This is it. The ultimate 1hbh supremacy is up for grabs in Argentina this Sunday. It's no coincidence that it will be in Buenos Aires and on Valentine's Day, for these two gauchos are ready to tango with nothing in mind other than to hit the most murderous 1hbhs until the other one collapses. Forget about strategy, forget about mental toughness. It's just two cannons facing each other, and we wouldn't have it any other way.

In the red corner, we have the Austrian assassin, Dominic Thiem. Armed with his Pure Strike and bleached mane, it's Thiem to kill.

In the other red corner, we have the Spanish assassin, Nicolas Almagro. Armed with a Volkl and a renewed hatred for humanity, we haven't seen a more fearsome Nico since that Seagal movie.

So who will it be? Who will still be standing after the blundgeoning bloodbath of blistering backhands??

Almagro is having a wildly succesful comeback capped off with his first win against David Ferrer in the semi-finals. Twelve ATP clay court titles in his career, but none since 2012. Almagro is on fire.

Thiem just knocked off Nadal in the other semi-final and is working on his 4th title in under a year.

Extremely excited about the play of both of these players and look for them to contend with the best on clay this season.

Ah bleached mane has been gone for over six months.

Like your enthusiasm.

Thiem hammered Almagro at the Aussie Open last month, lightening does strike twice but Almagro does have a Clay court pedigree.

So far almagro comeback is working, he does have a lot experience on clay with a lot more wins, if his health holds he'll bag another title. He has a laser like serve and BH when he is on.

Cheers

I think Thiem takes this in three, but this Almagro seems better than ever:
"I couldn't make errors with my serve and felt like I could do anything I wanted with my forehand. I felt like Djokovic." - Almagro

He was hot before Australian Open too (crushed Chung at Koo Yong impressively.), but Thiem just beat him at Auz 6-3 6-1 6-3.

This should be good and much closer, but it looks like baby Almagro can do just about anything better than Almagro.

None since 2012. Thiem about to have his fourth in under a year. Almagro won't find it easy taking candy from a baby Almagro.

Should Novak be worried? ;)

Almagro is transforming into Nico 2.0.

Winning vs Ferrer after all the times he lost and choked... Talk about getting a monkey off your back. This guy could be dangerous this clay season

Thiem in 2 or 3. He is the best on clay of the younger players and has proven so by winning three clay tournaments last year. I'm confident he can beat Almagro again. Bamos!

I voted Almagro, but I'm beginning to think that Thiem will take this one. Almagro likes to hit hard, but it will play into Thiem's game of standing far back.

Nico will be Thieminated with extreme prejudice in two. Almagro will channel his inner Coric and play more like Murray than Djokovic.

Probably worth mentioning that it was Ferrer's 2nd match of the day. He played I believe a long 3 setter, then came back after the Thiem match to play Nico.

I voted Thiem in two.

Two back to back top 10 wins for Almagro should be very encouraging for him. I hope that he returns in top 20 as a farewell song
