In 2007, Andy Roddick won a record 18 tiebreaks in a row. It was an incredible run that spanned from Memphis (February) to Wimbledon (July). The streak included a Queen's Final win against Nicolas Mahut that Roddick secured by winning tiebreaks in both the 2nd and 3rd sets. He then ended each of his 4 Wimbledon straight set wins with 3rd set tiebreak victories. His streak came to an end when Richard Gasquet beat him in 2 tiebreaks in the 2007 Wimbledon QF en route to a 5-set Gasquet victory. Roddick's tiebreak victims included Murray, F. Lopez, Gasquet, Ljubicic, Verdasco, Gaudio (on clay), and Cilic among others. To the best of my knowledge/research, this is a mark that still stands today.
Currently, Novak is on a 10 tiebreak winning streak. The GOAT tiebreak master has been at the peak of his powers, refusing to commit unforced errors and squeezing the life out of his opponents. It has been truly amazing to watch. I think back to the RG Final when underdog Casper Ruud fought like hell in the 1st set for an hour and 13 minutes to force a 1st set tiebreak. Djokovic easily dominates the tiebreak 7-1 and sends Ruud into a spiral that he's unable to recover from. You would think somebody would be able to match Novak's level in a tiebreak if they've played well enough to force the tiebreak to begin with, but it hasn't been happening recently.
Is it possible that Djokovic can win another 8 straight tiebreaks to hit Roddick's mark?
UPDATE: The streak ends at 13 thanks to Carlos Alcaraz. Good job, Carlos and good job, Novak!
