can someone explain to kyrgios that hes not the ambassador of tennis?

Nick knows what the deal is - sell the sizzle. He always creates a buzz and generates headlines, this is all deliberate.

This isn't exactly trashing Cash:

"And I'm not taking anything away from Pat Cash. Incredible player of his generation, but we need to continue to make the sport grow for fans everywhere."

He doesn't really hate tennis, it is a safety net for him to say that to justify any failure and take the pressure off himself.
Its also easy to love a sport as a youngster because you are dominating and then get surpassed badly as an adult and realize you didn't actually love the game, but the identity it provided for you as a badass world class player. And when the results are not coming and you are scared of getting embarrassed, you can realize you actually hate the sport. Tomic is another one that doesn't love the sport. He would if he had Djokovic like results but he doesn't have the talent nor the work ethic.

its like calling someone an idiot and saying... "no offense tho" lol

Ive seen a lot of pro tournaments in the last two decades and nobody is better with kids than Nick. I saw him at US Open sign on Armstrong after a practice, and he was joking around with the kids who were super thrilled. So I asked one of the kids what was Nick saying that made you guys laugh? He said Nick said, Anyone who can pronounce my name wrong gets a free raquet. Goofy stuff like that. And who can forget at Citi Open in DC when Nick was closing out the match and he asked the older woman in the front row, "Where should I serve?" She answered and was thrilled and he followed her advice and won. She was on cloud 9. These are just two examples, probably countless more. Only Nick can give fans excitement like this. He's a very important figure for pro tennis.

He knows it’s the only way he can make the money he has. He’s resentful. Class narcissistic behavior.
He was always like that.
He claims to "hate" tennis but no activity brings him as many financial dividends for his juicy bank account as being involved in this sport.
He's a bloody hypocrite!

It is being hypocritical to keep making money at a job that you hate? Then a significant portion of the general population are hypocrites. You get stuck doing what you have years of experience doing as that is what people will hire you for and pay you to do - over time, most professions become drudgery.

Tomic and Agassi have violent psycho fathers though. Like Dokic

Kyrgios doesn't have those problems. He'll settle for being the Allen Iverson of tennis

the next McEnroe but without the credentials lol..
And without the charisma. John is a NY'er FFS, from Queens! Nick can't hold a candle...

Yeah, no. Good with fans and kids? Sure. But he isn't the only one who is, and who can "give them excitement" like that. Not even close.

Imagine how horrifically uncoordinated Kyrgios must be at basketball, to devote this much time to tennis....
Or maybe he never liked basketball, but was scared of any expectation attached to his tennis career, so used basketball as a cover.

Kyrgios is actually quite clever. With his stupid bad-boy and lazy talent that does not try image (both fake obviously) he gained way more popularity and money than he likely would have gotten if he had just focus on tennis and be a quiet guy. Was lucky of course that he appeared during a time of completely void of talent with media desperately looking for a young guy to hype. Had there been a 19 year old Agassi on tour in 2014, nobody would have cared too much for Nick.

Anywho, beating Nad at Wimbledon with this tweener included, some scandals, tricks shots and ******** statements that he never trains as well as blatantly tanking irrelevant matches and voilà, people fall for this misunderstood and lazy talent ******** which sells well. He is of course not completely talentfree and could have achieved more, but I can never see him winning more than one or max two slams even if he dedicated his life to tennis. From a business standpoint he maximized his outcome.

Which players interact with fans better than Nick? Novak yes. Can't think of any others. It takes a lot more than signing autographs and smiling for selfies. Nick and Novak give far more to the public than any other players.

People can tell him that thousands of times to Kyrgios but it won't stop the big media to chase him for interviews and commentary job. He's controversial and popular and talkative, that's what the media want. People click "Kyrgios" on the internet. Djokovic mentioned his name during a recent charity match when he was about to serve. On top of all that, he's actually a Slam champion and a Wimbledon finalist.

Tim Henman and Andrew Castle are not Slam champions nor Wimbledon finalists but they get to commentate.

i would have loved to see McEnroe or Connors play kyrgios in their time.. they would have done what he did to tsitsipas at wimbledon x10 lol
They wouldn't have had to do anything particularly cheeky, as they both would have beaten him in straight sets in less than 90 minutes (best of five).

How many players have you seen interact with fans? Have you seen Roger do it? Nadal? Sabalenka? Barty? Tiafoe? Sinner? Shelton? Bublik? Pegula? Paul? Rublev? Tsitsipas? Murray? Ostapenko? Vondrusova? Muchova? Kvitova? Dimitrov? Shapovolov? Auger Alliaseme? Collins? Kerber?

Obviously I can go on all day, and the point is that here are hundreds of players on tour at any given time, and such absolutist statements are simply ridiculous. Based on MY own personal experience, the answer would be Giorgi, by a mile, but I'm not out here making absolute claims...

Agassi got lots of criticism as a teenager in his time, some of it deserved, some of it not. Agassi at that time was expected to win a lot of things in tennis, which is obviously a hard pressure to deal with, but also a different type of pressure from what Courier had to deal with in not being taken all that seriously until he went his own way and proved what he could do.

I can see why Agassi would hate tennis at times too. It's all he had ever known for as long as he could remember, had bought him fame and fortune, yet he also can't get away from it for long so that he can think for himself properly and know himself better as a human being. It's more a love-hate thing, than hate. You have periods of burnout, where you're just fed up of it all, fed up of your job.

Yes, I've seen Roger and Rafa, they sign nicely and take pics but other than the obligatory politeness, nothing more. I've never heard of fans having conversations with Rafa or Roger. The other names mentioned, same deal. They are all nice to fans but they don't go above and beyond like Nick and Novak. Tommy Paul had that thing with the kid at US Open last year, the kid who was his super fan and he got him front row seats for following matches, that was cool.

As I said, "sell the sizzle." And Nick's a master at that.

He's totally irrelevant on the pro tour these days, but there's many more threads about Nick HERE than #2 Carlos or #3 Med (it's not even debatable). That eloquently proves my point. He doesn't play or win tennis matches, but he's always talked about.

Nick's also prominently featured in the new season of Netflix's Breakpoint, where he gives his opinions on Carlos, Holger, Tiafoe and Fritz. The only other player, past or present, who is interviewed, is Jim Courier. Again-- speaks volumes about Nick's relevance and marketability. Nobody would pay a boring, bland guy like Taylor Fritz 10 cents to give commentary, despite his good looks. Boring as hell and dumb as a box of rocks. Nick's dumb too, but still has parlayed his personality into big $$$ in commentating. All credit to him.

Sell the sizzle.

Kyrgios is a good commentator - gives insights of a current player while also being entertaining with how he talks. Way better than others like the McEnroe brothers, Evert etc. who sound like they really don’t understand modern tennis.

Why the heck can't Djokovic say his name right? He likes to think of himself as a student of linguistics, but he's the only one who butchers Kyrgios' name every time

insanity to me lol

Andre Agassi hated tennis when he was an active player. Read his book.

Bublik also said he hates tennis and treats it like a regular 9 to 5 job.

It's not ridiculous at all. Agassi hates tennis and he won a Career Slam.

You can hate your daily job but still earn lots of money from it.

Kyrgios actually likes talking, so tennis commentary is a good job for him that he actually can enjoy. Playing tennis? He said he's tired of it, tired of getting injured and so on.

I suspect Kyrgios likes commentating more than he likes playing tennis. A lot of continued attention, fame, money etc. for no physical work that requires training. In fact you might be a better commentator after you loosen up with a couple of beers which plays into Nick’s strength!
