Can anyone recommend a 17 gauge full poly with name printed on string

Hi ,

I've been cheated a couple of times by the local shop purporting to put in the requested string , when it turns out its not the real thing. Used to play with PSGD in the past which are pretty apparent ( with that strand of aramid /Kevlar). Now that I am switching to poly , can anyone recommend a poly with the string name printed on the string itself so that I don't get cheated. Many thanks in advance.

Order your string from TW and bring it to your stringer.

Or even better, get a stringing machine and string your own. No more paying for labor and making trips to drop off/pick up your racquet. And you can have a racquet ready in the time it takes to string. Lucky for me, I enjoy stringing.

Yonex Poly Tour Pro has name printed on string lol

Some info which may be useful:
Tecnifibre Black Code 16 has its name on the string, from a reel.
Tecnifibre Black Code 18, in sets, does not have the name.

Don't know if the difference is that one is a reel and one isn't, or if the thinner gauge makes it too difficult to print the name on it.

Prince Beast 15gauge in sets has its name printed on the string, so do sets of Yonex Poly Tour Pro 1.20mm, Kirschbaum Competition 1.20mm and 1.25mm.

The other thing is that I think the print rubs off very easily; I use Black Code 16 frequently but never noticed the print on the string in a strung racquet.

You could also use uniquely shaped strings to help keep your stringer honest. However, why you would go back to a stringer you believe has screwed you is beyond me.

As already suggested, get yourself an inexpensive stringing machine.

Thanks ....convenience I guess. This pro shop is just a stone's throw away from my office and their reasonably priced. They can't screw around with a string with print on it. But give them a chance to use the more generic /commonly used selection of strings in reels without print on them ( i.e... PSGD) , they'll screw you for sure.

With twin 4 year old toddlers to babysit ever so often , I have ABSOLUTELY no patience / or time to string a racquet on my own , nor would I imagine doing a good job of it.

Will relate an experience here to vent my frustration. I ask for PSGD without picking a packet off the shelf and handing it to them. What I get is "clear" PSGD in the crosses and a "black" string in the mains with no print on it. When asked about the "black" string , the dude says its PSGD as well. Now , I didn't ask for a hybrid stringing of 2 difference coloured strings. Definitely not a 2 piece stringing combo either. They didn't even ask me if I liked the colour selection. They just wanted to finish off a used up reel. That's not right , but I'm still not sure bout the "black" string if it is indeed PSGD. Sure enough , strings broke in a month.

Thanks for the info ...

Thanks. do you string the racquets yourself ? Or do you get them from the shop ? I have heard of this logical explanation as well. I really need a 17 gauge, having played with a 16 PSGD which does not give me the accuracy I need.

On another tangent , I currently have the following racquets /string combinations :

1) Dunlop Biomimetic 400 Tour racquet with a full bed of poly strings attached that I play fairly accurately with and I'm enjoying. Bought 2nd hand from a guy who said it was strung with a poly ( no print on the strings). Was a little stiff in the beginning , but got round it.

2) Prince Exo3 Ignite 95 - strung with Technifibre Synth Gut 16 Pearl. (waiting for this to break to restring with a 17 gauge poly). Holding up pretty well for a Synth Gut. 16 gauge is just not giving me the accuracy I need.

3) Prince Original Graphite 2013 Model - strung with PSGD. Not even a month since I bought it with new 16 gauge strings PSGD , it broke ! Maybe my arm's getting stronger for this lite stuff and time to make that leap to poly.

Could it be I'm getting too strong for Synth Gut and need a poly ? But I just know 16 gauge certainly does not give me the accuracy I need which had led me to believe I need a 17 gauge. But now the question is will the 17 gauge lose out in terms of accuracy as opposed to a 18 gauge poly. And will the 18 gauge wear out too fast and break having the same fate as the 16 gauge PSGD ? ( i.e... poor durability) :)

You feel me ? :)

Depending on how hard and heavy you hit, 18g will last a while in 18x20, not too long in 16x19/open pattern though but should still last longer than SynGut. 18g poly will give you a little more spin and increased feel. I've tried many polys and my favorite is RPM Blast. It could be that you want to try a hybrid of poly and SynGut. Hope this helps.

I don't string myself but I do buy all my strings from tennis warehouse. Maybe you should do what I do :)

I can't imagine a shop cheating you. I think your just paranoid. If you want a specific color and gauge ask for it.

There are so many cases here with "RPM Blast" with no printing on the string - strung in a shop.

"I may be paranoid but this does not mean I've not been cheated." ;)

Wilson Ripspin 17g has been my go to string for a few months now. Very nice for the price. Predictable playability throughout the use.

Go for a coloured and textured string, no way they're gonna pull one over you on that.

Volkl cyclone pink, yellow
Volkl cyclone tour, red (pyramid shaped)
Prince tour xc / xs, yellow, orange

My PSGD 17 gauge has printing on it.

Here's a hilarious update ..

I went to another shop to get my new poly. I look at the wall full of reels of string and finally see something I like , GOSEN POLYLON ( bad choice on hindsight) and I see print on the string. When I receive by strung racquet , no print on the string. So I start ranting to the owner and leave in a huff.

What I find out later is that the print maybe on the string. But after the wears of being pulled through the grommets , the print may come off. So im stuck with this GOSEN POLYLON for now. :( oh and 17G is the ideal choice for power hitting. :)

i highly doubt ALL of the writing gets worn off-- i can clearly see on my rackets the print after stringing..

bang for buck cyclone 17-- i use it all the time

I've never seen the writing get worn off in all my years stringing. I call BS on that story.

Print on strings doesn't wear off during stringing. Period.

Yep. Been using Black Code 16 for a while in reel form and the print is nowhere to be seen after stringing.

Solinco Tour Bite, Yonex Poly Tour Pro, Babolat RPM Blast...

The entire premise of this thread still cracks me up. The idea of getting a string with an imprint just to keep your stringer honest is like getting a chastity belt for your racquet.

RPM BLAST 17
POLYSTAR ENERGY 17 (Black string w name printed red)
YONEX PTP 16L
YONEX (All others) - feel, sound, material 'texture' same for all their poly

It wears off completely? Wow! That never happened to me in all the 1000 rackets I ever strung

It depends on the string and the printing. I've strung up polys where the printing flaked off the main strings just from fanning the crosses up and down while pulling them through.

To answer the OP, the black printing on white Rip Spin 17 doesn't have that problem.

Yes it does. You've done a 1000 racquets of Black Code 16? Wow!

I strung black code once, can't remember if it weared off, but I know for sure the print doens't wear off Volkl Cyclone, YPTP, RPM blast, Babolat. n.vy. I strung a 1000+ rackets with these strings.

But maybe there are strings where it does wear off.
