Can anyone dethrone Djokovic and Alcaraz at the US Open?

I was gonna be a total clown and say line judges, but they've been replaced with automatic line calling for a couple years already.

The only thing that can maybe happen is that Sinner takes out Alcaraz, and Medvedev takes out Djokovic, and then one of those win it.

I get your drift - currently it looks as though it is a 2 horse race. In which case, if so, I anticipate ND to put up a formidable challenge and CA to do likewise. I too believe that these 2 are the favourites as things stand. I suggest that we'll have a better opportunity to assess after Toronto/Cincinnati.

But Destiny and Lady Luck have not, as far as I know, given guarantees that one of CA or ND will win the USO. All participants with an eye to the title will want to play their best tennis and win the title. It is the stuff of dreams, and aspirations take flight when a player can play to their strengths.

I remain optimistic that CA's younger rivals, including Rune / Sinner and excellent players on recent good form such as Medvedev (there are others too) will put up good challenges, and make it an interesting tournament. If not, it is a wonderful prospect to have CA / ND in the final at the USO 2023 and I for one will not complain.

Djokovic doesn’t need to be dethroned since he hasn’t held that throne since 2018. It’s Carlos’ kingdom, and Nole is just living in it.

more than 5 players inside the top 20 can upset djokovic, even tiafoe cannot be taken lightly in some scenarios......do not really see anyone taking out alcaraz apart from himself, the same set of players will fancy their chances if he has an off day......

If Medvedev meets Sinner, there's only one way that match will unfold
I actually think Sinner will beat him the next time they meet. The last 2 matches, sinner clearly wasn’t 100%. Could be wrong, but I think Medvedev will lose. I think so because in that Miami final, it was a short turnover time for Sinner, and if I remembered correctly he got the first break in that match, could be wrong but me thinks Sinner beats Medvedev in three

Sinner is a highly overrated and overhyped player. More than 80% of that hype comes from his matchup advantage over Alcaraz, which I belive should be figured out by team Carlos ASAP.

Are you implying Tiafoe could take out Novak at the USO?

it is possible if he gets a tired novak under the lights on a humid night......if he gets a chance, just needs to cut down on those stupid crowd pleasing antics and remain focused through out, he has the game......

I count 5 conditions or 4 if we combine 4 and 5

1) Tired Novak
2) under lights
3) humid conditions
4) no show-boating
5) remain focused

With so many conditions it's almost as if Tiafoe needs to get lucky.

Only the defending champion can be dethroned anywhere. And there is only ever one defending champion in singles

And Alcaraz is the defending singles champion, not Djokovic, unless they were doubles champions together.

From my experience usually in ATP when two guys are overwhelming favorites the winner is almost always between two of them. Especially if they are in other halves. 2014 USOpen is a rare occurrence. I think winner is between these two ONLY.
