Can Someone beat Federer ****SPOILER*******

If they were to meet again, does anyone here think Djoker has the game to beat federer?

These hardcourts are really fast so serve makes the difference as we could see today. If both serve well I´m not sure if Djokovic would be so confident playing the big points against Federer so I think Federer is the favourite but Djokovic has some chance.

Thanks for ruining it for me! I was watching the match on ESPN and browsing this forum, but I was being careful to stay away from "Pro Player Discussion" because I know that tools like you have no consideration for others... I just happened to see the title of your thread in the home page. That was enough.

After over 500 posts, you'd think you'd learn a few things. Like common sense. Or reading comprehension ("Talk about anything Pro.. Except Match Results!").

roger is still obviously the favorite, but as i said in other threads, i'll be rooting for djokovic. not that i'm against federer, i think he's great btw. but i like 3-way rivalries and if djokovic wins against roger, this might be the beginning of an exciting 3-way rivalry, like in the 70's and 80's with connors/borg/mac and mac/lendl/wilander.

I apologize for this thread. It wasnt intentional. I really didnt know the result of Nadal Djokovic match until you guys pointed it out...Believe it or not.

Btw for people using swear words against me...just shut up and move on.Mistakes happen.

djokavic has become so good so quickly....just last year at the us open he got dominated by a out-of-form hewitt, and since then gradually he's improved, but in heaps in 2007...qtrs at the AO losing to federer, semis at both the french open and wimbledon losing to nadal....and at wimbledon he was completely fatigued and still managed to take the first set

no spoilers but i think he can put up a really good effort against federer, but he cannot beat federer....

i think federer wins this one in two tight sets...

Can he beat Federer? Yes

Though, I don't think it's time yet. By that I mean I don't think he is better then federer yet. (He could win by luck or a bad federer)

Federer can take his time away by taking the ball so early. He was always rushed by Federer in their previous matches. He has a lot more time to set up his shot against Roddick and Nadal.

Not yet, but soon I think. Believe me I really like Novak as a player and a person (I think he's hilarious), but I don't think he can take Roger down just yet.

If I had to place a bet, obviously I would go with Roger for now.

Lets match them up
Serve-Federer
Forehand-Federer
Backhand-Djokovic I guess
Volleying-Federer by a mile
Return-Federer
Speed-Federer
Footwork-Federer
Experience-Federer
Mental Game-Federer

Fed wins 7-5,6-4

IMO Roger Federer in 2007 isn't the same player than he was in 2006. It's normal to have a phase as this after years beeing #1 and winning a lot. If Federer to pass well for this phase, and I think he will, he will become even a stronger player.

Federer is already considered one of the best of all times. Although anyone can lose a match at anytime, the chances are slim to none that Djokovic can beat him. Fed is not like Nadal on hardcourts, he doesnt spin it in and hope the opponent makes a mistake. I wouldnt be suprised if Djokovic starts having a match record vs Fed like Fed has against Roddick

I just wish someone would stir some feathers here and beat the champ but that place is still very much Nadal's domain -on clay- but Fed will win this match today - no problem!!

I could be wrong, but I think Roger is the same player of last year. I do think, however, that the rank and file of players behind and chasing him is improving--finally. I think they are progressing to a point where they can start to challenge him on more occasions than last year.

nope - No one has the transition game like Federer. Djokovich is very good, as we saw last night, but no one has the all around game - only Roger has it.

i watched some Roger's match vs. stepaneck, whose game i really like, he's creative and fun to watch - but when i saw Roger pull an inside out drop volley - I turned it off - There is simply no one even close.

I did watch both matches early in the year where Canas beat Roger. I think we was able to do that because - he was returning Roger's serve very well, and two, he kept Roger on the baseline - that's your only chance.

The best way to beat Roger Federer is to stand behind the baseline and play great defence. Federer's only flaw is the fact that his unforced error count sometimes creeps up way too high. Therefore, by standing back you are forcing Roger to hit more shots and in all likelihood commit more errors. This is why Nadal is so effective against Fed. He runs down everything and makes Federer hit the extra shots. As does Canas. DJokovic has this ability to an extent, but lacks the real discipline and speed to perfect this play.

I would not want to enter playing Roger with the theory of trading groundies all day baseline to baseline. Roger also has the skill and craft to hit the short stuff and take people off the baseline when he wants to. Roger is a master at taking people out of their plans. Canas' only success came in early rounds. Roger brings his 'A' game to every finals that he enters. I doubt Roger will be content to allow your plan to work--but I could be wrong as I have been wrong many times before. We'll see! ;)

Fed's playing extremely well this week.

It could happen - 2 out of 3 sets lends itself to upsets - I just don't see it. Hoping for an entertaining, high level match.

I'm sure the USTA and CBS/USA are hoping for it - I'm sure they worry that ratings will suffer with Fed as the huge favorite.

You are almost right.
But Fed's BH did all it could and finally paid the price.

djokavic is just unbelievable....when was the last time someone just stormed up the rankings like he did?

sure, most people will not pay too much attention on this match by the time the us open comes, but you can for sure expect djokavic to be there on the final weekend, and very likely in the final

I think he played about the best he could play. Federer wasn't even close to his level for about 75 percent of the match. Extremely disappointed with Federer's effort throughout.

I really did not think Djkovic could beat Federer.
Djokovic is simply a stronger version of Hewitt.
I gues it turns out to be much stronger version of Hewitt...
Djokovic is really surprising me...

I agree. Federer usually raises his level from just "amazing" to almost "flawless" on Sundays for finals. Not today, though. I thought he actually went down a level or two. :-(

Yeah I agree. He wasn't playing anywhere near his best. I mean look at how many times he missed his forehand. That is usually his goto shot.

Federer does everything slightly better except the backhand. That is key though as Novak has no weaknesses while Federer does.

nah, Djokovic is not my type of players.

I like players like Gasquet and Baghdatis.

I think now more than one players can now hang with Federer
from the baseline pretty evenly (or better on some surfaces).

Federer is now hanging on to his serve (which I think is his best weapon).

Gee Freak. Guess the same can be said for Nadal. He has weaknesses that the Joker painfully highlighted for him last night. In fact, Djokovic fed Rafa a large dose of his own medicine and had him totally frustrated by the end of the match. Kind of fun to see. Given Fed and Rafa's competitiveness though, I'm sure they will be loaded for bear the next time they face the Joker.

-k-

im really excited to see the next matchup between novak and fed/nadal. i wonder if either will be intimidated. its funny how djokovic was so nervous playing nadal in that masters final in the beginning of the year to beating him twice on hardcorts now, and winning 2 masters this year.
