Bungalo (and others) -- last volley contact question

Bungalo, Mojo (and others) -- last volley contact question

Forehand Volley: let's say you step in the direction of the ball. Is the contact point in front of the lead foot? -- because that would (seem to) stretch your body out too much, almost so that your center of gravity would move outside your base of support. For me, if I were to contact the ball far in front of my lead foot, I'd be bending forward at the back or straightening my arm way too much, thus messing up my balance. I agree the contact point can be in front of your trunk, but I'm trying to figure out what is meant when people say: "make contact in front of the body". Do they mean in front of the lead foot? I'm trying to picture what "in front of the body" means in this case? Thanks and sorry for the multiple questions.

Bring the ball within the width of your feet but not past your belly button. Play with the contact point from this perspective for your own personal choice. I volley with my trunk facing the 45 degree angle on most of my volleys. The ball from this perspective is withing the width of my feet and in front of my body plane.

perfect!!! this helps...thanks BB -- good advice as usual

you want the weight going forward on the forehand volley if possible, but the wrist should be laid back and that makes the actual contact point further back than the location of your wrist, so this is a bit difficult to answer properly...the backhand volley is entirely different though and you can build a case for hitting that one out in front as much as possible because you sure dont wish to catch those back in your body.
