Bring back BO5 for business end of Masters, WTF.

I'm not even sure about WTF. Again just punishment after one of the players has played both Friday and Saturday.

Just watched some Coria v Nadal clay masters finals and a whole lot of tanking going on as well.:sneaky:

Given the pace of most of the courts now, you are probably correct. On edit: I still think WTF should go back to BO5 for the final. 1500 points .
Its not the courts, its the strings.;)
Some masters finalists names to chew on:
2007 Gonzalez, Nalbandian, Blake
2006 Ferrero, Blake
2005 Hewitt, Coria
2004 Nalbandian, Coria, Hewitt, Safin

That's quite the laundry list of the lame with stunted careers. Not sure we want to go back to Vacuum Era finals with Poly once again.

Wasn't long ago that WTF and M1000 finals were best of 5. No damage done. Believe Rafa may even have won a CY Clay Court Grand Slam under such conditions. Sampras, Chang, Courier, Rios, Federer (and possibly Nole) did the Sunshine Double under such rules. Federer, Sampras, Lendl, Becker all ATP YEC under five-set format. Agassi, Rafter and Roddick did Rogers/Cincy back to back under such rules. And Patrick and Andy went on to win USO anyway, and Andre made final and played an excellent match, simply losing to Sampras on merit.

Michael Stitch 1993: Super Nine win in five-set final at Stockholm, followed immediately by YEC win in five-set final format; followed a couple weeks later by a five-set loss in final of GSC (9-11 in the fifth set). Oh, and I believe Michael managed to squeeze in a Challenge Round hat-trick bet. YEC and GSC, or right after GSC.

Solution: have a Friday off and start the tournament on a Saturday than Sunday.

Did Nalbandian win the Indoor Double (Madrid/Paris) under such rules?

Through the 1980 at least USO played SF on Saturday and Final on Sunday.

Take a look at the 1957 Tournament of Champions - 6 five-set matches over seven days.

The tournament can be tweaked to give the extra rest. The problem is ATP and Federer crowding in extra money-making events, making the schedule too compact and still forcing top players to compete at all M1000 unless verifiable injury/illness or older than 30 years of age. It is $,$.$. I bought a near-$500 ticket to IW SF this year. Good, but rather short match bet. Thiem and Raonic; then Nadal last-minute pull out (because, by his own admission, although he could play, he did not want to hurt his prospect for the Clay Season (Aaron Rogers - "oh, I could play, but that game against 49ers in two weeks is more important to me"). [Women's doubles semifinal was good]. ATP wants to charge more for less. That is it.

You can host a semi-final with bo3 then final of bo5. Just take a day off on Friday and problem solved.
Players will never agree to that nonsense. They'll want full day off before five set match. Even qualifiers at majors get better treatment than what your asking.:sneaky:
