Brain Tumor and Tennis

I just saw this thread... wish you all the best in your recovery, @Shroud. Glad to see you back in action so fast!
I just saw the thread too and i'm sorry Shroud, i wish you all the best and a fast recovery so you can fully enjoy life and tennis again!!!
Speedy recovery! You are a trooper!
OMG I'm so sorry to hear this. So happy for you that you have recovered and started playing tennis again! I play too much tennis lately but I don't mind it. Keep playing, brother!
Incredible and so sorry. Great to see your recovery.
You all are great. Thank you so much for the well wishes. Its a great feeling that its not just Sureshs rooting me on! I still have a ways to go but it is trending for the better and one day I will feel like I haven't skipped a beat. Keep playing my friends!

Wishing you a full and 100 % recovery in the future. Good Lord will guide you in the right direction in this recovery and comeback.

Hey @Shroud did you see my post asking if the doctors found any "cause?" If there is one, tell me so I can avoid it.

yeah man. I had a followup last week and the brain surgeon said that it was caused by bad luck. he didn't think any kind of activity or lifestyle choice was to blame. Me, I suspect it was my going from cooking most every day to ordering in everyday. But medicine is not exactly a big proponent of lifestyle things or maybe it really is dumb luck. I was going to add that my exhibit A for having great luck was going to be your tennis vid....

Headache?

If you see new threads started by @Shroud about the virtues of racquets using large, L7, triangle-shaped grips, do not be alarmed. He will probably go back to square grips and 100/15 lbs tensioned racquets again soon (main/cross).
He He. I played last weekend with a sub 300g racquet strung with full poly (4g). About 90g lighter than the week before. I just added another grip and 5g of lead at 12pm so its now 300g. Hitting partner said I was hitting with so much rhs it was pushing him back and taking time...but I didn't notice any extra spin but he disagreed. Also we played 3 games of 21 and I won 2 out of 3! So I will stick with this setup and see.

Also part of this tumor thing and room redo had my stringer getting relocated to my buddies house so I won't be able to string my kevlar/4g setup and the local stringers won't do it right or at the high tensions so learning to hit with the poly is probably best for the short term.

Hadn't seen this thread till now but wishing @Shroud good health and full recovery ... the tennis post op is awesome. Seen your vids before and the form is still really good. Honestly say find your strength and determination inspiring.

Awesome, thanks 3! I am just happy it is turning out great and while stamina is a challenge, its getting better. Now if I could just sleep...

@Shroud … if you can’t sleep you would probably enjoy the sleepless gang. Some of my favorite peeps roam around the cabin there, and they aren’t contagious. I sleep great. ;)
hmm. What's up dude? Never hear of the sleepless gang. Is that a band? Also was thinking of calling @sureshs to ask him about his day. Thought that would help me sleep but realized it would just make me hungry...

lol … yep … agree … talking to Sureshs might end your sleep forever. He needs us … our jokes are good, his are bad.

lol … you liked @3loudboys original sleepless post #1. Judging by their knowledge of music … probably a band … at a minimum my band of brothers (and one scary sister  … she claims daughter, but I don’t remember her mother)

One thing I noticed with this post tumor world is that I often do things and then manage to remember them. UGH. Will check out the thread I checked out....

Sureshs might be a great way to sleep forever.

See … your jokes are weak and recycled with no new material. No worries your friends are here to help. I am your teammate … you are the gaseous one and I am the funny one. I represent us at parties, and you represent us at PF Chang’s.

Shroud … are you sure you want to recover memory? :-D (y)

I played Pickleball on Friday (just 1g ame, which we won 11-1!). I was playing after 2 weeks. Shows you how weak Pickleball is as a sport.
Your strengths on the tennis court would make you a pickleball natural, so it is not surprising to see you having early success in competition.

This was at a different rec center. In the one I usually play at, the competition is more tough, as there are many retired (g)oldies who play there every day.

I know Pickle will turn out like tennis - I will saturate at the intermediate level forever. The difference is that tennis needs constant play to maintain the level, while Pickle needs only less than an hour every week or once in 2 weeks to stay in touch.

It requires more per week if you buy a new paddle every week

I’ve only seen better observation skills than you once:

I have partnered with Sureshs to victories on multiple occasions. To win in doubles, it is important to carefully observe and process your partner’s strengths, so that you can build a successful team strategy around them.

Sureshs is very comfortable on a tennis court standing inside the service box when balls come aimed at his knees, he is good at redirecting them without popping them up too high.

His strokes are also very repeatable. While they do not resemble pro strokes, they can reliably produce the same ball in the same situation as long as the incoming ball does not have too much skin or power to exceed his shot tolerance.

He also has moderately flat strokes that translate well to pickleball where steep attack angles are not rewarded.

This is the kind of detailed reporting that exceeds all expectations.

Hopefully he has broke the habit of standing in the box on the pickleball court.

bolded? My guess is your observation skills reached their limit here. ;)

I have not been fortunate enough to play pickleball with a textured paddle. I can only speak to playing with smooth slippery surfaces.

There is no "box" in the pickleball court. it is called kitchen.

where do you put the lead on a paddle??

Under the electrical tape 8-B

I find the balance point (all paddles are head heavy) … and then add lead strip from that point toward throat. Get static weight increase and any twist weight improvement without adding swingweight. In decent level pball doubles … you win or lose at the kitchen (fast hands at kitchen matter more than baseline drives. Very hard for tennis player to accept … we want to crush that wiffle from baseline. Crushing can be useful in singles but I have limited myself to doubles. Surprisingly … Pickleball singles is an aerobic biaaaatch.

Carbon surface (which actually feels smooth to the touch) is in your pball future … unless it’s something better when you arrive to your pball years. I can literally hit topspin lobs from baseline now … with my graphite could get moderate ts. They were using spray on grit which worked on graphite, but wore off quickly and say goodbye to topspin.

I realized my elbow and shoulder were getting sore and I was hitting everything out anyhow, so I switched back to the racquet in the sig. All was well and I won the last game of 21 in a route, 21-8. I was a different player and could hit out. Arm/ shoulder felt better too.

Said another way, try adding 72g to your racquet if you want to play better and save your body :)

Now the problem will be getting that racquet strung with Kev/ 4g at 86/86. Doubt local stringers will do it. My stringer is at my buddies house so maybe I just need to go there and string it when I need to. Another puzzle for the brain to figure out.
