Bud Collins is ********..again

He has no knoledge whatsoever of tennis. For as long as hes been commentating, you would think he would atleast be able to pronounce players names correctly. Such as Berdych. And yesterday he was talking about Andy Murrays run in the 08 US open. He said he had a great run until he lost in the Semifinals.. I mean common...Bud collins should just die.... and no am i not a troll...
 
Bud is one of the most historic figures ever in the sport. To say he has no knowledge on the game is one of the most ridiculous statements ever. I agree he is now past his prime as an announcer/analyst, and since the mid 90s seems to have had a chip on his shoulder which has affected his objectivity/quality of work (probably since NBC were treating him so miserably) but he is still an absolute icon of tennis.

Bud is all right, I like how he seems to be enjoying himself.

I think he goes out of his way to pronounce the players' names as they are ACTUALLY pronounced.

A couple of examples:

It's not miss-KEE-na, it's MISH-kih-na.

It's not sa-FEE-na, it's SA-fin-ah.

I'm sure the players have just come to accept us "americans" butchering their names. Bud Collins has too much respect for players and as a journalist to screw them up.
 
Are we sure Bud was mispronouncing Berdych's name? Maybe he was the only one pronouncing it correctly. I don't know. I'm not Czech.

Have some modesty. If a man of Bud's knowledge and experience is doing something differently than yourself, shouldn't this give you some pause? Maybe, just maybe, he's right and you're wrong?

You know, being that he's Bud Collins and you're some hick from Frogballs, Arkansas.

yea this guy blows. im watching the dent match and during the match he even calls himself out about how he got all these things wrong about his picks to win and matches. doesnt do anything but take up space. get out and just let us listen to tennis.

I agree with that statement.

The Former Pro Section, Tennis Tips and Instruction, Equipment section, Fitness, etc. know more than the General Forums which is totally filled with trolls, people with biased opinions, etc.



And Collins still has more knowledge than an Internet Message board dedicated to Tennis. I guarantee you that.
 
Sorry to disturb you kids, but Bud Collins is the most noted tennis historian of all time. He may seem like an senile idiot to you, but at least he wrote "The Encyclopedia of Tennis"---I guess you didn't know that. You can get an earlier version of that great book, 600+ pages, full of tennis facts, from amazon.com, for 1 cent, used, plus shipping. Or you can spend 18 bucks new.

What does any of this have to do with Tennis knowledge? Collins isn't a freakin' linguist, is he?

Sure, Collins has declined as a Tennis analyst, but hell they're still paying him. His body of work is very impressive. He's like the Mel Allen of Tennis.

He's been covering the sport since since Kennedy was president. He's traveled the globe to hundreds of events and covered them live.

Who gives a ****, the guy is ****ing stupid as all hell. And if he actually is going senile, then why the hell is he still commentating.
 
Collins is knowledgeable about tennis as he wrote those great encyclopedias about tennis. However, he is biased against Federer
 
For all those nostalgic people, it's time Bud Collins passed on his torch to someone else...
I guess when you've been around tennis your whole life and you're getting on a bit, it's hard to let go....
Doesn't this guy have anything better to do than commentate while developing dementia?
 
Bud Collins has an encyclopedia's worth of knowledge of tennis past, as far as tennis now he is a little lacking.

He admitted he had no idea who Ivan Navarro was prior to his match against Dent, pretty sure half the board knew who Ivan Navarro was and his style of play before this match.

Because even if he is senile, he knows more than you will ever know. So where does that put you? Dumber than an 80 year old senile guy who has been reporting on tennis for 60 years.

Collins might be a little crazy, but to say he is retarted or knows nothing about tennis is plain dumb. When Dent broke the net strap tonight, the guy came up with three or four examples of net straps breaking from the 70's. Pointless, absolutely, but none the less, he knows his tennis facts.

Bud has a great first-hand knowledge of tennis. He had a pretty good commentary yesterday on Dent Navarro.

He also takes great care in pronouncing right players' names.

For one thing, I've heard him just yesterday saying Dementieva. The way he does it, only the Russians do it, with a softening after "t."

Now, he might have been wrong about Berdych's name, but most probably he's right. I've never talked to Berdych; Bud must have done it and asked about it.

There's more to learn from the man than to despise in him and that's the bottom line.
