Your comments are strong on that thread, but that thread does not have a serious tone. The poll on this sets the tone. Vote and comment. When Genie returns to the court (tennis) the results may be put here as this will involve live matches (I hope).

Bouchard gets new sponsors: Headache pills like Bayer, Advill, etc...; emergency response devices - "I fell and cannot get up". Spokesperson for law firm that specialized in negligence.

The floor had been treated with a chemical, it was left open, there was no light on and there was no Do Not Enter sigh. She had every right to be there because the night matches were just finishing, Good luck in the USTA winning this law suit. This is not the first time the USTA has been sued, probably by some lower ranked players .

This event has nothing to do with driving a car. Get your facts about what lead to the fall and concussion straight.

Did Bouchard not carry a high end smartphone with built-in flashlight app?

Most ladies carry their smartphones during the interview after the match with them.

This is stupid. Only in the USA. Where I grew up, when I grew up, if one was slipping on a wet floor it was one's fault. "What? You didn't see that the floor was wet? Next time check, stupid! Oh, the lights were off? Then turn them on..."
It's like crossing the highway, getting hit by a car and then go to court as there were no signs of "do not cross, cars at high speed".
Bouchard just wants to squeeze more money from some people.

This was not stepping out of the tub. This was supposed to be a professionally managed room at a professional sporting event. It is the responsibility of those in charge to make sure that of all physical risks players take while on court--they should need to fear or risk injury off the field of competition. Either the USTA is a professional organization (and there's doubt about that and its treatment of players) or it is not.

Has there been a published discovery of what circumstances led up to the fall? Or just what someone says happened to her?

Unfortunately ,a wet slippery floor is negligent , open your eyes and see stores block isles off when wet and or post signs floor is wet, if they did neither, usta has a problem, out of court settle it and back to tennis, usually in negligence cases, future medical bills, pain and suffering and loss of wages are the feature.

Cheers

Apparently, they did not, since Genie did not see any signs, those attending to her did not mention any signs and no one told her that she should avoid any section of the floor. The USTA needs to be punished for this.

The further Bouchard extends this, the bigger a joke she is. She was not cautious. Time to blame herself and not the USTA.

Water proof phones are rare.
So Genie was ready for icing and fell in dark. That makes it worse. Too bad details have to be kept under control. I wonder if any witnesses (other than Kyrgios.. who was not their, except in his dreams.)

As 3Fees pointed out, even stores place signs and block off aisles where the floor is wet. The USTA is 100% responsible for this travesty, and some should not allow their obsessive hatred of Bouchard rob them of the USTA's negligence in maintaining a safe environment for the very people who keep them in business.

From what I read, they left some special cleaning product on the floor that was supposed to stay overnight without being stepped on. But Bouchard was playing a doubles match late. There was no sign and they didn't lock the room. That seems like gross negligence. I can understand suing over it. There was no way Bouchard could have known.

Is that what happened? I had presumed she slipped on a wet spot on the floor likely from someone emerging from the shower. Locker rooms usually have wet spots somewhere, but if it was a wet or slippery cleaning product left unmarked then a suit might stand.

Exactly. That's what the article I read said. Genie's people thought they had a strong case because of that. (Which of course they wouldn't have had if it had just been a bit of wetness). That article made me understand the rationale for a lawsuit. Unfortunately, people tend to jump to conclusions without knowing all the facts.

The USTA has no ground for a defense; the player is supposed to be protected from avoidable harm; it was not as if Genie spilled something on the floor, forgot it, then walked on it, slipping. That did not happen, so the USTA needs to suffer.
