Butt of Racquet in heel of palm

I am not sure why but I got into the habit of holding the racquet with the butt in the heal of my palm. I still have all my fingers on the racquet. Its a subtle difference. I hope I am being clear. The only problem I have with this is that I develpoed a very bad blister in the heel of my hand. Does anyone else hold the racquet this way?

This is a common way of holding the racket. It creates a feeling of having more flexibility and possibily adds a quarter inch to your reach. Rod Laver (continental grip) would actually remove the butt-cap and sand the (wood in his day) edges to make it fit his palm.

The relatively sharp edge of the cap rubbing against the palm will cause blisters if you do not take the time to develop callouses.

You can try overlapping the butt-cap edge with your leather grip and an over-grip. It might help.

I hold the racket the exact same way. it allows me to snap my wrist more on serves and generate more racquet speed on my 4hand b.c the wrist is looser. OTH, I've been getting blisters for the longest time and now I overlap the buttcap section with a cutoff sleve like the ones u'd use to built up a grip. This also beefs up your butt cap for a better feel on your grip. I no longer have blisters on the bottom of my palm.

I hold the racquet for the same reason. I get blisters every once in while but only if I hit for a long period of time.

I also hold the racquet this way. After a while I got a really bad blister that popped and took me out of the game for two or three weeks, but the it developed into a callous and his been fine ever since then.
