Nadal would have to win one of Shanghai/Paris to do so. Nadal has reached the finals of both before, and currently shares the record with Djokovic for most Masters 1000 titles in a season (5).

What do you think?

It's possible.
Nadal needs to show his upgraded game in indoors now.
Go rafa!!!

Nadal made the final of the World Tour Finals in 2010, after having a great year on hard-courts (winning the US Open). He beat the likes of Murray and Djokovic. (Djokovic in straight sets.)

With Nadal winning in Indian Wells, Montreal and Cincinnati, what would Nadal's expected results at the remaining big tournaments (Shanghai, Paris, WTF) be, if he were to win the US Open (and so win four big hard-court tournaments in a row without a single loss on hard-courts this year)?

Nadal winning HC indoors masters at this point in his career.. No way.
Sorry *************, but it is not happening.

Nope. His luck will run out soon and Murray will destroy him in Shanghai. Then he will lose indoors in Paris and WTF as always.

If he can maintain his current level then sure ! I feel Shanghai is pretty slow for an indoor. But let's see whether he can be this much devastating for the rest of this year.

It won't be easy,he's never won Shanghai or Paris before but that's what people were saying before Cincy as well. Indoor conditions have never really suited Rafa so it'll be interesting to see what happens. Let's hope he keeps up his current level of play.

Nadal won Madrid in 2005, which was held on indoor hard-courts. He had also previously never won Cincinnati (he'd never even made the final before -- his previous results were 2R, SF, SF, QF, QF, excluding 2012, before winning it in 2013, beating 5-time champion Federer along the way). Nadal's hard-court abilities have clearly not deteriorated. Why would Nadal stand a worse chance at winning on indoor hard-courts?

Is my username *************? Or is this intended as an insult?

Yes, I'm sure Nadal is ever so lucky winning three hard-court Masters 1000s, beating Federer and Djokovic along the way.

Murray and Nadal haven't played each other since 2011, nor do we know if they will actually meet in Shanghai this year. The h2h is 6-5 to Nadal on hard-courts, with Nadal also leading 2-1 on indoor hard-courts.

Currently, 16 out of 20 Tennis Warehouse posters believe that Nadal will win at least one of Shanghai and Paris. Nadal's hard-court form this year is clearly very convincing.

Shanghai has a good chance. Paris nooooooooooooo

Why?

At Shanghai, Nadal's past results have been F, 3R, 3R (with a 66% winning percentage). At Paris, Nadal has only played the event three times from 2007-2009, but achieved a F, QF and SF (a winning percentage of 75%). However, Nadal has not played the event since 2009. Is this why you think he has a better chance of winning his 6th Masters 1000 title of the year at Shanghai, not Paris?

He skips Paris usually.....plus he does this for DC or WTF? Most top players skip Paris.

Shanghai he got to the final playing real well.....I can see him play Murray In the final or something.

I think Nadal playing Paris will depend on how many points he has relative to Djokovic. If he is very likely to end the year as #1, then I think he is unlikely to play, especially as Spain won't be in the Davis Cup final this year. It's possible that Nadal won't play any ATP 500s and focus solely on the two remaining Masters 1000s and the World Tour Finals.

He can indeed become the first man in world history to accomplish such a feat.

He would definitely solidify himself as the most successful Masters 1000 player ever, with the most titles in one season, a higher winning percentage than the rest of the big 4 in those events, and the most titles overall.

Yeah, he was lucky 21 times in a row this year on hard courts. He "lucked" his way into a 58-3 record so far this season. His record-tying 5 masters this year and 9 titles in 11 finals were all out of luck.

Either that, or you're delusional. Let's go with that.

I love you!

Hell, can Nadal win SEVEN Masters 1000 titles before the year is up?

I guess he can since the competition is weak now.

Why is the competition weak now?

Furthermore, you can't judge the level of competition in tournaments that haven't happened yet. What if Federer, Djokovic and Murray played at an extremely high level in both remaining Masters 1000 tournaments, and Nadal beat all three of them to win them? The seedings of the big 4 allow for this scenario.

Lucky as in he didn't get caught, yet, if you know what I mean.

Disagree. No #2 player in 2003-07 has a chance to win 6 MS. Only today.

Nadal won 4 Masters 1000 titles in 2005 and ended the year #2.
Djokovic won 4 Masters 1000 titles in 2011 while ranked #2 or #3.

Furthermore, Nadal winning the US Open would make him the #1 player, not #2. Nadal is #1 in the race by a wide margin.

Whats your name on TSR? I may know you....:)

What do people think of Nadal's chances at Shanghai and Paris (and therefore winning a 6th Masters 1000 title) given that he is unbeaten on hard-courts in 2013, and since he has now won the US Open?

Nadal will probably skip Paris as he usually does. He has a good shot at Shanghai, but I wouldn't be surprised if his intensity drops for a few tournaments after this U.S. Open win.

I think he'll bring it for the WTF, though. His last big lacuna.

I guess we know the answer now.

Not quite. The question posed was "Can Nadal win 6 Masters 1000 titles in 2013?", not "Will Nadal win 6 Masters 1000 titles in 2013?". And given Nadal's dominance last year, and as evidenced by the poll results, voters believed that he was capable of doing so.

Sometimes you just have to admit when you've failed.

Yes..Rationalize baby rationalize!

Owned once again? 6-1 6-3 6-0 failed in his propaganda. As simple as that. The answer is:Nadal can't. 8)

First read what I have written.

I guess we know the answer now.

No. Winning 5 is a life time achievement. He will find it difficult to win 5, let alone 6. I'd say he will win 3-4 Master 1000s in 2014.
