Can Nadal break Connors' record?

"Nadal is spending his 750th straight week in the Top 10 this week- the longest active streak in the Top 10. It’s the second-longest streak ever - Connors had 789 straight weeks from 1973 to 1988."

Given the amount of injuries he has had, that is an extraordinary achievement. Can Rafa claim another incredible record?

The gap is too large. Almost a year and half. Nadal would need to win 2-3 more slams at least to maintain that kind of ranking - while hoping Djokovic barely wins any.

Not happening.

Thing is, him and Djokovic (barring major injuries) will be splitting the time at the top roughly equally, and the benefactor of that duel is... drum roll...

Federer. Once again.

Just as he had benefited from the way they took each other out throughout this decade, neither one allowing the other to overtake RF's slam record.

It should be safe already. 789 weeks is only 39 weeks away then, which means that at least his US Open win, his Montreal win and his Wimbledon SF is still in the ranking. I think the RG win must be just out before he breaks the record.

But 3720 points (and of course further counting from now on) is more than enough to stay in Top 10 until then.

What are you talking about? :D This is about top 10, not number 1.

Rafa will probably still be ranked in the top 2 by 2021 :)

This is funny concidering Federer himself factors in this. Even Murray and Wawrinka do, so please stop saying nonsense. Btw besides RG finals what did Nadal prive prime/post prime djokovic of (same goes for federer)? Not much

You are wrong. Only until the middle of June 2020.

When I read your subject, I thought that you want to mention about Connor’s record of total titles: 109 titles.

About this record, evidently, Nadal will surpass him. No doubt.

That's like saying what did Brazil do in football, besides winning 5 World Cups...

Duh.

If only Roger had just thrown his match against Simon in Wimbledon 2015 QFs, he'd have eliminated Rafa from this record and saved himself the pain in the finals. Lack of foresight, Rog!

Yup, lying in bed with a high fever, anything's possible...

Feel better!

It's not a record one readily thinks about, but it's remarkable that Rafa is breaking certain longevity records, given his grueling style and frequent injuries. Roughly 15 straight years and counting in the Top 10, and I'm sure the majority are Top Two - definitely Top 3.

Yes. 40 consecutive weeks in the top 10 from here on is a given(barring injury).

This would be an incredible record for Nadal to hold.
OK, now that I've finally read the thread properly... Yes, of course Nadal will break the record. It's a given.

Even if Rafa were to have mediocre results in the next 40 weeks, his USO title would ensure he stays put in the top 10 until July next year.

The no of points players ranked 6-10 have these days is very low. A slam title and little tidbits are enough.

Fedfans used to go on about longevity 6-7 years ago, but now they've lost that edge almost totally. Their theories about what age is prime and which isn't are mostly proving to be false.

Lemme try...

Reading "comprehension".

Now...

Com-pre-hen-sion.

Got it.

(Didn't expect such an original thread, just assumed it was about no 1 weeks. So I guess skimming over is my bigger strength.)

Too lazy to read a short OP but no qualms typing out a pile of nonsense expecting others might read your trash.

Damn... For the third time now: I'm lying in bed with fever. Not feeling that great.

I don't expect anything from you. But if you read my trash and respond with trash, you get a trashy answer back.

Lol

Is it even possible for him to drop out of the Top 10 if he doesn't play at all for the next 39 weeks?

the gap is too large??? I think he is almost guaranteed top 10 if he doesn't even play a match until close to when canada masters starts next year. he has 2000 points at USO and 1000 in canada. 3000 points would put him in 9th place in the current rankings and if he holds that until canada and adds 0 points from now until then he is likely to break the record.

Rafa could still make the top 10 until 38-39 years old just by playing the clay season.

He doesn't even have to win RG each year: just being in clay finals would give him enough points for it.

Not again...

Go back, in this thread...

I mixed up this thread with the no 1 weeks topic, hence what I posted is only relevant vis-a-vis weeks at no 1.

Got a fever, lying in bed the whole day. Mistakes happen when you're at 15%...

In just 7 weeks, Nadal will reach his 529 week as the top 2 beating Federer's record.
