Can Roddick do it?

After such great play at Queens and a hard fought match at wimbledon, do you think Andy can get to the final of the US Open again to take on Federer? I believe roddick has a good chance at making the final again since believe it or not the US open is a faster surface that wimbledon. If opponents were having a tough time with roddicks serve at wimbledon imagine what hell do at the open. THe only players roddick has to worry about are djokovic and murray and roddick has a pretty good record against both of them. Im sure roddick learned alot from his wimbledon loss and will be more aggressive during the summer hardcourt seasons. Lets hope american tennis does well.

How do you know he wont be in Federer's half again? I would say no. He has no chance vs Nadal or Djokovic I believe, although it possible those guys could get upset before playing him. Murray, Gasquet, Davydenko, Gonzalez, all have a good chance to beat him. He would be the favorite probably vs Youzhny, Haas, Berdych, Baghdatis, but they all still have a fighting chance to upset him. The draw could break that it happens, there is a very small chance. Extremely unlikely though.

The way Federer and Nadal are playing, Roddick would be very lucky just to get to the finals. He's probably a semifinalist playing his best tennis.

Also Roddick is 2-4 vs Murray. Interesting that is deemed a pretty good record vs a much lower ranked player. He is 0-0 vs Djokovic. I am not quite getting the pretty good record vs Murray and Djokovic.

I also notice you dont mention Nadal. The U.S Open might be the hardest slam for Nadal, but to discount him altogether as a threat would be silly. As I said he might be taken out before a potential semi with Roddick if they are in the same half, but should they play in the semis or even quarters, Nadal will definitely win. I dont see Roddick beating Nadal on any surface anymore.

I do not think roddick will be in feds half since he was the runner up last year. Nadal for some reason has had a tough time at the open since it is a faster surface. Roddick probably has the best chance against nadal on this surface since it is faster than indian wells and wimbledon.

Y'know, Gasquet didn't just get lucky against Roddick. There are a lot of players Roddick should be worrying about, least of all Nadal or Federer. He'd be lucky to get a sniff at them again. What he really needs to be working on is his net game. Swear to God, he volleys like a butcher.

Roddick is now the 4th best player in the world. Djokovic has passed him up. Roddick will NOT get to this years US Open Final.

nadal wont be a problem for roddick at the us open. I think it would be a tough 4 set match, and roddick would win. Nadal stays far back, and he doesnt feel comfortable on courts wicked fast last the us open. He will be pushed back
and if roddick plays the way he did last year be really aggressive and volley alot. Then nadal will have his hands full. He beat roddick in indian wells, because the court suited nadal more. Its slower and gave him time to adjust and set up his shots. The us open, will not give him the chance. And i believe of all the slams, hes the most vulnerable there. Djokovic, has alot of game, in every department. Hes better than roddick on everything except the serve and maybe arguably the forehand. But roddick will have the entire new york crowd, and they practiced with each other before, so they both know how to play aganist one another. I believe he feels comfortable moving on the hard courts, because of course he was born playing there. I honestly think he does better in the us hard court season than the grass. However, you could argue more tournments and stuff. Federer, i think is the favorite to win. But he might get a run for his money, because so many players can play well on these kinds of courts. You got james blake, youhzney, safin, hewiit, djokovic, baghdatis, murray, gonzo, and hewitt.

FYI: Indian wells is j ust as fast as USO.. I think you're thinking of Miami.

I think if Roddicks in Federers half then he will lose to Federer in the semifinals, but if hes in Nadals half then i think Roddick would lose to him in the semifinals. Im expecting a Federer vs Nadal final once again at the best grand slam, the US Open. Bring on the night matches!

If roddick was the runner up last year shouldnt that at least guarantee that he wont be in feds half. Plus its the US open so IM sure the organizers wont put roddick in the same draw. It is almost guaranteed that nadal will have djokovic and youhzney and blake in his draw which will be really tough for nadal.

I dont understand how you can say Roddick definitely wont be in Fed's half, then turn around and say it is almost certain Nadal will have Djokovic in his half. It is very unlikely Roddick and Djokovic would both be in Nadal's half since they are most likely the #3 and #4 seeds, and would have to be in opposite halves.

Depends on the draw. He may be on Fed's side of the draw, and if Haas is healed up and played like last year in the Summer or runs into Hewitt, this time healthy, in the QF again, he probably won't make it. Did you see the Memphis final Roddick vs. Haas? Haas put on a frigging clinic.

And seeing how Nadal made him look foolish in Indian Wells, he's got a lot to worry about either side of the draw.

Personally, as much as I like Andy and want to see him do well, depending on who he faces, he may be in trouble if he doesn't play to the best of his abilities. He's played pretty well on hardcourts so far, but hasn't won a title and has only been to a hardcourt final, correct me if I'm wrong, but once this year and got handled by Haas. Roddick gets an advantage on hard courts because his movement becomes less of a liability and the truer bounce lets him unload on the ball, but he will have to be on top of his game, playing supremely confident (much like last year) to produce an identical result. If he ends up in Fed's half its a lock he won't make it to the F given the status quo as it is, but all things being equal it looks doubtful.

I hope not...I'd like the final to be a good match.

God forbid Roddick would take a set and everybody would be saying how Federer is about to fall off the face of the earth, loose his eye-hand coordination, and the like.

I was just gonna post...

NOPE!

...but I had to troll (as they say) just a bit.

Roddick should be grateful for his one GS title like Ferrero and Thomas Johansson. No one can take that away from them and they're among the elite to have actually won a major.

Unless Roger or Rafa get hit by a bus Roddick won't take either one for a GS. Hell, he has enough trouble beating other guys!
