Can Karolina Muchová still win a grand slam?

I life watching Muchova play. She has incredibly versatility, net play, agility, and creativity. She’s a lot like Federer that way. But unlike Federer, she lacks a good serve and a cannon FH. And her return game isn’t that great. The worst part is that she is so damn injury prone. If she could somehow avoid an injury over a 2-3 year span, then she could sneak in a slam title. But that’s not going to happen, unfortunately.

But still. She is awesome to watch.

I don't think so. Even if she can stay healthy for long enough, she is a little bit of a flake even beyond that. Would be great though. Hope she does.
 
Watching her play isn't good for my heart; she plays such a pleasant game, but she's incredibly frustrating to watch. She's on a razor's edge; to me, she lacks some bread-and-butter strokes/patterns that she can rely on when things get tight. When she plays well she really does; but when she's slightly below par, she really loses points, games or sets by the fistful. And that, even when things seem to be going her way during a match. For an attacking player, her serve+1 isn't good enough to allow her to close in on her own terms reliably. Despite having a fairly tall build, she has a power deficit from the baseline. She has good footwork technically speaking, but she isn't the fastest either, so that compounds on the return of serve and when rallies get going where a powerful opponent can just hit through her.

It's still possible since she made the quarters at the USO after a frankly dreadful slam run last season (I suffered through that match against Park, that was woeful), but I wouldn't favour her against basically anyone. Even in that match against Osaka she had opportunities that she couldn't convert; she doesn't have safe and reliable plays at all. I wonder if she forced herself to play, because her level was incredibly low during the first part of the season.

A lot of truth here. Anytime I hear about Muchova is because of a tweener or some trick shot. Yet trick shots don't win slams. Just ask Kyrgios. And Muchova simply lack or isn't good enough at the things that does win slams:

1) bread and butter plays, simple and reliable patterns that can be easily executed and repeated under pressure
2) she doesn't have a big kill shot or weapon
3) people talk about how athletic she is yet I don't see that at all

And if those things weren't enough she is quite injury prone. So pretty hard to win a slam like that.

Her strengths are her serve is pretty good and obviously the variety. But you need a pretty complete game to win a slam which Muchova simply doesn't have. High percentage tennis with the weapons to attack when necessary is what she lacks. Trick shots are low percentage shots and she compound the problem with a lack of fire power.
 
She needs to get fitter (lose weight), slice less, hit with more power, and hit more angled shots. She has the talent. She needs to keep healthy.
 
I’m not sure if she can put together a Slam-winning run but I still prefer to watch her over almost any other player on either tour.
 
Agree with lots posted here, she could win, has a beautiful game…but alas I don’t think she can put it all together for the 2 weeks given her fitness and other intangibles. There is a chance though if she could align her stats.
 
At least she has a second career title now, after waiting for seven years. The WTA highlights still cannot tell the story of the match (they just jump from one point to the other).

The draw did open up for her significantly, whether before the event with a colossal number of forfeits, or during the event where the only seed she played was Mboko in the final. Still hoping it flicks a switch in her and that there's more to come.

Is there a way to rewatch the whole match on Tennis TV? Can’t find replays anymore, when did they move or get rid of them?

WTA hasn't been on Tennis TV for years. The whole WTA broadcasting/streaming deal could be a thread in itself... They probably thought Tennis TV didn't give them a fair deal, they signed with the Tennis Channel, which isn't available internationally. You literally cannot pay to watch WTA if you're not in the USA/NA and your local TV channels don't offer an alternative.

Sorry, I goofed and typed the wrong thing. I guess what I have is Tennis Channel. I could swear that before AO, I could watch replays of ATP and WTA matches, and now after AO, I see only Highlights or The Match in 15 Minutes. Or maybe I just don’t know where to look.
 
She only has 2 career singles titles. At 29 years of age. I know she has an injury record but she has also played over 500 WTA tour level matches.
What is going on there?
 
Still no. Has an amazing skill set but breaks down too easily mentally. I would love for her to do it though.
 
I’d agree that sometimes she doesn’t have the lockdown mentality but other times it’s just that it’s hard to make the serve and volley style work in the modern game. She’s not literally following serve into the net but still it’s hard to transition and win. In trying to make that transition against the top players she would find herself slightly overmatched on groundies but I feel like her groundies have been stronger this season and she seems very fit right now so hopefully that makes the difference all year.
 
Sign me up for a year with Muchova and Mboko playing a lot of big finals. Would be a lot of fun.

I think in a major where things broke Muchova's way she could absolutely win it, and wow would it be good to watch.

There are certain players she'd have to avoid. She struggles against Gauff, although the last match they played was the closest Muchova has gotten.

Just checked her finals record. In addition to her 2-5 record on the WTA tour, she was 2-8 in finals on the challenger tour( ITF Circuit). Seems to be a long term issue.

Well, at least she's heading in the right direction now.
 
Time to bring this back up. If anywhere, grass would be the surface. She's playing Gauff next, whom she has a seriously lopsided negative H2H against despite getting a win in Stuttgart last time out. Let's see if the surface advantage helps, considering it's Coco's theoretical worst surface.
 
I think this would be Karolina's best chance. Wimbledon was the second and third career titles for Vondrousova and Rybakina, respectively, after winning only smaller 250 events.

to be fair she's been injury plagued for 2-3 years. So many women who made a slam final then had multiple injuries like Brady and Andreescu.

She reminds me of Sampras & Fed once the rally gets started with athleticism and an attacking game style.

Would be amazing if my prediction came true.
 
I would love to see her win here but Coco will be tough just based on her sheer will to gut out matches - Karolina will have to play free and not be tentative. Could be a really fun matchup.
 
Amazing match! Gutsy performance by Coco. So much courage fighting throwing an injury by Muchova. Let’s gooo Karolina!
