Well this is pretty crazy.

Tennis star Camila Giorgi has reportedly fled Italy with authorities keen to question her over gaps in her tax returns.
Rumours have swirled about the 32-year-old after she appeared to quietly retire from the sport this week after she was listed as ”retired” on the International Tennis Integrity Agency’s website.

It emerged this week the WTA Tour has been unable to make contact with her.
. The mystery, however, deepened after La Gazzetta dello Sport revealed the tennis player turned social media model fled to the United States with her family

The same source claimed Giorgi is wanted by Italy’s financial police.

The Macerata-born star is said to have departed alongside her father Sergio, mother Claudia and brothers Leandro as well as Amadeus.

According to investigations of the Florence Prosecutor’s Office, the former Wimbledon star and her family have several “gaps” regarding tax returns, which have never been submitted. It’s also suggested that Giorgi cut contact with the WTA, the Italian Tennis Federation and other competitors.

It's not the first time Giorgi or her dad are involved in this kind of drama. Wasn't she accused of travelling with a fake covid certificate?

Correct. And I believe she’s had tax issues before!
Beyond tax issues, there were reports that early in her career, her father arranged for people to “invest” in her and help cover the costs of being a young upcoming tennis professional. In return, these investors were to collect on her future earnings. However these investors were left high and dry once she actually started to earn prize money.

She failed to repay investors at some stage, according to reports, so she is quite a shady character. Boris Becker found out that this can catch up with you!

I remember her father getting caught "smoking" during a match. Not sure when it was but it wasn't so long ago (2022 maybe). Smoking is forbidden in tennis stadiums. When the camera showed him, he tried to hide it but it was too late. Everyone saw it. Very embarrassing. Camilla was questionned about it in her press conference but refused to answer.

And then she put her cigarette butt out on the reporter’s arm.

Better start finding that rich socialite.

But their money problems have been documented for years with her Dad's poor financial deals. Cami is kind of a pawn in that regard (according to reports) and it is unfortunate things turned that way.

lmao, the whole story if true is total GOAT :-D :-D

not paying taxes... she will fit right in America
Not paying taxe when it's within the law is totaly normal in the US culture and actually should be normal. It's the euro and other place in the world the one being weird. Constitution/Rule of law should be the way to go and not some nebulous customs here and there.

Ridiculous. Now we have new types of career ending injury: Not paying rent and stealing furniture.
By the way, maybe she did not know she was renting a home with antiques worth 50,000 - 100,000 euros. Maybe she thought they were amenities and took them away with her when she left.

Oh come on! That's not the same as fake tax return filings. But I am sure you can "forensically" and "scietifically" argue the parallels there.

I am guessing the difference there may be what you can claim; the write-offs in between those places may not be unequal within the tax laws. Athletes in Germany, Spain and Italy have had issues before.
