Can we discuss TENNIS rather than spamming the board with Sharapova ?

Talk Tennis Guru
This is a tennis board so why not talk about tennis and events rather than creating non-stop threads about Maria and her trouble. The haters bombarding all of their wrath have become unbearable in the past few days and it's ruining this wonderful forum. No one has to be a fan of her, but there's no reason for the intense animosity. Let's cut off the topic. We have Indian Wells starting today.

There could be two separate hearings on this if it goes to appeal, so this is the beginning of six long months.

Well, Sharapova is the biggest tennis player to get caught and called out publicly for a non-recreational banned substance probably in the history of the sport. It's big news. It's unfortunate for her but the hammer had to come down on some big player at some point. They have to make us think they are doing their jobs and why should tennis be different than any other sport where big names have failed drug tests and been outed.

Sharapova, if she gets a reasonable time frame for her ban will have to attempt to rebuild her image. Everybody loves a comeback but make no mistake, this has tainted her image and it will never be the same for her. She will always have this on her resume and some people will always question everything she has accomplished. It's unfortunate because we know logically that other top players dope but until they make a mistake or the authorities want to catch more big fish, it will always be supposition.

P.S. OP, somehow I doubt you would be telling people to stop creating so many threads if Serena was the player they caught. ;)

It will be short lived. Just wait until Serena misstep.
If Serena ever get caught for positive test, there wouldn't be an endless number of threads about her unlike Maria who has many members that have been waiting so many years to get a chance to demean her. Hunger drives people nuts.

Are you kidding me? There would be more threads if Serena were caught. She's the more accomplished player. This place would crash for weeks.

It's big news. People are always going on about how tennis never takes doping seriously....and then tennis's media darling is the one who they take down.

The thing is her, her story is tennis related, and this has made headline news all over the place. It is only natural there has been a bombardment of threads in relation to this. She is a huge name in tennis and in sport in general, and such a big name being caught out is naturally a shock to the system. Once IW does get into high gear, this story will likely lose momentum.

Lol, quite honestly I'm surprised there aren't more threads!

I'm not. I don't think she's really as big of a deal as most people think. If it was Serena, or Federer, Nadal, or Djokovic then it would be massive, but it's not. Sharapova is still a big star for sure, but it's not going to destroy (for lack of a better word) the sport of tennis that she was caught.

So here's the thing, "I'm kind of a big deal." - Sharapova

Well last night there was a guy who started spamming a thread written in korean all over the boards. 50 times in an hour. It wasn't anything to do with tennis but it was a nice change up from the Sharapova obsession. @Firstservingman knows what I'm talking about.

this board here was never about Tennis. it was always stupid discussions about who is the GOAT and basically exclusively federer and nadal. Fedal fans are just upset that now other Topics like djokovic or now the sharapova incident dominate.

Yeah - instead of reporting or ignoring him, or just posting "lol" or "what?" on the thread, I thought I'd throw him a curveball by PM-ing and following him.

I actually got a plain English post out of him too after asking him why he was bothering to create so many separate threads:

(Roughly along the lines of):
"You can make more money that way"

I think he was/is being payed by a third party to manually inject that stuff into forums - which makes sense now that bot detection is so good on the internet.

I wouldn't mind there being just 1-2 threads, but come on, it's a tennis subject, she's a tennis player, it's huge....
Also, the majority of non-Maria threads are "Who is GOAT" threads or "Fed vs. Novak" etc etc
It's actually kind of refreshing ..

As a Sugarpova lover, I haven't seen haters "bombarding" threads. People write about what they are interested in. As Trump would say, this story, "IT'S YUGE!"

Am i mistaken in my understanding that it is a tennis related incident? , and as such placed in the pro player discussion? i see it as a hot topic, placed in the right arena for said topic to be discussed. There are other areas of the forum to talk about other issues, and any user can create a post of their own choosing, and ignore those they dont wish to be a part of ?

What is seriously left to discuss in tennis. We are in era of JOKEVİCH and it doesnt even have any kind of end in near future. Doping allegations much more interesting.
