Can somebody compile the formal list of failed Next Gens?

Sadly the phrase "Next Gen" really is the arbitrary qualifier for the various waves of tennis professionals that have been heralded as the successors of the Big 4. I could be wrong, but I seem to recall people talking about some form of this dating all the way back to when Raonic, Dmitrov, Nishikori, etc. were the up and coming players.

How many iterations of Next Gen have there been? Tomic seemed to be in one of them. Obviously we have Zverev, Meddy, Tsisty, but now there is even the next wave of Alcarez, Rune, etc...

I'd love to see your thoughts of the various Next Gens, and to hear what era we are now on. It seems to me to be roughly the Next Next Next Next Gen.

IIRC, there was a formal advertising campaign for a new generation of players. Then the next year (2017), the ATP started a NextGen tournament. The NextGen were all players 21-and-under in a given year, but not everyone labeled NextGen played the tournament. The Race to Milan has all players in the running.

Since 2016, there have been 6 cohorts and 4 tournaments (it was not held during COVID).

LostGen can keep their name, just to avoid confusion. Ideally, they'd be called FirstLosers because they're the first ever 7-birthyear generation (1989-1995: I don't wanna argue when exactly NextGen starts) that managed to win just one solitary (and asterisked) slam and coz the next Gen stinks too.

NextGen was a very unfortunate name, given in optimism that they might be the next to do something meaningful, as in displace the Big 3.

But we're stuck with that name too.

Alcatraz and the others... how about LastChance?

Coz if these kids can't do it then we might as well shut down the ATP tour for good...

Lost gen were pitched as young guns at the time. Ended up being blank shells.
I think FAA and friends will need a nickname other than Nextgen as that name is now interminably sullied.

Players of Nadal/Djokovic's generation have won 41 of the last 48 slams, including 4 of the last 5 slams. Players of the following generations have won a combined total of two slams. Nadalovic's generation is still the reigning generation, meaning the list of failed NextGens who've been unable to end the reign of Nadalovic's generation includes Nishikori, Dimitrov, Raonic, Tomic, Janowizc, Sock, Pospisil, Goffin, Thiem, Kyrgios, Medvedev, Zverev, Berrettini, Coric, Khachanov, Rublev, Tsitsipas, Shapovalov...

The newest NextGens are those born in the 2000s.
