I was there today & had a good look at Ryan Harrison beating Beck. Harrison looked really good. Beck didn't look like he was much of a challenge for him.

Harrison has a BIG time serve and Huge Forehand. but right now His Brains hasn't mateured yet so he still Plays like a Junior mentally that is....

He was actually pretty sound today. Rarely looked lost on the court at all, but it may have been this particular match. Hopefully he can keep it up.

When he is off and fragile,,,,,he double Faults like crazy and even gives away games with double faults.......lol

Yea but honestly the way he beat Beck was quite ridiculous you would have thought Harisson was like 50 and Beck was 200. It was an impressive showing. Biggest question is which Harisson shows up in his next match. Would like to see him make a huge run here and make some huge runs on the hardcourts. Get to top 100 before the end of the year would be a big deal.

Here's some results from today's singles:

Dustin Brown d. Bjorn Phau 7-6(3), 6-7(7), 6-4
Go Soeda d. Taylor Dent 6-4, 3-6, 6-4
Ryan Harrison d. Karol Beck 6-1, 6-2
Man, Taylor Dent is going downhill quickly, isn't he? Too bad. :(

Maybe he should go back to his 100% serve and volley game? I know recently he's been changing his game to play more from the baseline, but I don't think it's working. He's better off charging the net, especially behind that huge serve of his. He should be winning more on grass.

I was a hundred percent sure of that this tourney was being played in Newport, OC, California. The commentator just said "Rhode Island" and I just had to check it out, and obviously found out, I was dead wrong.
Ha ha ha.....LOL. I used to live down the block from the Newport Casino (Tennis Hall of Fame) in Newport, R.I. It's called the "Hall of Fame Championships" because it's played at the Tennis Hall of Fame, which of course, is in Newport, Rhode Island.

Actually the big issue is his serve, its big (148 at wimbledon) but the 2 times i saw him he wasn't getting his first serve in very often. Consistency on his serve is the big problem, his groundstrokes were big, fast and good.

he really took care of business today, knocking out the player 10 years older than himself ... ryan's another one of those who's been coached by his dad since he was "2 years old" ... woof! he's already got 16 years experience

there's another young American wild card I'm interested in seeing (I think he was at wimby juniors?), namely, Denis Kudla ...

Great job by Kudla, he won 7-5 in the 3rd. I'm pretty sure this is his 1st MD tour level match, not a bad draw playing a Spaniard on grass either.

Hmm, how come Fish has gotten 6 votes? He's never done well here. Ram repeating is a more likely than Fish winning the tournament. I'd say Ram and SQ are equal contenders for the title.

Fish got a tough quarter, playing Somdev next and then the Dancevic/Mahut winner in the QF. Right now I'm thinking a Querrey-Mahut final, although Mahut dropping a 6-1 set to a garbage player is making me wonder.

Fish, Mahut and Ram all looked solid today.....left the dslr home cause it was too hot to lug around but have a few p/shoot camera shots if I can figure out how to get em from flickr to here....

. . .

Quality is fine ... thx for the nice pics, hrstrat57 :)

Didnt realize it was so hot there ... will you be going again? It looks like a pretty nice place.

Falla garbage!? i'm pretty sure he almost beat the GOAT in the 1st round of Wimbledon :)

Got that right ..... caused a lot of anxiety among RF fans, IIRC :D

nice picture, thanks.

... 3 adjacent courts ?
but it seems they use only one of them at the same time during the tournament, right ?... and is there also a "lonely" center court ?

Doesn't seem so by looking at the stream. It looks as tho maybe there's a doubles court as the middle of the three and then two singles courts without the tramlines, but hrstrat57 will know for sure :)

The fourth match on center Wednesday w/b ...

kudla is a bit of a question mark, except that he did beat santiago ventura in R1. the atp website doesn't even say how long he's been in the USA or whether he's a citizen, but their profile on him begins in 2008. I gotta guess that harrison will win it

at wimby, kudla (17/wb 18 in a month) made it to the QF of juniors, and harrison (18 ) was knocked out in the first round of qualifying by that berankis guy.

=== edit: I guess kudla m/b a citizen, according to the article @ http://www.tennisfame.com/american-...n-campbells-hall-of-fame-tennis-championships

This is correct. Yesterday 2 singles matches were played on the right court then 2 more on the left......the last shot was taken from a match on the side courts....(Bubka)

A doubles match was played late in the afternoon in the center court which has the alleys.

Matches are played also on side courts.....3 courts are set up there - lines are moved around to keep the surface as playable as possible.....

If I can post a few more from yesterday or even last or the previous year I will to better illustrate the grounds.

Sorry no dslr, it was just too hot......

I have some more decent shots of fish/russell match....will get those up tonight if I have time......

The tourney is a fun take, you all should make a visit if possible......the cliff walk is a few steps away(spectacular) and the Newport HOF (know to locals as the casino) is right where the mansion tours start as well as the ocean drive.

It really is a good take for tennis fans looking for some other fun stuff to do.

I actually kinda grew up playing there as a kid on the back courts....I probably didn't hit a ground stroke till I was about 15:)

The Falla, Mahut match yesterday was a super high quality match.

Falla netted a few forehands here and there, one in particular in the final set was a deal breaker for him.

Falla is a very solid player.

Fish and Ram both put on s/v clinics yesterday. Fish in particular hit lines on his serve constantly. It was pretty impressive.

That Denis Kudla,,being invisible must have some advantages when playing the match. Wonder why he hasn't broken thru yet ??:)

IIRC, he's played in relatively few juniors matches over the past two years in the USA ..... Can't find any info on him when he was in Ukraine ..... you're right about having a bit of an advantage remaining under the radar ... but that's about to change! :p

Hey! Somdev just held serve. Fish now serving! :D

Watching the fish match and wow it's really strange to see the court having tramlines on one side only.

Brown breaks Querrey. He's not a bad player is he? :)

quite interesting, indeed ...... weird to see that dusty has 6 aces, while sam has just 1

first look and all that I guess, but dustin's serving for the first set 5-4

=== edit:
make that ace #7 ........ at 25 minutes :)
