Can Djokovic continue to stop Alcaraz breaking young Nadal's records?

Djokovic has stopped Alcaraz from being the youngest winner of the gold medal, the youngest winner of the golden channel slam, and the youngest winner of the career golden slam. These records of Nadal were protected after the Olympics 2024 final.

Alcaraz however is still targeting being the youngest to complete the career slam, while Djokovic cannot fully stop it from happening this year as Alcaraz has a few shots at AO before he is too old, but Djokovic can for sure delay it and let Nadal hold onto it longer and then who knows....

Alcaraz is also targeting Courier's record of the being the youngest player to play all grand slam finals.

Alcaraz should crush all those records imo. He's athletically gifted, has power, has touch, great volleys, big serve despite tininess?
If it weren't for his concentration lapses, which might be incurable (see Shapovalov), he'd have a shot at breaking Djoker's 24 Slam record and Rafa's RG record(yes, you heard that right).

I think he can beat Alcaraz here in Australia (I have Djokovic as the slight favourite going in) but I think it's the last time. He's not going to get the favourable conditions (night match, RLA which have been the majority of his matches for years in Melbourne) at the other slams and he'll be too old by the next AO I think

Cant see it. Alcaraz i think will win this quite easily. Sinner is Alcaraz's great rival and if he wants to beholding Sinner off ( i think he is better than Sinner) then he just has to be beating a former great at 37 years of age and needs to make a real statement as well. Lose this and i think he will concede much ground to Sinner moving forward.
I said it weeks ago, huge event this for Alcaraz. Needs to be ebating Djokovic Zverev and Sinner to really make his mark and rubber stamp his postion as the worlds best.

I hope you're right, beating Djokovic, Zverev and Sinner back to back would be something very special to witness

True. I was a bit surprised, Alcaraz usually converts, but ofc so does Djokovic.

I think this will be a match where Alcaraz will have more BPs than Nole, so it will come down to clutchness. Alcaraz will be pushed too ofc, as his serve is vulnerable. Alcaraz must try to avoid Tie Breaks.
Alcaraz has added some more weight to the racket and is going a few more miles on serve ON AVERAGE.

So his serve is improving.

What raz usually does is very high first serves in. Like his compatriots nadal and ferrer.

On the contrary, Djokovic is daring server and has to be at this age. So who knows if Djokovic will even have serve advantage.

Alcaraz only will blame himself if he can not win against novak.
Olympic was BO3 . BO5 gives you more chances to comeback in game.
Alcaraz would've cursed himself by beating Novak at the Olympics. Novak does not play around with his manifestation shenanigans.

Djokovic has never beaten a healthy Alcaraz in a Best of 5 and he's not quite at the level he was at in 2023 when he beat Cramparaz at the FO so not sure he has it in him anymore to beat Alcaraz or Sinner for that matter in a marathon Bo5 especially if Alcaraz doesn't have one of his patented extended dips in play.
As usual with an Alcaraz match, Carlos's biggest opponent is Carlos so I can never count out any opponent against him.

I hope Djokovic wins . The AO is the bigger match not the Olympics
It wasnt until it got pointed out Nadal achieved the Golden Slam 14 years earlier that it seems the importance of the Olympics got downgraded again. Legacy media is a total fail really!

Surely carlos biggest opponent is carlos himself. If he dont loose focus i dont see novak can win. Novak winning can only mean that carlos is not ready yet.

No excuses here for Alcaraz or Djokovic (if W2019 is as significant as some claim ;)). It is mano e mano. Hugely significant.

8

Zero in second set.

If razz wasted bp then so did nole. It's not one rule for one guy. It was close match.
The key was the ninth game of the first set.
If Alcaraz broke Djokovic's serve, he would have won the set and the Serb, although he would have served first, would have had the thoughts in his mind that he would have to play at least two more hours to defeat him.
It would have been a completely different match for him a set down and that would undoubtedly have favoured Alcaraz, who could have been more relaxed with the situation in his favour.
:D

Rafa had a claim?
in the real tennis world/sport community where CONTEXT matters, RAFA IS KING! he has reached heights of accolades other tennis atgs can only dream of

Nadal is making his fourth Olympic appearance (2004, 2008, 2016) and is a two-time gold medalist (2008 singles, 2016 doubles).

Interesting notes. Nadal owes Novak a hug.
I'm happy that Novak is healthy and hungry for more big titles. For the match, I hope his serve holds and that he plays aggressive tennis. Not aggressive all match, which is not his style and not sustainable, but in some critical moments. This is when Murray hopefully would shine and earn his bag of money. Alcaraz doesn't have weakness in general but during a tight match, he would be weak in this or that area from time to time. With Murray watching, Novak will have a better chance catching those transient weaknesses.
Go, GOAT!

That olympic final was best novak played in 2024. Novak did not let his focus drop for any moment. Alcaraz was no push over in that match. He played as best as he could. No shame in loosing hard fought match. Only thing was huge age diffrence they have .

Alcaraz is just a joke at this point. But of course Djokovic fans will keep hyping him, because the alternative is admitting this is an asterisk era.

This Alcaraz would probably still have beaten both Roger & Rafa when they were 36/37 on a hardcourt. Roger might have had a chance if he was really serving well but i think even this version of Alcaraz beats say Roger in 2019/20 form.
