Why are you only coming to this conclusion now and getting so upset about it? If you have been a long time Federer fan you can see that he has declined and is no longer consistent. Better to accept it and then if he happens to win something, it will be a nice surprise. You can't bet on Federer to win slams any longer or even make it past the QF's IMO.

You are right. His confidence has been shattered to the very extreme. And losing in a final of a 250 against his old contemporary won't help either.
Of course I can see that he has declined, but keep in mind that Federer won Wimbledon 2012 and I still vividly recollect all the times in 2011 when you said he would never win another major title in his career. I'm not expecting Federer to win 3/4 slams in 2014, but I was hoping for him to make a run at some of these slams. You make it seem like Federer has been hopeless for a decade. Last year at the AO, he was in form and only went down in 5 to Murray in a brutal match that pretty much gave Djokovic an enormous physical edge over Murray in the final. That was less than an year ago.
Yeah, I think he should keep the racquet. His serves and forehands looked a bit nastier to me this week. Its not the racquet anyway. He just doesn't win big points.

Yep, my thoughts exactly. I keep hoping for some kind of improvement but it's all very hit or miss. About the press conferences: it's possible that he's actually annoyed and feels like we want him to feel but he doesn't want to appear depressed during his press conferences all the time so he just acts like he doesn't care.

Which is so strange because I never had the feeling that Federer had a lot of trouble dealing with Hewitt's serve and could always get deep into Hewitt's service games pretty easily.

Well, lets be honest. The guy gets asked the same stupid questions every freaking day. That's his standard response now because it has to be. He could just be honest and say "I sucked out there today," but then that would be his standard response every time he lost and we (the fans) would find something to complain about then too.
