Calorie expenditure in a match?

Played a grueling match last night against a strong 5.0 player from overseas. Temp was about 80 with 70 to 80% humidity. We were both pretty soaked.

Got me wondering approximately how many calories are spent in a 2 to 2.5 hour match, hitting hard, long rallies with s&v mixed in.

Would be interesting to know. I lost about 60 lbs last year and trying to lose another 10 or so. My goal is to be around 10% bf so playing because I love to but also as a way to stay in shape.

Any info appreciated.

I think it depends on how much you weigh to begin with. But my rough guess would be around 600 calories. Complete guess. That is a little more than I would burn jogging nonstop for an hour.

I weigh about 190 or so.

Did some more looking into it and found that it's about 500 cal an hour at that weight. That's around what I thought although maybe it's more in oppressive temperatures?

I'm not sure. I would think your body works harder to maintain homeostasis in hotter temperatures, but I was guessing 600 for in general. So looks like 1000 was the number I should have went with.

I should have a pretty good calorie deficit if I can spend 1000 to 1200 calories per match along with the other cardio I'm doing.

Singles tennis without the social breaks to chit chat and what not uses between 600-700 calories per hour. That assumes some rallying not just serve and error.

No, I meant 600 for the 2 hour match lol

I play at ~4.0 level. When I play my buddy who is better than I I wear my polar heart rate monitor and for a match I average ~135 bpm. When I upload the data to the app, it uses some algorithm and spits out a calorie count. For this scenario and 1.5 hrs of tennis at the aforementioned intensity it says I burn right around 1000 calories. I was surprised it was so high. Sadly the end result is me justifying increased beer consumption.
