will be the next "new" person to win a GS, on both sides, but given that it is 25 years since the 90s began, and most current GS winners won their first title before that age- it just seemed strange.

The dominance of the big 4 and Serena on the women's side is why a lot of these young guns haven't had a break through.
Take a look at the French open. Young guns like Kokkinakis stopped by Djokovic, Sock stopped by Nadal, Kyrgios losing to Murray. Tomic stopped by Djokovic at Wimbledon. As for women you've got Serena defeating young guns Muguruza, Watson, Stephens, Keys, Svitolina at grand slams this year.

The sheer dominance of these players stops the players in their tracks. And if we get Djokovic and Murray pulling a Federer and playing til they're 35 we could have this dominance continue til the early 2020s.

Until Djokovic and co drop their form, it'll be a while til we see a young slam cham on the men's side. Honestly when was the last time Djokovic lost to someone young? This year is only Federer, Stan and Karlovic. Oh yeah last time probably Nishikori at the US Open an entire year ago. Talk about dominance.

The WTA is a bit better, despite Serena winning all the slams, she won't go for another 7 years (I think). We got a sneak peek at the future when Serena was injured. Wozniacki got to number 1 despite being younger then 20? She didn't win a slam but dominated other tournaments and always had deep runs. Once Serena goes we will see Bencic, Caro, Muguruza winning slams. In good time

Hope the younger posters take note of this.
