I want to state in advance that I appreciate your help, especially on the backhand! Regarding the USPTA course: you mentioned the serving section. Did they require that you hit a topspin serve? And: Can you fail to get level 3 because, say, you don't correctly identify stroke errors? Also: do they provide study material clarifying what they want in the lesson format? I guess I'm also trying to figure out how mistakes are weighed. Is there a point system with an absolute pass/fail line? Thanks and sorry for endless follow-ups.

They do require you to hit a topspin and a slice serve to each of the areas of the box on both the duece and ad court. If you have good motion and mis they will take note that it might be nerves. Sometimes they will ask you to pick a spin serve. They really are trying to see your motion, how many you get in the right place dictates what level you will be.
The test is cumulative, so if you fail a certain amount of sections you wont pass. Also, I think you have to pass the written exam before your certified, dont quote me on that but you should find out.
With your registration they will provide you with all the materials you need to pass the test. This is the area I was least impressed coming from the USPTA. It seemed like it was a hodge podge of information thrown together from various articles in the past. I am aware the USPTA is updating this information to make it more cohesive and instructional.
For the Stroke Production Exam: Failure is a result of not passing three or more sections.
For the Teaching Exam: Failure is a result of not passing one or more sections.
For the Written Exam: Failure is a result of not achieving a score of at least 70%

Teaching Exam: you must pass all four sections at Pro 3 or better.
Written Exam: you must have a score between 70-79 percent.
For the overall rating for level 3: you must score at least a level 3 on all three parts of the exam, if you dont - you fail and have to retake the exam.
