Coach Whitlinger could take over and take them to #1 in the worldif this is true..UVA is killed...cannot imagine they can hold onto this Standards they had under boland
USTA is a big opportunity... and that is a heck of a facility in Orlando. I don't blame him, although his recruiting skills won't be as beneficial as they are at the college level. Why would he leave? I surmise he knows something about the future of Olympic sports at the college level.

how much will the new coach make ?This is clearly a behind the scenes deal with Tony Bresky. They are playing the fans like fools. Really hate to see stuff like this happen. But at the same time it'll be good for college tennis. The Virginia dynasty has not been positive for the sport as a whole.
He said that the USTA position is, in his opinion, the highest position a tennis coach can aspire to in the country.
Also, his parents recently relocated to Florida, so there are family considerations factoring into his decision.
James Blake would have been the BEST possible option. but they didn't pursue him, dont' know whyThis is clearly a behind the scenes deal with Tony Bresky. They are playing the fans like fools. I'll disagree here-- seeing teams go from irrelevant to a powerhouse is definitely helpful to programs with aspirations of improving. It'd be a different story if they won 8 years in a row, or never had close matches, but that's not the case here. This is clearly a behind the scenes deal with Tony Bresky. Not too many college coaches offering their congratulations so far. Very telling.
Now he is leaving his position at the USTA

Over/Under/Push 2 national titles for Boland at Baylor from now until 2025? (assuming he stays that many years)
Damn, Boland choosing to join one of the shadiest athletic programs in the country
I think he did not like the USTA job. He is not going to say that publicly, but it was a constant travel job that wears on you.Boland chasin' dollars for sure.
Has Boland ever made statements that criticized foreign players on rosters? Anything that would obligate him to pursue only American players, or are you just being stupid?Hahahahaha to all the UVa fans. I can't wait to see Boland build Baylor up to a contender with only US players. Remember now UVa diehards Boland did it at UVa with Americans so lets him do the same at Baylor. He won't care about winning too much he'll really want to develop US talent certainly. When he wins his first NCAA title at Baylor nothing less then 5 US players is acceptable.

That could be. Still, I find it hard believe that travel was the sole reason for leaving. As jobs go, I know from experience that there has to be something more enticing than simply not getting to travel as much.
If Baylor said, "We'll match your USTA salary and you don't have to travel 75% of the time", there's definitely a value in that. But honestly, I think they'd have to offer some sort of financial gain to come to Waco.
He probably just realized that he enjoyed coaching college tennis a lot more than he enjoyed his USTA job. And why waste time at an an unenjoyable position when a big job like Baylor is open?

Maybe he wants to be on fixer upper?
Joey Scrivano and family made the show! Gotta believe this high profile coach is next! LOLWow! Just saw this....Scratching my head, I have so many questions. I wonder how much of the USTA bureaucracy played a part in this. Boland is definitely a American Player development guy, and a very organized coach. I like seeing him in the coaching ranks, and I bet the USTA job was too much of towing the company line and current mediocrity. Some of you may be closer to this though and know more, please chime in.
Baylor though? I mean its a nice school and all with great facilities, but shady athletic department for sure. Maybe he wants to be on fixer upper?
If you travel all the time, you don't see your family, anyway. One of the UVa fans ran into Boland last August and Coach told him, "I have not slept in my own bed in a month." How much do you suppose he saw his parents under those circumstances?Sorry..I was in the middle of an edit when you were replying. One of the highlights of the USTA position Boland noted was being closer to his overall family. I can't see someone prioritizing that kind of move over family without some sort of financial bump up.
