Take a Pro staff 97 as an example and right side as the short side.

1)String up 7 mains on both side, tie off the short side on 5H (add usual extra tension ).
2)Start stringing from the 2nd cross all the way to the 17th cross.
3)Skip 18th cross and String the 19th cross(last cross)
4)Complete 8th main on the right (double pull)
5)String the 1st cross(double pull) , 8th main on the left (double pull)and lastly the 18th cross (double pull before adding usual extra tension before tying off).
both knots are on the right

Taking a blade 98 18x20 as an example and right side as the short side.

1)String up 8 mains on both side, tie off the short side on 6H (add usual extra tension ).
2)Start stringing from the 2nd cross all the way to the 18th cross.
3)Skip 19th cross and String the 20 th cross(last cross)
4)Complete 9th main on the left (double pull)
5)String the 1st cross(double pull) , 9th main on the right (double pull)and lastly the 19th cross (double pull before adding usual extra tension before tying off).
Both knots are diagonally away from each other

what's the name of this stringing method?

wrong because it involves double pulls, even on lower crosses?
I was always taught that that was the biggest no no of all, was I taught wrong?

Just an ATW method that‘s been around for a long time. I don’t like it because there are too many difficult weaves. I think it’s a variation of the diredesire ATW.

-just a variation of a ATW pattern, IMO
-2me is a bit more difficult, with all the weaving upwards!?
-i dont mind the double pulls, but the "upward weaving" i do not care for (i try to avoid myself)
-but if thats something you like to do, more power to you!!

There are two definitions of double pull, depending on context.

First is to pull tension on two strings at the same time.

The other is to pull tension on a single string twice. Pull tension once, release, pull tension a second time. This is what is being described here.

It's a bit like being told an event occurs bi-weekly, and then having to work out whether that means twice a week or once a fortnight.

Sorry, I don't think I have made myself super clear.
Double pull refers to "pull tension on a single string twice. Pull tension once, release, pull tension a second time."

Thanks @Dags

I don’t think there is any formal name for your described stringing steps. I thought for a second that ‘box pattern’ could be used. Decided against that nomenclature as ‘box pattern’ generally uses the short side. My 3cents says it is probably just a pattern developed, then left in history’s dustbin, because there are too many hard weaves and or too complicated to remember. TBH I only use the Universal or Box Pattern ATW steps because I don’t have to think much when doing them. Also can’t remember much after the second beer or the 3rd identical frame.
