Defeat earlier today for Liam Broady in the first round of qualifying for the French Open, where he lost a close match to the Czech Zdenek Kolar, 7-6(8), 7-6(4). That leaves Jay Clarke as the only British player left in the qualifying event; he plays Bernard Tomic in the second round tomorrow.

Dan Evans had a straight sets win over Max Purcell at the indoor Challenger tournament in Loughborough, Leicestershire; the score was 6-4, 6-2.

An excellent win for Cameron Norrie earlier today in the quarter-finals of the tournament in Lyon. He beat world no. 10 John Isner in straight sets, 7-6(1), 6-4, and will play Gilles Simon for a place in the final tomorrow. With his victory today Norrie has a new provisional singles ranking of no. 85, his first appearance in the Top 100. He has also been awarded a wildcard into the singles event at next month's Queen's Club tournament.

Cameron Norrie had a very poor start to his semi-final against Gilles Simon in Lyon, losing the first set 1-6. Norrie played much better in the second set, even having two sets points, neither of which he was able to convert as Simon ran out the winner, 6-1, 7-6(6).

At the Loughborough Challenger, James Ward reached the semi-finals. He was leading former world no. 43 Teimuraz Gabashvili 7-5, 5-4, when the Russian retired. In the semi-finals Ward will face the unheralded Austrian player Maximilian Neuchrist.

James Ward made it to the final of the Loughborough Challenger but was beaten there earlier today by the Japanese player Hiroki Miroya, 6-2, 7-5.

Tomorrow, Cameron Norrie plays his first-round singles match at the French Open, against the German Peter Gojowczyk, who was runner-up in the Geneva tournament at the weekend. Their match is scheduled second on Court no. 6.

Mixed fortunes for the English players in first-round action at the Nottingham Challenger earlier today. 17-year-old George Loffhagen was beaten, 3-6, 6-1, 6-3, by the Canadian player Peter Polansky.

In a contest between two English players, Alexander Ward won a long, primarily baseline battle against the former Wimbledon boys' singles finalist Liam Broady, 2-6, 6-4, 7-6(7). Ward double-faulted to go 6-7, match point down in the tiebreak, but Broady played too short on the next point and made errors on the two after that to lose.

Murray protégé Aidan McHugh also lost 3&4 to Bublik.

Among the British men, Jay Clarke and Liam Broady have so far been awarded wildcards into the main draw at Wimbledon. Five British men, including Aidan McHugh and James Ward, have also been awarded wildcards into next week's Wimbledon qualifying event at Roehampton.

Despite his recent run of good form, the All England Club at Wimbledon has "on principle" decided not to award Dan Evans any sort of wildcard. He will now have to take part in this week's Wimbledon pre-qualifying event.

Four British players feature in the men's singles draw at next week's Eastbourne tournament. As the no. 2 seed, Kyle Edmund has a bye in the first round and will play the winner of a match between two wildcards, one of whom is Andy Murray (the other one is Stan Wawrinka).

Cameron Norrie is the beneficiary of the third and final wildcard and takes on the German qualifier Daniel Brands in the first round. The winner of that match will meet the winner of the match between lucky loser Jay Clarke and the American Ryan Harrison.

There will be an all-British final at this year's Eastbourne tournament following the success of the doubles pairings Luke Bambridge/Jonny O'Mara and Ken Skupski/Neal Skupski, who earlier today won their semi-finals in straight sets.

At the Wimbledon qualifying tournament in Roehampton, the last British man remaining in the singles, James Ward, lost in four sets to the 22-year-old French player Benjamin Bonzi.

A British player could well be part of the pairing that wins the men's doubles title at this year's Wimbledon. With the semi-finals of this event due to take place tomorrow the line-up consists of the 26-year-old Londoner Joe Salisbury and his partner, the 34-year-old Dane Frederik Nielsen, who won the same event in 2012 with another British player, Jonathan Marray.

Salisbury and Nielsen take on Raven Klaasen of South Africa and the New Zealander Michael Venus in one semi-final. The latter pair are seeded no. 13 and are the only seeded pair to survive to this stage of the men's doubles event this year.

The other semi-final pits another Londoner, 32-year-old Dominic Inglot, and his partner, the Croatian Franko Škugor, against the Americans Jack Sock and Mike Bryan. Sock won this title in 2014 with the Canadian Vasek Posposil, while Mike Bryan has won it three times with his twin brother, Bob, most recently in 2013. (Bob Bryan is currently recovering from an injury.)

Although the American pair are unseeded, it might not be an exaggeration to say that, given their pedigree, they are now the favourites to win the men's doubles title. But in a tournament of many upsets, nothing is certain.

Both British men lost in the SF dubs matches but both Jamie Murray and Jay Clarke are still alive in the mixed dubs. Clarke is paired with fellow Brit Harriet Dart.

Unfortunately Harriet Dart and Jay Clarke have to play Viktoria Azarenka and Jamie Murray in one semi-final of the mixed doubles event at Wimbledon, but at least that guarantees one British player in the final.

The name Harriet makes me think of the funniest movie ever made, So I married an axe murderer.

Well, from the score alone, it looks as if it was a question of two teachers giving two pupils a lesson in the J. Murray/Azarenka vs Clarke/Dart mixed doubles semi-final. The former pair won very easily in the end, 6-2, 6-2, and will play the Austrian/American pair of Alexander Peya and Nicole Melichar in Sunday's final.

In addition to Jack Draper in the boys' singles final, two British players could also feature in the boys' doubles final at this year's Wimbledon. The wildcard pairing of James Story and Harry Wendelken have reached the semi-final stage where, later today, they'll face another unseeded pair, Yanki Erel of Turkey and Otto Virtanen of Finland, for a place in the final.

I saw Story and Wendelken beat Aiden McHugh and his partner. McHugh has gotten a lot of hype especially with the Andy Murray connection, I hope he develops.

Haven't seen Aidan McHugh play yet. He probably underperformed at Wimbledon. Story and Wendelken lost their doubles semi-final in two tiebreaks.

Jack Draper is scheduled to take on the top seed, Tseng Chun-hsin, on Court no. 1 at 1pm tomorrow. Hopefully Draper will have something left in the tank after yesterday's marathon match.

Jack Draper lost a close boys' singles final in three sets, 6-1, 6-7(2), 6-4. After a poor start he worked his way into the second set and dominated the tiebreak at the end of it. He held serve in the first game of the second set and had three break points on Chun-hsin Tseng's serve in the next game but couldn't convert. He continued to battle gamely in the end, but it wasn't to be. Still, Draper has a lot of talent and potential, and it would be surprising if he didn't somehow make his mark on the sport in the future.

He has the potential, too many British players get too much too soon and fail to fulfill. I hope for the best with him.

A good win earlier today for Cameron Norrie over Malek Jaziri at the Atlanta tournament: 7-5, 6-0. Norrie next plays the no. 6 seed, Jeremy Chardy, for a place in the quarter-finals.
