Calibration question and electronic tension readers

I used a ektelon tension callibrator on my machine (electronic) to check the tension, by looping 2 pieces of string round the ends of the callibrator and attaching it to the tension head and a fixed clamp. Anyway, i was getting readings of approximately 5/6lbs too high which did concern me!

Anyway I checked a string job straight off the machine with a friend's 'Electronic Tension Reader' (http://www.tennis-warehouse.com/descpage-ERT300.html)

Now I strung the racket at 54/53lbs and the machine read the overall job at 53.

So it would appear either the tension calibrator is bust or I'm using it incorrectly, the electronic tension readers are inaccurate or some other factors are in play?

My main question is are these electronic tension readers a sufficient method of checking my machine is still tensioning ok? Obviously I can't callibrate the machine as such by using one, but I can check the machine is pulling tension as desired, no?

Mine is from SP (same as my machine) and whether I measure from a clamp or from the W-mount (it is designed to mount here) measured tension is the same and corresponds to the reading on my machine's display.

I assume that the 53 you mention is not the actual DT reading on the ERT screen, right?
