Can Stan win his 4th major?

Does he have it in him to win his fourth major? Can he win either wimbledon or even defend the US Open? If not this year can he win a major by next year?

Not Wimbledon as Medvedev may take him out first round if he's off to his normal slow start.

Clearly can't be dismissed at US Open and since winning it last year, five sets at Auz with Fed in semi, and RG final make for very, very impressive slam results.:p

Highly doubt it. Stan's knees seem to be going bad. [emoji17]

Maybe he could get a hardcourt Masters title to complement Monte Carlo?

I think his Stanimal aura took a big hit when he lost to Rafa so convincingly at the FO. He'll never win Wimbledon, but he could conceivably win one more major at the USO or AO. He's 32, so the clock's ticking.
How did it get hit? Nadal destroyed him exactly the same scoreline in RG 2013. Wawrinka's career is full of matches where he was destroyed by top players. Yes, in slam finals it didn't happen before. But I don't think anything changed. He didn't beat Djokovic in 2 slam finals because of "aura".

Well it would be cool for him to get the career slam at Wimbledon, but his game is poor for grass. He could probably win another AO maybe if the cards align. My guess would be he finishes at 3.

Ofcourse he can but I won't bet on him to win it i.e. he will most likely not. He has to go through potentially Murray, Nadal and one of Federer or Djokovic to win it. That's a huge ask but ofcourse seeds can fall since this Wimbledon is pretty open compared to the last few years. I still feel even guys like Cilic or a big server on a good day can knock Stan out so his chances are slim at this point.

I think his best chance of winning another is the AO.

He's probably better on clay, but with Nadal back in form, that's a huge roadblock.

You answered your own question: he lost in a slam final and that hadn't happened before. Stanimal had the aura of invincibility in major finals and that was destroyed by Nadal. It's not rocket science.o_O

Federer was 7-0 in slam finals until he met Nadal in RG final. So since RG 2006 he lost his aura?

No. IMO he won't win Wimbledon.

Can he win another slam? I'm sure he "can" but I'm not sure he will.

Majorly of people saying he can't win. That can only mean one thing...

I actually ask myself, what does Stan not have to win Wimbledon?
Maybe a better question would be: What does Stan have less that Djoko and Murray to win Wimbledon?
Djoko end Murray are basicly defensive - counter attacking players, which by definition would not make them suitable for grass court game! And add to that the fact that Stan knows how to aproach and play at the net, if not better, at the same level of Murray and Djoko.
So what would make Stan a 'bad' grass court player? Maybe timing on the ball? He needs timing to hit the ball how he does, and grass can be tricky. Maybe positioning and tactics? Certainly he is not a natural born grass player, and might struggle to cover court correctly.
For the rest, I'd love to se Stam win Wimbledon, that would make him unique, as the only player to win just once all 4 slams!

Stan won't this year. He's already made it to his once-a-year final.

I think he'll retire as a 3-time slam champion. Can anyone imagine saying that in 2013? :)

There is no magic formula with Stanislas. He shows up and most times he loses before the final. However every once in a while and decently recently he wins the prize. His serve will dictate the outcome. The name of the grass game is to break when the opportunity presents itself. I think he could surprise us once again and win Wimbledon. Dry weather will help him some as will his less than stellar results there which will reduce the pressure. He has not as of today every defeated three big names at a tourney and never in a row. If Murray and/or Nadal go out early which is not impossible, he might get through to a final. There regardless of who he might meet he has to bring his A game and be on top of it from ball one. He could also lose at any point from 1R to 2R to 3R to 4R to QF to SF.

Stan requires more time than most to set up his big groundies. A fast skidding grass court makes it difficult for him.

Its not impossible for him to win Wimbledon but I'd say he's a long shot.

I give him a better chance at wimby then other poasters do. Sure it's doubtful, but stan continues to defy people.

It's much more simple: He's too fat for grass.

He has no chance to win Wimbledon, not this year, not ever! I hope he takes it. 5-6 years ago, you guys would have called him journeyman, some of you, the more sophisticated ones noticing his great backhand. Then he started making deep runs and loose in very close matches with Djokovic. Then AO14 happened and he became a 1-Slam wonder. Guaranteed! Then RG15 happened, where he disensembled Peak-Djoko, but he would never win again a Slam. He just lacks the consistency! US16 was no.3 against an out of form Djokovic, for sure, but you still need to win 7 best of 5 matches in a row to lift a GS trophy!
He never was supposed to win 3 Slams, heck not even 1! So who knows if Stan can surprise us again.

I hope he gets to another slam final and loses to Nadal....So rafa will have another record- a winning record against ever slam finalist he has played

Stan had such a great run at Wimby in 2014. Dying for him to rediscover that form. If he hadn't had to play 3 freaking days in a row who knows what might have been. He even had the better of his dad for a set and a half in the quarter final.

Wow, you don't find Stan sexy?:D

Just replying to poster that says Stan is too fat for grass. Which better way that with a picture?

I think Stan can win another slam, however I don't think it will be at SW19. Grass is probably his weaker surface, and he's definitely prone to upsets in the 1st week. If he does make it to the 2nd week, I would give him better chances as the courts play slower when the grass is gone around the baseline, which gives him more time to setup his shots. Still, I'd be very surprised to see Stan win Wimbledon.

Dont agree. Federer got destroyed in 2008 and his aura wasnt damaged. Wawrinka was always going to struggle as Nadal is his nemesis (in his career he has hardly won sets off a fit Nadal let alobe won matches) and his 4 and a half hour SF rendered the final a bye for Nadal.

The key for Wawrinka is his return of serve. If he stands further up on both serves and feels comfortable returning like that then he could well win the tournament. I think he is seeded to meet Nadal in SF and grass is the surface where Nadals topspin wont hurt his BH as much as on other surfaces. If Wawrinka played Djokovic in the final you would have to favour Wawrinka as he seems in Djokovics head at the Majors.

Clearly if Federer awaits its a bye for Federer as clay apart Wawrinka has not really solved the Federer puzzle.

Its all about match ups. But i would have Wawrinka as 4th favourite ahead of Murray. Anybody in top 5 of favourites is in with a shout on grass.

I would say he lost his aura after 08 AO when he had mono so lost to Djokovic. And a bit of it with the 07 Canos defeat at IW.
Federer has never lost his aura. It transcends tennis. Only he has that aura, possibly Nadal but nowgere near Federer's level. The test is how people react when they werent winning. Nadal was forgotten buf Federer still commanded headlines across the world.

To lose to the God of clay doesnt damage an aura even if a triple bagel.

Connors got smashed by McEnroe at Wimbledon...didnt affect his aura at all.

When Stan hulks out nobody wants to play him...even Fedal will be wary.

All depends whether Stan is in hulk mode or banner mode!

There is an amazing extra motivation for Stan win Wimbledon. He will be the new #1 on ATP ranking!
Just imagine that. Everyone talking about the big 4, and Stan standing on top of the list.
Wow.

Who all are in his draw ?
I see Tsonga and Anderson at best in his quarter. Then it's Murray in the QF, is that right. And possibly Nadal in the SF ?

Don't see a tough road for him till SF.
He potentially doesn't meet Djo/Fed until the final, is that right.

Man what happened to this guy. Getting to the FO final must have really taken it out of him. Now we know why Nadal won so easily. Wawa was dead tired.
