It's too soon to write off Kyrgios. Fed was a bit of a mess in his late teens too. And his forehand wasn't quite such a fearsome weapon; it improved from 2001 through 2003. But Kyrgios already has one championship winning shot and that's his serve. If he gets it together, he could soar well past Coric. Coric is trying to imitate a game that Djoko/Murray have already mastered. Kyrgios is on a different route. The great champions of the game have also been players who changed the game in some way. Lots of people have the right mentality and work ethic at the highest level but it takes something extra to attain greatness. Worst case scenario is Coric remains merely a poor man's Nole and struggles to win big while Kyrgios remains a headcase. I hope THAT doesn't happen.

I sincerely dislike Kyrgios and will never root for him, but he has some serious talent. The way he sometimes casually, and with no apparent effort hits a great shot is quite impressive. His game seems to be hard to read as well. Coric is pretty much a Djokovic / Murray clone - which is not a bad thing either:)

IMO, Kyrgios needs a major reboot and without that (he is not getting any "tennis-correct" behavioural support from his parents and being a tight-knit family his parents and siblings need a major reboot as well to initiate/support a different mindset) he is going nowhere. And I mean nowhere. These people are bogans.

And seriously...

World No.1?

Sweet image. I'm going to go all grandad for a minute here and suggest that gangsta culture is not a great starting place for young minds. I see young Nick is sporting his shiny Wu Tang Clan top. Let's look at some of the less grim lyrics these lads have composed. Now I understand that this is a cry of impotent rage from a disenfranchised group and the pain and anger probably comes from a place that is very real. However, coming from the sleepiest middle class snooze of a city in Australia and having gone to a fancy private school down there, I'm going to suggest that Nick is like a whole bunch of clowns I see trying to appropriate 'street' attitude and demeanor in order to gain some unearned credibility. Just like he might go down to the mall and buy an outfit off the rack - here is a pre-fabricated identity that he's 'trying on for size'. When I see him sloping onto court with his Dr Dre headphones and up from mean streets glare my toes nearly snap off in embarrassment. I like some rap. But I'm not going out pretending to be Eminem or someone. Hmmm... even to myself I sound like I'm a hundred.

Up from the 36 Chambers...
Heheh.. it's the Ghost..*Face*..*Killah* Hehheheh
Wu-Tang
Wu-Tang Killa Beez, we on a swarm
Wu-Tang Killa Beez, we on a swarm
Wu-Tang Killa Beez, we on a swarm
Wu-Tang Killa Beez, we on a swarm

The RZA, the GZA, Ol' Dirty *******, Inspectah Deck, U-God
Ghostface Killah, the Method Man, Raekwon the Chef, the Masta Killa

Raw Desire, LeVon, Power Cipher
12 O'Clock, 60 Second Assassin, the 4th Disciple
The Brown Hornet
K.D. the Down Low Recka, Shyheim AKA The Rugged Child
Due-Due Lilz, Mista Hezekiah -- better known as the Yin and the Yang
The True Master, Isham, DJ Skane, The True Robocop comin thru
Scientific Shabazz, my motherfuckin man Wise the Civilized
The Shaolin Soldiers
Daddy-O and Poppa Ron comin down from the motherfuckin South end of things
Killa beez all over your ****in planet
Thirty-six chambers of death
Three-hundred and sixty degrees of perfected styles
Choppin off your motherfuckin dome...
...piece, and every ****in borough
Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Queens, Staten Island
The motherfuckin Bronx,
Killa Beez....

['Shaolin and Wu-Tang' sample]
The sword? C'mon, give him the sword

[Hook: GZA]
Clan in the front, let your feet stomp
Niggas on the left, rag **** to death
Hoods on the right, wild for the night
Punks in the back, come on in the track to what

[Verse 1: GZA]
The Wu is coming through, the outcome is critical
****ing with my style is sort of like a miracle
On 34th Street, in the Square of Herald

I gamed Ella, the ***** caught a Fitz like Gerald-
-ine Ferraro, who's full of sorrow cause the ho didn't win

But the sun will still come out tomorrow
And shine shine shine like gold mine

Here comes the drunk monk, with a quart of Ballantine
Pass the bone, kid pass the bone
Let's get on this mission like Indiana Jones, the GZA
One who just represent the Wu-Tang clique
With the game and soul of an old school flick
Like the Mack and Dolemite, who both did bids
Claudine went to Cooley High and had mad kids
So stop, the life you save may be your motherfucking own
I'll hang your ass with this microphone
Make way for the merge of traffic
Wu-Tang's coming through with full metal jackets
God squad that's mad hard to serve
Come fronting hard, then Bernhard Goetz what he deserves

[Hook]

[Verse 2: GZA]
No response while I bomb that ass
You ain't ****, your wack ass town had you gassed
Egos is something the Wu-Tang crush

Souped up niggas on a stage get rushed
I don't give a goddamn on the shows you did
How many rhymes you got or who knows you kid

Cause I don't know you therefore show me what you know
I come sharp as a blade and I cut you slow

You become so Pat as my style increases
What's that in your pants ahh human feces
Throw your ****ty drawers in the hamper
Next time come strapped with a ****ing Pamper

How you sound B? You're better off a quitter
I'm on the mound, G, and it's a no-hitter
And my DJ the catcher, he's my man
In a way he's the one who devised the plan
He throws the signs I hook up the beats with clout
I throw the rhymes to the mic and I strike em out

So it really doesn't matter on how you intrigue
You can't **** with those in the major leagues

Yes, Kyrgios has the better game by far. However, he is annoying and spoiled. He won't have much success if he doesn't change his personality from entertainer to sportsman. I think Coric will have the better career because Kyrgios is injured quite often. If he played more he would be injured even more often. Coric is quite tough, but is lacking killer shots, he might develop these.

Overall I hope Thiem will be the most successful of all rising stars ;)

Couldn't agree more.

Thiem is also by far my favourite:)

Spot on. A gangsta in a gentleman's sport...does not fit. However, he has talent and if you look closely for the physical similarities (agility, movements, bounce he gets etc.) you may see a version of Usain Bolt in him. Now, if he had a polished mind or an intention to undertake a serious "lobotomy" these similarities would be not only physically obvious but could be correctly employed and implemented into his overall persona and game.

Now this is a rivalry which could develop into the Hamilton-Rosberg rivalry of tennis. Kyrgios has made it clear he doesn't accept the trash talk from Coric.

Sounds interesting, I would've thought it be the other way around? I don't know much about Coric.

Good post. My thoughts exactly.
