I haven't really seen anyone talk about this, but Eugenie Bouchard has already made her second slam semifinal in only her 6th appearance in a grand slam.

I've looked through the stats of most of the greats in the open era and the only players that I have found to achieve this are Chris Evert, Tracy Austin, Monica Seles, and Jennifer Capriati. That's pretty good company to be in. Is this just a fluke? Or does it show that right off the bat, she has the mental toughness required to make deep runs in slams? Is she destined to win a slam?

Sabatini did this as well. And before she turned 17.

Bouchard is much older(20) than all those others were when they made their 2nd semi so I wouldn't read much into it. Seles won 8 majors before she turned 20. Evert won 2.

Dang, impressive knowing about sabatini..... Didn't think to check her.

And I get that she's older, but she still has very little experience on the WTA level at this point. It doesn't change the fact that it was her 6th appearance in a major and only her 5th appearance in the main draw.

The game is OLDER...you only have to look to #1 and #2 in the World being over 30 Bro...an age when most of who you mentioned were in the twilight of their careers or done.

Combine that with the games modern restrictions on amount of play allowed for under age 18 players, and the added value of POWER/STRENGTH which comes at a later age for woman...makes your point moot. Second full year on tour...second slam semi in a row...future slam winner...hands down. This from a Masha fan...who put's her chances of winning at 50/50!!!

It actually worked out for Bouchard because of the draw . Other younger players had to meet tough senior players, while bouchard got away with comparatively easier players.

1) Australian Open
Young players like Konjuh and Bencic had to meet Li Na in their first and second rounds. Barty had to meet serena williams. Bouchard enjoyed and
had none of the senior players to meet until QF against a tired Ivanovic after defeating serena williams.

2)French Open.
Look at the other young player Muguruza. She had play against serena williams and maria sharapova. She has beaten serena already and lost it by a small margin in the QF. While Bouchard met Kerber and Navarro to reach semis. If you swap the draws of Muguruza and Bouchard, Muguruza would have been in Semis and Bouchard would have lost it in the 2nd round.

Everyone gets their fair share of easy draws, not everyone makes the semis....

It is tough to gauge Eugenie at this stage. She's not consistently challenging the likes of Vika, Maria, Serena and Li. However, the confidence Eugenie is gaining from these deep runs will help her gain momentum going forward. At least it should.

I'm reminded of her compatriot, Carling Bassett-Saguso for some odd reason. Will have to pray about that one.
