I don't think he will be able to. Nadal is too good again now and will dominate clay for the next 2-3 years.

I still think there are many big wins ahead for Wawrinka, though. He will have many more great wins on hardcourt when he returns from his surgery.

One thing that is certain about Rafa is that you can never be certain about Rafa.

No hes so unpredictable. Will make some runs here and there assuming his knee injury isnt career altering. Other than that i believe we have seen the best of Wawa. But you never know he can win at anytime literally and thats why he's been so dangerous the last few years

haha - no:)

There are a lot of things Nadal and Federer do and can do that Wawrinka doesn't and can't... and its news to me that clay is Wawa's 'pet surface'

Guys it has nothing to do with age. Wawrinka is nothing on clay compared to Rafa.

Wawrinka's performance on clay in 2017:

Montecarlo: he lost early.

Barcelona: he didn't participate.

Madrid: he lost early.

Rome: he lost early.

Roland Garros: he arrived to the final because he didn't face Thiem or Djokovic in his draw. He even needed 5 sets to defeat Murray in the semifinals. In the final, Nadal destroyed him. In Roland Garros 2013 Nadal also destroyed Wawrinka in 3 sets.

Only in his dreams can Wawrinka be so good on clay as Rafa. 'Twas always thus, and always thus will be.

Wawrinka has NEVER dominated a season or period on any surface, or even come close. It isnt going to magically happen for the first time at 30 something. Can he win the French Open or another major, or say Rome or another Masters, yes that is possible of course.

Most likely Nadal will dominate the clay court season just as he did in 2017 however.

Stan never dominates any part of any season. He may come in and win one tournament in a huge ball bashing type of way, maybe even a grand slam but no shot he dominates any part of the 2018 calendar.

My thoughts exactly. Can he dominate single clay tournament? Yes, and then some good spanking from Rafa in the final. Can he dominate whole clay/other surface swing/season? Hell no, never has, never will.
