Brain Tumor and Tennis

Someone should tighten the upper hinge on that door.

I suspect that the pickleballers in my area would just ignore the sign.
I bet. I saw a youtube vid where the Pickleballers were trying to ruin kids tennis lessons and take the court away from them. Grown men trying to play Karen to steal the court. Sad. @ByeByePoly needs to do some decency lessons for his new friends.

Hey … I am not responsible for rude outdoor pickleball players or part of any organized pickleball religion, other than paddle nerdom. ;)

I only play pickleball indoors where there are no tennis courts, and tennis players are the invaders. We were accepted as pickleball family early … but were taught humility for several months. It was like … “look … some tennis players ... let’s feast”. They don’t say that anymore.

My whole experience makes me appreciate the little things even more than before:

Around here … if that was a sign at city park tennis courts it should say:

”Do not put pickleball lines on the court, but you can paint the tennis lines back on and trim the weeds from the cracks”

Brain seems to be doing ok and I feel like I am recovering. Sleep remains an issue but lately I seem to be getting it even if my waking and rising times are off.

FWIW my recent forehand work is paying off. I won a set yesterday! Sure I lost the 1st 2-6, but the 2nd was 6-1. Lots of good forehands and some points I even looked over at the opponent and saw where my ball should go and hit it there!! LOL. I know that is what EVERYONE does, but for me it was something of a first. When I was playing leagues I once had an opponent, and it wasn't till he served that I realized he was left handed!! That is how oblivious I can be.

Arrived 30 min early and hit some warmup serves. Kicker was going 5-6ft high and actually bouncing to the right. Then I played the match and lmao none of that kick was happening. WTF? Crazy how that happens. Anyhow it was great to get out there.

Met with the finance guy and am tapping into some investments to get out of the hole I dug by basically not making any dough for a year or more because of the tumor, and the medical bills piling on. Good thing is that I actually had some investments! Looking on the bright side...

Hope everyone is doing well and enjoying life.

I had my SSDI interview/application yesterday. It took 35 minutes. They took my personal information, work history, and medical history in terms of major events and hospitals (I had treatment at five hospitals). Things in my favor: I haven't worked in 4 years and my work history is 1974-2020 so I have a long work history. I see so many stories of people getting denied so I'm not that optimistic and it's expected to take 7-8 months before I hear a judgement. First thing is that the vacuum up all of me medical records. Part of the Affordable Care Act was the requirement for hospitals to implement Electronic Health Records which means that governments, health insurance companies, etc. can vacuum this stuff up if you give them permission.

FINALLY won a set. Got blown out 2-6 but came back to win the 2nd 6-1. Then we played a few days later. I won 6-3. Def trending, but man I have lost sooo much heat tolerance and endurance. Was so out of breath in both the winning sets. Its sad because I used to love the heat and enjoy sweating. But these days I get gassed easily.

Is there any trick to getting back into cardio shape? Or is it just the hard work of cardio and playing alot?

Brain seems ok but I still occasionally get tired and need a mental break. Been trying to sleep better and that seems like a hard thing for me and alot of the people I know.

@movdqa hope you get your benefits.

Running helps cardio a lot.

I have an injured finger and haven't hit in two months. But at least I can run.

SSDI is 3% processed. This is going to take a while.

update. After more than a year the gov said I wasn't disabled so no help there. Just passed my Network+ certification test and am working on a few more to get some IT gig. Guess the brain works after all. Going on vacation so no replies on my end. Be well everyone and as my highschool tennis coach always said, "think orange juice"........"concentrate out there". :(

I was denied and didn't go for an appeal as I was drained for a few months, due to the disability.

What I've heard, from hanging out at r/SSDI, is that disability benefits are actually difficult to get unless you're at death's door. The expectation is that you get denied and then have to apply again but the wait for an initial result is quite long. Six months (in my case) but I've heard of people that it took a lot longer. It depends on how busy your local office is SSA has been underfunded for decades which is why service is often so slow in some places.

Glad that you have other options. Retraining is often quite difficult at our ages.

Congrats on the brain brother … my condolences on your/our government. Enjoy your vacation … by the time you get back there will be no government. (just a joke … probably … ;) )
