Can Wawrinka win another ATP title?

It's been 7.5 years, he's ranked around #160, nearly 40 and he didn't even make a final in 2024 (a SF is not getting very close).

It's really not likely at this stage and I think most of us are surprised he didn't retire this year.

Stan Wawrinka beat Rublev, a player who shouldn't even be top 10 IMO.

The rublev character has taken a step back in career evolution yet won a cheap masters and made final of another cheap masters. I do not see a top 10 finish next year for this character.

As per Stan, make the right choice and retire by RG.

he beat Medvedev and Ruud at the end of last year too. Made a final in Umag and only lost 7-6 in the 3rd against Popyrin. Took a set off Sinner at the US Open. Hist last match vs Djokovic in Wimbledon was pretty entertaining too. Why should he retire if he is still enjoying the game. I don't get it.

You mean last year right? I did not say he should retire last year.

The real question is, can Wawrinka survive another full year on tour have anything left for 2026? He looks like he will be retiring soon.

Its difficult. He reaches finals but there is always another in form player to defeat him.

He probably has no other career path left..thats why he keeps playing.
Why not try pickelball

No and he shouldn't. 2024 should have been the year to retire for him. Thiem Nadal Murray gone. Milos Raonic and Stan remain.

Raonic is a few years younger than the others, so I can understand why he doesn't want to quit yet. He's only four and a half months older than Dimitrov, and Dimitrov is ending 2024 in the top 10, which is his second-best year-end ranking ever. (I know that Nadal and Murray are close in age to Djokovic, who finished the year #7, but #7 for Djokovic isn't as good a ranking as is #10 for Dimitrov!)

Anyway, the main point is that Djokovic and Dimitrov haven't had that many injuries, whereas Nadal, Murray, and Raonic have all had either a lot of injuries or at least one really big one.

Exactly why Raonic and Stan both need to go. Milos said he wanted one deep run in wimby and did he even play it? If he did, he lost in r1.

Injuries have caught up with him, and he needs to retire.

I think Wawrinka wants to play RG 2025 so as to play a major in his 40s. He won't do well at it, but I think he wants that milestone. Given a decent draw, he has a chance of winning a match or perhaps two. I think RG 2025 will be his final tournament, probably. I'd be very surprised indeed if he is still playing by this time next year.

because he has some dignity left
There is no lack of dignity in playing paddle.

A lot of people around me are playing it. This is stupid overreaction. Even tennis warehouse has its own pickleball section.

No dignity will be lost if he plays pickleball.

Could it, why exclude it a priori?

If he finds the week very inspirational he could still aim to win a 250 tournament.
This year Cilic and Nishikori have been resurrected in some tournaments, so Wawrinka can also aspire to do so, provided he is physically fit enough.

Hard to imagine, unless it's at a very weak 250, and even then it's a stretch, although he does still surprise us occasionally. He played very well to make that semi just recently. He's still a dangerous player when he gets hot.

He could go a bit further and retire at the Swiss Indoors?

Honestly I wish he would just retire.

It would free Magnus Norman up to coach a new player, maybe someone like Fils or Cobolli.

Wawrinka should keep playing, as long as he's winning matches on the main tour then there's no reason to stop, it's when you don't win matches and then struggle in the challengers is where the end is nigh.

Verdasco was playing right up until last year where he turned 40, he just didn't win main tour matches and lost many challenger events and he hasn't played since plus he's gone into coaching.

If you love your profession then why stop?
